My mother lived at Driftwood Manor for 7-1/2 years until her death last year. She had Alzheimer's disease, as well as diabetes (type II). In the 7-1/2 years, they never did manage her diabetes well enough to call it controlled, let alone well controlled. They had control of her diet and her medications, she was immobile; I am not sure why 7-1/2 years was not long enough to figure out a balance in that area. There were several owners of the nursing home during her stay there. Nursing homes typically change hands a lot. At one point, they tried to kick her out because the current ownership wanted to turn the nursing home into a rehab facility and a younger - more rehab type of patient - was being sexually inappropriate with several elderly patients. My mother had Alzheimer's and was unable to make responsible decisions. The other patient had been in a motorcycle accident and was in his supposedly right mind. She had inappropriate behavior with this one other patient; he had inappropriate behavior with several other patients. They tried to kick my mother out. There were some wonderful people on staff over the years and some less wonderful - like anywhere else. Some of the nurses and aids really cared about her and some clearly did not. Some nurses would take the time to negotiate with her and get her medications in her; some would just move on. There were times I visited her for hours and no one came in to change or turn her. Toward the end of her life, she was nonverbal and totally bed bound. During this time, I sat at her bedside for 2-3 hours at times and no one came in to turn her or change her. This was not just once or twice or during a short period of time. This was a regular occurrence over years. We looked around at a few different points and found that some other nursing homes looked better on paper, but weren't any better in person. Some nursing homes looked better on the surface, but had more violations than Driftwood. In the end, we didn't move her. It's hard to say if that was wise or not. Medicare no longer pays for any care related to bedsores because bedsores are 100% preventable by adequate nursing care. The last 1-1/2 to 2 years of my mother's life, she was in excruciating - 100% preventable - pain. The standard of care for a bed bound patient is an alternating air pressure mattress. Driftwood didn't provide one until after my mother had a bedsore. When my mother was dying, she was transferred to a hospital and I was there for dressing changes. Her bedsore was Stage III. There are only four stages and at stage IV, you can typically see the bone. Her suffering was preventable, but was not prevented. Her nursing care was inadequate. Driftwood is a nursing home. They are not great places to spend the end of a person's life. We could not afford better for my mother, which is a shame. If your family can afford better, I would strongly recommend you make that happen for them. If not, I strongly recommend that available family members become educated about the care needed for their loved one's care and make a coordinated effort to make sure that care is received. My mother's husband visited her every day she was there, but was ignorant, and assumed they were doing their job. That was very unfortunate for my mother. read more

I am a friend or relative of a resident They look nice on the surface, but their health care is NOT good or very personal. They ignore patients, unless the family is present. Patients who are supposed to get up and walk every day (with assistance) or turned 3 to 4 times a day to avoid bed sores, they will be neglected! This is a truthful statement, I ought to know, they took care of my father-in-law. read more

This is an ok place as far as nursing homes go. At the present time they are under construction. Trying to make things better for their residents and the staff. The housekeeping people do a great job in keeping the floors clean. There is no carpet so there is no bad foul smell greeting you when you walk in the door. read more

Driftwood Manor - Kicks to the curb (literally) 64 year old mentally & physically handicapped man with a list of phone numbers to call other board and care homes. He didn't even have a cell phone to make any of their requested calls let alone the ability to call 911 if needed. They even refused to release him with any of his medication. His daughter went to the facility to look for him and she found him parked on the curb near the driveway of the facility in his wheelchair. He was outside overnight and for nearly 24 hours before 911 had to be called due to lack of medication. Do not trust them with your loved ones!!! read more

