I almost never write reviews. I've been in retail and customer service and I know how hard it can be to deal with people. If I don't love a service I usually just choke it up to a bad day and move on ... but my experience at this dry bar was awful. I have curly hair which I almost always wear straight and when I got to the salon I had my hair in a bun and it must have been knotty. (as most curly hair goes- also i love scarves). The stylist asked me if I wanted a wash and walked me to the sink. She started brushing my hair, and by brushing I mean forcefully yanking the knots out. I almost left but was stunned by the shock of the pain. Now I've had my hair blow dryed, colored, highlighted, professionally straighten before and I've never been sensitive nor have I ever felt this aggressively hurt. The blowdry itself was average. I wanted it sleek and straight and it really wasn't. The ends looked a bit unfinished. I would have just brushed that off, (pun intended) had it not be for the hair ripping. It's been over a day later now, my scalp still hurts where she was "untangling" it, I can barely touch it and can only imagine how much of my natural hair she ripped out. I paid $50 for an average blowdry and to have my hair permanently damaged and my scalp hurt so bad I can't wrap my hair in a bun there. AWFUL!!!!! read more

This location is a joke. I booked a 7:30 am appointment (mind you the location *says* it opens at 7am), arrived on time only to find a group of about 10 women AND all the stylists waiting outside because the manager had yet to show up to open. I waited until 8 and the place still hadn't opened. If you plan on opening late why allow appointments to be booked for first thing in the morning?? Bad management and I feel bad for the stylists because they looked equally miffed and tried to be as nice as possible when explaining the situation to all the pissed off ladies. Had to make an appointment elsewhere so I wouldn't be late to my meeting. Officially lost my faith in Drybar. read more

Be very careful buying products from here. The quality is not what you would expect from an expensive hairdryer. I used a hairdryer less than 10 times and it is now useless. The product also has a very restrictive warranty policy which renders it useless and is something you would not have looked at before purchasing. read more

By far the worst dry bar experience after have been to multiple locations. Got washed and my hair air dried before the stylist even came over to do my hair. There is no receptionist at this location which is why I waited in my chair for 20 minutes as he doubled as the receptionist after he knew I was in a hurry. After my hair was done he told me to meet him upfront. I then had to get on a 6 people deep line just to check out. After paying I asked where my coat was and rudely was pointed in the direction. Most importantly - I left hating my hair and went home and redid it myself. read more

This is my fourth time going to different Dry Bars. I had my best blow out there 5 years ago (Upper East Side) with mimosas and it was wonderful, but the other times have been mediocre and/or bad customer service. I went to the Dry Bar in Hell's Kitchen location and as soon as I walked in I asked to use the restroom. I had to walk through people styling in order to go to the restroom. As soon as I walked in, someone was knocking on the door. I said , "Occupied" 5 times, but the employee goes and opens the door with a key anyways exposing me on to everyone there. And leaves the door unlocked. I was mortified. Two seconds later, another employee is knocking on the door. I was in there less than 3 minutes! I waited for stylist who was a male, he was indifferent. I see everyone talking to their client and asking how many shampoos they wanted etc... I have extremely oily hair, and he gave me a quick shampoo and conditioner- That was the quickest wash I had ever had. In addition, he blew out my hair super fast. It felt rushed. My hair looked okay. The experience was not pleasant and the only thing I enjoyed was the complimentary champagne. Never going to another Dry Bar. It seems like you have to look a certain way to get treated well here. I work with clients too, and I personally treat everyone the same because you never know who you may meet.... read more

I walked from the Port Authority Bus terminal 6 months pregnant super excited for my appointment. I was 9 mins late and was told I couldn't be seen. First time at drybar and never coming back. I was hoping the reviews weren't true but find it hard to believe my stylist was occupied in 9 mins. I had an event at 6:30 and had to scramble to get seen at another hair salon. read more

