This place is so cute and a great place to go to get things done! This was our first time here and we went during the late afternoon and stayed for about 2 hours on a Sunday. It wasn't busy so we were able to get really nice seating. We went the safe route with the drinks and were happy with the choices made :) I don't remember the exact names of the drinks but we got the Matcha Uji (?) and the Yakult drink with boba. Cheese...tea...? I had never heard of this phenomenon before passing by in an attempt to walk off my Gyu-kaku food baby. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and they patiently answered all our questions. They even said we could try the cheese before adding it to our drinks to make sure we liked it. I opted for what they said was the most popular, the brown sugar milk tea with cheese. Your drink is delivered in a very peculiar cup, with a classic boba straw hole, then a red stopper covering a second drinking hole. V complicated to explain. But it delivers two different drinking experiences, one of your actual drink, and the second with the cheese and drink together. This probably makes no sense, so you just have to try it! This is a great little cafe! The cat decor is adorable and the ambiance is very comfortable. My best friend and I love coming here to get milk tea and chill out for a bit. Their cheese cap for the drinks is the best! It's like a salty and sweet cream cheese foam that brings a welcome complexity to any drink. My favorites are the messy strawberry and uji matcha with Oreo and cheese. I like their plant milk tea too because it's reminiscent of a classier McFlurry (they blend it). I went here for the first time today and it was pretty good. The cheese cap on top tasted like cheesecake and the matcha drink part was really good as well. Once I mixed everything together including the Oreo bits on top, it tasted even better. Just average, and certainly not affordable for a regular treat. A friend of mine knowledgeable of trendy Asian foods and desserts alerted me to the grand opening of this Kapiolani mini-cafe and told me that the concept of Cheese Tea is a huge hit overseas in Asia, despite its initial gross-sounding name concept. I was so excited to try this Asia trend and hoped for a really authentic version - I was mostly disappointed. Overall tea product: 3/5 overpriced and not all teas are impressively yummy. Last time I ordered a jasmine green tea with cheese cap (4/5) and my boyfriend ordered a strawberry messy milk with cheese cap (4/5); this time I ordered a watermelon messy milk with cheese cap (5/5).... ridiculously, 2 of the messy milks with cheese cap add-ons literally comes to over $15. Who has money to regularly spend almost $8 on a tiny 12-oz drink? The "cheese cap" has the texture of a slightly salty, congealed whipped buttercream and was only OK, not life-changing. I was turned off by one of the cash register girls on September 15 when I browsed the menu, saw that there was jasmine green tea and also milk teas but not my favorite combination, a jasmine green milk tea. So I asked her if she could make me a jasmine green milk tea with a cheese cap, and she looked at me sternly and said "WE DON'T DO THAT, I have never even heard of milk being mixed with jasmine tea and it won't taste good". I literally was shocked that she had no customer service ability, was unknowledgeable of common Asian dessert tea combinations, AND was literally judging my order: and so asked her "Do you have milk?" (she said yes) then I asked "Do you have jasmine green tea?" (she said yes) and I said "Mix the two until it looks milky and opaque instead of amber colored and add a cheese cap on it then." Lol.......... FYI, Jasmine green milk tea is one of the most common boba or bubble tea cafe orders, is a standard at other successful Honolulu boba cafes like Teapresso, Mr Tea, or Taste Tea, and is one of my personal faves... so it's pretty incredulous to me that someone working at a Cheese Tea cafe purporting to purvey Asian concept teas wouldn't know about it or would make a judgment that it wouldn't taste good. Ambiance: 5/5 clean (because it's basically brand new) and decorated to satisfy a high-school-chic appetite. I can imagine this place being really LOUD when it's full of young crowds hanging out, but at an off time (like Sunday afternoon, apparently) it was a nice place to just chat with one other person. Overall: 3.5/5 --- the watermelon messy milk was really a hit with me today (but expensive, at almost $8 w tax), and the local boy cashiers were nicer and more knowledgeable and proactive about answering my boyfriend's questions today, so I'll give 1/2star more than I usually would. This is not a place I would return to regularly - I will stick to my favorites Mr. Tea (with less sugar) and Teapresso for bubble tea and to Thang's french coffee & tea locations for real fruit slushes. read more

First time here. Nice clean store and friendly, helpful staff. We ordered the O.B.C milk tea drink and it was delicious. O.B.C has oreos, bobba, and cheese in Hong Kong style milk tea. There is sugar around the sides of the cup. You have to mix it when you get it. I really liked the cheese topping. The cheese topping taste like a less tangy cream cheese with a little salt. I do wish the portion is bigger. The cup size is quite small compared to other drink places we've gone to. Parking is a bit of a pain. First 10 mins is free then you have validation for 20 mins then .50 every 20 mins after. Will definitely be back. read more