My beautiful grandmother had been a resident of this place for several years. In the beginning they seemed to really care about the well-being of the patients, both medically and also personally. The past year up until her recent DEATH due to the lack of response and care is horrific. We live close by and there is always someone there to visit and make sure she is getting the care she needs. We noticed that she was not getting cleaned or changed as frequent as she should and that her toe nails, finger nails etc were also being neglected so we always made sure to do this and also demand they be aware of it as well. My grandmother Lois Ryen died on the morning of April 1st. The 6 months prior to her passing she was given the loudest, most craziest roomie ever. My grandmother was bed ridden and could not get up. This woman who I know was sick would scream all day and night, turn her tv on full blast and my grandmother could not get any rest ever! We fought and told them my grandmother has been here for several years and you need to get her someone else. She had a newly remodeled room and all her personal things up, this was her home. THEY moved my grandmother into an old nasty room 2 weeks before her death instead of moving the other woman out of my grandmothers room. 2 months before her death I had noticed that her left arm was 4 times the size and full of fluid from her tricep to her elbow. I called my mom right away and she said she spoke to them and they were supposed to be taking care of it, I said well they have not. I went to the nurses station and demanded they care for her NOW. I was told that they were giving her the medication and that the swelling has gone down. I asked my grandma if they were in fact giving her meds and checking on her and she said yes BUT they were not giving her the right medication and stated that the medication would cause her to have to urinate frequently and they did not want to change her that many times. Are you fucking kidding me?? We pay you how many thousands a month, you chose this profession so you will do what it takes to get her well. A few days later I came back and my mother and other family and the swelling was getting worse now down into her forearm. She was also having trouble eating. On Easter Sunday my husband and I took her her favorite homemade toffee and she struggled to eat it and her lunch. She was choking and had a hard time getting food down. I called the nurse and they said she had a cold. I said um no this is not a cold she needs to see the doctor NOW. I called my mom as well and told her her arm is even worse now and she cant eat shes choking on anything she tries to swallow. My mom made arrangements to get an ambulance to take her to the hospital the next morning. That night we got a call from Driftwood that they had to call 911 as she was having trouble breathing, Just a cold though right? Long story short these ass hats NON caring UNPROFESSIONAL who never once unless we were there to see her condition called my mom who is her primary care person to let us know anything, THANK god we live close and are always there, my grandmother was choking on her own fluids, drowning in her own body! Her esophagus had collapsed and any food water saliva anything she tried to swallow went into and filled her lungs causing her body to have infections which was the SWELLING. The medication they did not put her on because she would pee too much is what the Emergency put her on right away!!!! My grandmother died due to their negligence and lack of compassion and care 5 days later. My grandmother received the most loving, gentle, care, in those 5 days then all the years at this death house. She was bathed, her nails cut her hair washed, touched, loved, these people were supposed do to all these things when we could not be there. AND we were there several times a week. It baffles me. If you love your family do NOT take them here, this place is only about the money and are not in the medical care home profession for the right reasons. When my grandmother passed NOT one person tried to contact us and the few nurses that said they cared so much NO showed to her service. My aunt was transfered to Driftwood from another care facility. She has been there less than a week and everyday has been hell for her. Amoung the things wrong with my aunt she has a gaping hole in her stomach that you can clearly see and touch her intestines through. She had a bad case of sepsis so much of her innards were removed and the hole wont close up(its been a year). She has only a small part of one of her intestines left and fistulas that all drain thru the hole into a bag. Because of this all he medication and nutriants are through iv's. We were all assured there would be a smooth transition and that they were all set up to receive her. When she got there they didnt even have the equipment on site for iv meds and other iv fluids. She did not receive her pain or any other medication for days. They gave her a pill which went right through her and out the bag in about a minutes time. Her care staff were unable to change her bag effectively and consequently would leak and cover her with fecal matter. She would push the call button for the nurse and wait hours and hours for someone to respond. The staff is paid to be on top of patients' care yet my aunt is the one telling staff what medicines she needs when and having to ask them repeatedly before they actually things. This place is horriable so far, our family is really trying to find some remiedy and have gotten a lawyer involved to address the areas of neglict and malpractice. I would say if you have a choice keep your loved one out of here, we are trying to get her moved but it is not overnight. read more

I like and respect this facility..., my mother has been taken adbantage of by a staff member there who seen a opportunity of a new place of residence, and my mothers income has now been taken over by this woman.... she receives her IHSS, she is her proveder, but I am a witness that she does nothing of the sort physically, but yes, is in manipulating her very wisely.. I am 24 years old, and all my life have been able to get anything I wanted from my mother... trust me, if you listen, and spend time with her, and make everybody else the bad guy, you can get her complete attention and cooperativeness. I know that the employees are not sapose to deal with the patients outside of work... this woman lives with my mom, asks her for money all the time, and has total control of my mothers mind... I need help someone... my mother does not see this, but if you knew the detail, then you would be angry as hell read more