So I'm here for my 7:30am appt.and it's 7:40 and when I asked they said another 10 or 15 minutes so basically my 7:30 appt is going to be closer to 8am. I come to nyc from nj for work so I got on a 6:30 bus to make this appt. I'm not happy that now Im sitting here for a half hour and will be late for work. I've had similar experiences at their midtown East location so I think I have to give up on Drybar! I am extremely disappointed with this Drybar location and the Drybar business as a whole that I will never return to another Drybar. I had an appointment on October 13th to have a blowout before beginning my birthday activities. Upon my arrival at 8:45 for my scheduled appointment, the Drybar was closed. When I called a corporate number, they said it would be opening shortly. He then called back and said the manager was "running late" and it would not open until 11. That is more than running late! I then had to pay to take a cab to another location and rush through my session and then missed my train. The representative on the phone had said that someone would reach out to me but no one did. I then emailed and received an email back from customer service saying that they never promised me a free blowout. Well excuse me for assuming that Drybar would have any kind of decency and respect for my time and money to somehow compensate me for this egregious incident. The representative wanted me to give her some time to call her so we could discuss it. I was so disgusted at the thought of having to give even more of my time for what was a clean cut issue. I had an appointment. You weren't open. Done. I was then offered $20 off my next blowout which barely covers the cost of my cab to the second location I had to travel to. I will NEVER again go to ANY Drybar. This situation was a "no-brainer" and their blowouts are mediocre at best to begin with and their champagne may be free but there's a reason. This is not the level of customer service that I expect nor the customer service I receive for companies I am loyal with. I am completely disgusted at the level of treatment I received and the fact that the burden of proof was put on me rather than simply correcting a clean-cut error that was made. This is not a company you want to give your business to- there are plenty of places in the city that will fight for your business and loyalty but this is not one. read more

The HK location is so poorly managed, I just can't do it anymore. On multiple occasions, I have booked a blowout for first thing in the morning, and have had to wait for stylists to arrive (up to 30 minutes late). The other day I walked by at 7:20 (this location opens at 7:00), and there was a line of women waiting for someone to show up and open the store. Very unprofessional! While they do good work once you're in the chair, the uncertainty of whether or not you'll make it to work on time, isn't worth the stress. read more

I've been looking forward to getting this blowout and saved my giftcard to go for the perfect day for SO long--only to have the absolute worst experience. First, I went in and asked if it was at all possible to be seen at 6:45 because that was the absolute latest I could go--any later and I would be late for a surprise birthday party. The receptionist kindly said yes. However, when I arrived at 6:45, I was asked to sit and wait for almost 15 minutes--who knows how long it would have been if I hadn't asked. It wasn't until I finally got up and asked how much longer it would be, and that I would leave if I couldn't be seated right away, that I was finally seated. Then the woman proceeded to yank and pull my hair such that my head was pulled literally 5 inches to each side with each brush. She stated that the stylists "have to eat and take breaks" and sometimes work the whole day, as if my insistence on keeping my appointment time made that my fault. I said I had no problem with them eating and taking breaks; they just shouldn't take any appointments for that time, then. (I would have gone home and done my hair myself.) She only replied she was "making an exception" for me. Then, out of the blue while drying my hair, she rushed so much that she BURNED MY SCALP. I cried out in pain and she asked what happened, and I said my scalp had been burned. She proceeded to say that it hadn't been, and that she knows when it has been. (My scalp was still stinging at this point.) When I insisted that it had been, she bizarrely kept on repeating, "Mishaps happen. It's rare, but sometimes they happen. Mishaps happen." Finally, as I was leaving, she told me she had to tell a manager about what had happened "in case you decide to report me," giving me a wry glance as if this was our inside joke. So here I am, "reporting" my experience. (Oh, and the "bubbly" everyone talks about was never offered to me--no idea why.) read more

I would leave zero stars if possible, this place is a nightmare. My appointment was at 7:15 AM it is now 7:52 and have yet to even be washed. I walked in and no one even greeted me or even told me there would be a wait. It wasn't until I realized the women also waiting had 7 AM appointments that I realized how pathetic of a business this was. I have an event at 9 AM and will be heading there with a messy bun because of this sad excuse for a business. DO NOT make morning appointments if you can not keep them, no one makes a 7 AM hair appointment with nothing to do afterwards. Please respect people's time. I will never be returning read more

No one has showed up yet 2+hours after they are supposed to open their doors! All clients scheduled for the morning so far have no way to get in and get a blow out. And the stylists are stuck waiting for someone to show up so they can do their jobs. And evidently this isn't the first time the one "manager" with keys hasn't shown up or returned phone calls . Seems to me the stylists are more responsible and should be the one with keys not the manager! The corporate number wasn't even aware of the situation when I called. Always have to wait 30-60 min after my appointment time to get service at this location - which is a problem when most people come here with very limited time for a specific time slot. I've had very nice blowouts here but the location needs to manage customers' time better. read more

I tried this location out while visiting the city with a friend this past weekend. Everyone there was super friendly!! My stylist was Nicole, she was very sweet and gave an amazing scalp massage during the shampoo! We had talked about styles for my hair. I had really wanted to go with the beach curls but wasn't sure how my hair would do the next day after being slept on, she talked to me a little about the different styles and we landed on the Manhattan style blowout. I have very thick hair that can be difficult to style but Nicole was able to get it very straight with just the brush and the blow dryer, I was amazed that it looked so great without needing to be touched with the flat iron at all. I loved that they offer you drinks while you are getting styled. It was wonderful to sit and sip champagne while being pampered. I did end up buying a few products after the service. I loved the smell of the shine spray Nicole finished my hair with and I also picked up a full size bottle of the heat protectant cream. I was so pleased with how my hair came out and will visit again for sure next time I am in the city! read more

