Awful, do not waste your money…read more Let me start by saying the staff are lovely and friendly, I am not a mean-spirited person but at the risk of hurting feelings I have decided that something needs to be said. I feel utterly ripped off. I called last week to find out if they do shellac nail polish. I had been inside the salon a few times and thought it looked nice, and clean. On the phone she told me it was $15 for a polish change and $35 for a manicure but that a manicure includes a polish change. Pretty standard. I decided to spring for the manicure and they were accommodating and got me in right away. I immediately regretted my decision. The back area was not well-lit and the décor was very tacky, a harsh contrast from the front of the shop. The girl smelled like cigarettes but the real issue was the complete lack of anything resembling a manicure. She filed my nails, had me walk to the bathroom to rinse my hands in the sink, and then followed that up with the "gel" nail polish application (there was some confusion over whether it was shellac or gel nail polish and I'm still not sure which one I got). It took about half an hour and when I went to pay at the front it was $50. I asked what the price was before tax and was told it was $45. I quickly paid and left and then thought about how much I had just paid, and for what? It was not the price I was quoted and I regret not questioning it further. The level of service provided for that price is simply inappropriate. Ultimately, I wish Thunder Bay had more competition for nail salons like the ones in larger cities. For example, for $50 in Winnipeg I could get a (real) manicure AND a pedicure. I also wish Yelp reviews were more common here so I could have avoided this experience. Hopefully, if you're reading this, you've learned from my mistake. Take your business elsewhere (I am on a mission to find where exactly!)

I got a gelicure manicure and the aesthetician was very inexperienced. I had to ask her to re do my manicure as the gel was still sticky and uneven with nail polish cured to my skin all around the nail bed. Looked like a 7 year old painted them. She re did them after I asked but I was still disappointed with the result for a $45 dollar service. At checkout I showed another worker and she fixed them up herself and made them tolerable. Both ladies were very nice however, after spending 3 hours out of my day (when they said it would only take 1) I was charged full price. I am giving this a 1 star because there was no compensation for my time and their mistakes.

Doris is a great massage therapist. She's reasonably priced, very pleasant, is friendly but doesn't…read moretalk during your massage (unless that's what you like), and does a really good job. She's attentive to your individual needs and usually asks at the beginning of each appointment which areas need to be focused on and what you want. Her location in the Kangas Sauna is kind of awesome - it's convenient to go for a sauna and hot tub before or after your appointment. Her space is kind of small though, and can get pretty warm if the sun is shining in through the windows (placed high - no one can see in.) She does her best to keep the temperature comfortable in there with fans and stuff, but there have been a few times I've gone and found myself a little warmer than my ideal, though not uncomfortable. If you're looking for a real zen kind of atmosphere, look elsewhere. Her room is pretty cluttered and cramped and is very heavily decorated in a sea shore motif. However, this doesn't bother me at all, since once I'm on the table my eyes are closed and I'm off in my own little world anyway. You don't get the typical "spa" kind of experience here but Doris provides a really excellent service. She's not difficult to schedule either and is available at a pretty wide range of hours. Come with cash or a cheque - no Interac or credit card processing. If you have insurance get a receipt - she's a RMT so her services are claimable though she doesn't do direct billing.