Visited the shop twice...it was okay. What got my attention was the cheese foam. It tasted quite good but i prefer my milk tea with just boba so i dont think id get the cheese again but i have no complaints about it. I tried the brown sugar milk tea, purple romance (taro), and brown sugar uji matcha + cheese cap. I didnt like the purple romance; tasted like milk with taro bits as topping. The brown sugar milk tea was good; similar to molten milk tea from taste tea (id rather get the molten because it's cheaper). The uji matcha was the best drink i had here and would recommend because the matcha flavor was really nice (you can really taste the matcha but not in an overpowering way) and tasted great quality, definitely better than matcha milk teas i had from other shops on island The good: -Quality cups -interesting drink choices -ingredients taste good quality -milk tea is good The bad: -you have to pay for parking validation? $0.50 per 20min. I've been to other businesses in the building and was never charged for validation -PRICEY drinks ($6 range for regular size). The atmosphere is very adorable. The cat coasters on their tables was the highlight of my boba run. This was my first time ordering cheese foam on my boba. The first time I tried it was at Omomo and I quite liked it. You might think having cheese foam would be weird but it's gives a nice touch to your boba. But I don't think I am gonna be getting cheese foam on my boba anytime soon cause I wasn't able to enjoy the taste of the milk tea. It is a good place to experiment for sure. First of all, the owners/employees of this place were so kind and sweet! Once me and my friends walked in, we were greeted right away. The lady owner was so so sweet that she even offered samples of their cheesetea AND chocolates while my friends and I were studying. I highly recommend this place! I've never tried cheese milk tea in my life and I'm glad I came here to try my first ever cheesetea and it was soooo soooo good! I got their Uji matcha and My friends got the strawberry drink. I'm a self-confessed boba addict. Every time I see a new boba place pop up, I'm compelled to try it. Almost always, however, these new shops don't compare to Cheese Tea. I love Cheese Tea. The drinks are delicious, the boba is fantastic and the cheese foam is hands down the best, IMHO. So... why 4 stars instead of 5? Because 1) They aren't as generous with the amount of boba given as other places. It's easily half the amount compared to other boba shops. 2) As delicious as the drinks are, I can't stand how the straws aren't individually wrapped. The straws are just exposed to the air, in all its vulnerable nakedness. Even before this COVID chaos, I was off-put by the unprotected straws, but now that COVID is here and continues to be a concern, I'm even more turned off by the naked straws. This could be easily rectified if the shop would invest in sanitary straws. This is the only boba shop that I know of (and I've been to a LOT) that doesn't have individually wrapped straws! Why Cheese Tea, why? I'm sure the added cost would be worth it to give customers peace of mind about cleanliness, right? I hope the owner, Kyla, sees this review and considers making the switch. read more

I recently got into drinking boba and have been trying different places. This shop has the best cheese foam I have tasted so far. It is so rich with some saltiness. Other foams I've tasted were more like whipped cream. I also like that they use REAL FRUIT in their drinks and not syrup. The place is small and cute. I have only been here once, but was completely blown away! I decided to visit this place after the Made in Hawaii festival. We parked at alamoana and walked over to Blaisdell hall. On our way back, it was hot so we decided to step in, rest a little and grab a cool drink. We got this mango smoothie and it was amazing! It wasn't overly sweet and didn't taste like mango powder. I'm pretty sure they use fresh fruits actually. It was really refreshing and I will definitely be back, despite this being out of my way. That's just how good it is! One thing to note is that you'd have to walk here for sure. There's no near by parking since it is on a Main Street. And from what I could tell, there's no free parking lots either. You'd either have to park on a side road and pay the meter, or just walk over from alamoana. Either way, it is well worth the effort read more

I came here for the first time on a random weekday day sometime in 2019. I have been hearing about it from people and such on social media and stuff. When I was finally within the Ala Moana area, I walked down to Cheese Tea, which is pretty much on Kapiolani Blvd. right across from the big Inspiration store. You cannot really miss it if you are walking within that area. However, you might miss it if you are driving. I am not sure if they have parking lot. Anyways, there little store has a decent amount of table and seating areas. I am for sure a milk tea / boba fan and drinker. These guys specialize in cheese style milk tea / boba drinks. When I tried it for the first time, it was Ok for me. I found out, preferentially, for myself, the cheese flavored style milk / boba tea drink was not too much for me. Anyways, I do hope to come back and try maybe another drink for more diversity. read more