Inexplicably, no product was used in my blowout, then stylist was surprised when I came back **literally** 5 minutes after leaving on a humid day to say my hair had frizzed up and it needed more work. Some product was added and some more work was done, but it was never great. In fact, it wasn't even good. Added ton of gel when I got home, which of course waved the blowout up a bit, but that was much better than the flyaway frizz mess I paid for. Plus tip. Total waste of time and money. Aren't these folks supposed to be the experts? No plans to return to this, or any, DryBar anytime soon. read more

Run down and a just weird experience. I needed my hair blown out quickly a couple weeks ago. I was on W 60th and needed to be in Hell's Kitchen so I pulled up my drybar app and saw that the Hell's Kitchen location had appointment availability every 15 minutes all afternoon. So I decide to go there for a walk in. So I take a 10 minute cab ride to this location and when I walk in there is not a single person there. It's about 12pm on a weekday which I find odd. Then the receptionist comes out from the back and says that they have no appointments till 2:30, which again is odd because no one is having their hair done and all of the workers are just sitting in the back. This to me is even more strange considering I just looked at the app that said they had appointments available all afternoon. I ask the receptionist about this and she just rudely dismisses that claim and books me for 2:30. I come back at 2:30 and notice this location is kind of run down. The shampoo station chairs are ripped and completely stained blue/black. My blow out was good but the employees kept getting in little arguments with each other and seemed annoyed which made a weird experience even worse. I normally get my hair done at the W 71st or the W59th location and I definitely will not go back to this location. read more

I don't usually write reviews but my experience so horrible that I felt compelled to write. First of all, the girl that washed by hair was so lazy and she barely used any shampoo to wash my hair. It felt like she only used water. My hair afterwards was really flat and didn't look like a salon fresh do. The front and back of my hair looked terrible. I had to go home and curl it myself because the curls didn't even last for 2 hours. You're better off going to a salon close by with 4/5 stars. Not here. Waste of money. I wish I could get a refund. The customer service here is god awful. I don't know how this place stays in business. Plus, the products that they use smell disgusting. I had to wash my hair the next day. read more