It's a been awhile since I've wrote a review. But let's get back to it. TL;DR: Cheese is super thick and creamy. Just enough saltiness to not overpower the tea. I do recommend/prefer trying it with a bolder stronger flavor tea instead of a lighter one (i.e. jasmine tea). Definitely worth a try for you tea-aficionados. PARKING: Parking is in the same structure as you would go if you are eating at Gyu-kaku or Pancake House. Street parking on Kapiolani Boulevard after 6pm I believe. SERVICE: The girl at the register was very helpful and answered any questions regarding what was in the drinks (since their menus lacks descriptions of what some of the specialty drinks contain) Drinks came out fairly quickly. Not really fast but not overly slow. Waited about 5-6min for 4 drinks. THE PRODUCT: I ordered the the Oolong Cheese Tea (Small Size). My personal verdict of the drink is actually a 3/5, mainly because I feel that it does need to be drank in a very particular way to get the best out of it. The workers to ensure that they remind the customers there is a 'preferred' way to drink it as well. So the way the drink is served is the thick cheese sits on top maybe like...2-inches thick and rest underneath is the tea. The recommended way to drink it is that you drink it from the lip (they have a specially designed cup cover for this) and you drink it from there. I believe the idea is to get a little bit of the cheese and the tea flows under it as you tilt it. My issue that I had with it was that the cheese was so thick on first sip, it was kinda difficult for the tea to flow beneath the cheese, so my first sip was mostly salty cheese. What I ended up doing was just putting the straw in and drinking/stirring it a little to maybe help loosen things up. Pro-tip, I wouldn't bother mixing it... the cheese doesn't blend with the tea very well (Don't think of the cheese as milk or cream). After sipping it slowly and surely, I started to get that nice combination of the cheese and tea. That's when I got the "Ahh I get it now". So I do think there is a bit of technique to it. Once you find that balance, I thought it was pretty good. I can see though that this experience can be a turn-off for some people which is why its a 3. Flavor wise, no complaints there. Friends had some other flavors like, fruit tea, jasmine tea and some coffee one. They all liked theirs as well. I didn't try any of theirs. VERDICT: I'm definitely a fan of what the cheese flavor adds to the tea. I think it's pretty unique and kinda addicting. Definitely wouldn't mind going back and trying some their different flavor combos. read more

I found my new favorite drink place! Why, because it's called "cheese cap". Get your drink and shake it up, you won't regret ordering this wow factor! My family got the peach and strawberry fruit smoothie the price is reasonable if you want the cheese cap it's $1.25 add on. There's about 4-6 tables that will fit 2 people with cute cat coaster to place your drinks on. There's a long table for 4 people to sit. The staff people were so friendly and extremely helpful explaining the drink menu. This is a place where you want to try the different flavors. I do hope to see this place grow with in the community. As I am such a fan of their drinks.!!!! This place is located on Kapiolani Blvd where Gyu-kaku is so you must park in the building or find street parking. I don't suggest street parking since you are competing with Side Street Inn. I would have given this place a five star, but I'm not a fan of the parking structure. read more

The male worker and owner were really nice! Very cute atmosphere in this cute little shop. I have been a huge fan of brown sugar milk tea but when I ordered it here, there was no tea in it. I didn't ask what the drink was as it should be pretty self explanatory in the name itself but I guess you can't be too cautious here. I never ran into this situation where the drink is advertised as a milk tea but has no tea in the beverage. I am not a big fan of drinking straight up whole milk so I didn't get to enjoy my beverage. Usually at other shops people call it "iced brown sugar boba milk" or other names without the word "tea" in it so it would be less confusing. The guy said my friend drink "o.b.c temptation (hong kong milk tea with brown sugar boba and cheese) was their version of a brown sugar milk TEA. Heard about this place for awhile, but never had the urge to go until my milk tea sweet tooth was kicking in and wanted to try as much milk tea and boba places as I could. This place is honestly my fave!! Before ordering, I had some questions and the man behind the counter answered every one. I went with the brown sugar matcha w/ boba and added cheese foam. Sooooo good!! I actually don't really care for the boba in general, but omg, these ones were good. It was sweet and chewy! Tasted like they were freshly made. The matcha was delish! Perfect amount of sweetness and not bitter. The place is so cute, with colorful couches and cat-themed pillows and coasters. Even the walls were all cat out. Totally IG-worthy. Took a half star off cuz of the humbug of either paying for parking in the structure or looking for street parking. They do, however, validate for 20 minutes. You know how stressful it is to make sure u order and are out in 20 minutes? Always praying there isn't a long line. The worker said if I wanted to stay longer, I would have to pay. Boo.