Okay, first timer here, and yes I'm a guy. Not in my 50s like Yelp thinks though. Damn! Here's my situation. I want to grow my hair out. Not to long, middle of my back length, but maybe shoulder length. The problem is I have kept my hair short for a very long time (again, not 50 years!) and when it gets to a certain length, it takes over. The front looks like the high seas during a storm and the back looks like limp spaghetti. I would be cool with either if they didn't carry out a game of mortal combat on my head. Neither wins and the outcome is a disaster. So, I was grabbing a beverage from my favorite bar and this woman with nice hair was sitting at the bar by the designated place to order drinks. The bartender was busy and I told her that her hair looked great (not hitting on her). she said thanks and told me she worked for this company called drybar in the corporate office. I said do they dare help men in crisis in need of being taught how to manage longer hair. She said absolutely. I told her there was one on my walk to work and I wold try it out. So that's the back story. Now the front story (whatever it's called). I went to drybar on 42nd Street and set an appointment for the next day. I asked the appointment taker if guys came in and she said a few. Hmm, I think I should have squashed it right then. But, I am a guy and I didn't. We aren't known for our intuition. My appointment was set for 11:15am. I arrived early at 10:45am, because I hate being late to anything. It's rude and disrespectful of the time of those you are meeting. I told reception I was there around 11am. Yes, I sat in the waiting area for 15 minutes contemplating my following through with this, and to not look like a crazy person getting to a place a half hour early (this is NYC, you know). The reception was warm and she said someone would be with me in a few minutes. I said great and sat back down waiting to be seen at 1:15ish (five minutes early or late). To me, it sounded like she was telling me I would be one of the next people. That was fine. They were busy and there were three of us waiting. My two fellow patrons (patronettes?) went first. Cool. Then a stylist finished and came up to the reception area, but remained behind the counter, glancing toward me and another couple of women who had just walked in. Rewind forty-five seconds, the two women I mentioned that just came in apparently had no appointment prior to arriving. Reception told them they would have a small wait. Maybe they were part of the membership club I read about in the marketing they had laying around, I don't know. Okay, now back tot he stylist coming up to reception. He had a look of terror in his eyes as he looked at me. I was taken aback. I mean, I filed down my horns, put on make-up to hide the dark red color of my skin, and tucked my tail firmly into my unoffensively fitting jeans before I came in. What is he seeing? Oh, is it because I am a man? Maybe. A dude doing another dudes hair, I mean where does that happen? Was it my skin tone? Was it my yelp! alleged 50 year old look (never forgive you yelp!)? Or did this sylist have a more personal and deviant reason? Did he only want to touch the beautiful long hair of a fair maiden and the thought of touching the stormy waves followed by spaghetti on a dude's head was just too, um, gay? Is that even professional to turn someone down for a non-sexual service based on gender? I mean, is that still a thing? I don't know. Maybe he was waiting on a client. I have to give the benefit of the doubt, right? Assumptions are bad. Benefit of the doubt, good. Okay, so I sat there. the two women who walked in without an appointment are called, right after they sucked down their yogurt parfaits, that looked delicious - though eating them in a hair salon - not so delicious. Around 11:24am, I get up and tell the receptionist that I have to be somewhere at noon and almost with a sense of relief, let's me out of my appointment without any hesitation that a stylist is ready to take me now. They weren't. I knew it. She knew it. And my fellow patronettes knew it. I didn't have to be somewhere at noon. I just didn't want the awkwardness between me and the drybar staff to continue. So, that's my story. I hope it helps someone, especially a man who is suffering from short hair rebellion - and if you have horns, a tail, and odd colored skin, apparently like me, prepare yourself for the public eye better than I did. I've been coming to this location since last year and I am a member. The stylists are not consistent and my hair has been a hit or miss. Every time I would get a good stylist/blow out I would give them a chance but then I would get a terrible blowout and not go back for weeks so I racked up blowouts on my membership and just went for the hell of it since it's up the block from work. I visited the Las Vegas location last week and was extremely unhappy with my blowout AGAIN. I'm beginning to think the stylists DryBar hires are not experienced enough. My hair is thick and wavy and not that complicated unless my roots are left damp which it is ALL the time by DryBar stylists except a couple of times. I am no longer going to continue my membership next month and try out DreamDry. And the receptionist at this location is never there!!!! I am always waiting about 5-10 minutes to checkout. I never leave reviews but this location was the worst Drybar I have ever been to (and I have been to several). My appointment was scheduled for 9am. At 9:15am, there were over 6 customers waiting and only one stylist who had shown up (also late but not as late as the others). I asked the front desk woman when I would be starting because I had a train I needed to make by 10:45 and she replied with an attitude and said, "honestly, all the stylists are going to be late. Maybe you should find another salon". My stylist showed up over 25 minutes late, was nice but did not apologize once, blamed the trains and could not do the style I had wanted in time. The braided style I received was not good- the part was a mess, there were hairs sticking out everywhere and it looked nothing like the photo I picked from their booklet. I ended up taking my hair out and having a friend redo it at my own event. They took no accountability for how many mistakes were being made. Would not recommend this location. read more

I used to love going to drybar but find that service has deteriorated dramatically over the last few years. I always find myself coming home to redo my hair. They especially seem challenged to do curly and frizzy hair. There seems to be a general level of apathy among staff across all locations- I went to midtown east recently too and couldn't wait to just be done and get out. read more

Normally, I love Drybar. This was my first time at this location on 1/12/17 (for my birthday). The salon was fine, the staff super friendly as always, but my stylist had a hard time with my hair. Which has never happened to me before... I asked for the Cosmo style and the appointment took about 75 minutes start to finish; the stylist struggled with drying and curling my hair, getting the brush twisted and tangled on more than one occasion. Unfortunately, the remedy was to add more product. When I left the salon, my hair looked GREAT. After walking 10 blocks to work, the curls had fallen, but my hair still looked "polished". After two hours, my hair looked like I had rolled out of bed and never gone to Drybar. I also had globs of product throughout my hair, including front and center that I had to pick/rinse out. I've been to other Drybar locations since, with other stylists, and understand this was a one-time bad result. What's most disappointing to me, aside from having to re-do my hair for my birthday celebration, is that I notified Drybar of my experience and no one has even acknowledged my feedback. I've even followed up with no reply, too. That's just poor customer service - it's been 2 weeks. read more

I have always heard great things from other Drybar customers and was so excited to see this location open just a block away from my job. I went in and was taken care of super quick; my stylist was nice and polite and all started well. Things soon went downhill when I was offered their signature champagne and it was literally hot. Like just brought up from a box in the basement hot, not cool. My stylist then started giving me a regular blow out but when we were done my hair looked frizzy and not at all nicely blown out. The worst was the feeling when I touched my hair; it felt dry and brittle like they didn't even moisturize it one bit during the wash or after. I ended up putting it up in a ponytail shortly after. I was so so disappointed! I was really looking forward to having a Drybar so close to work were I could just get my hair done during lunch. I was given a gift card this past Christmas to use but now I feel so skeptical about Drybar that I might just let it go to waste... read more
