When my brother and I were, well, younger and our appetites rivalled that of a circus elephant, our mother would return home from her nursing grave shift with a box of Dream Fluff donuts. We loved donuts as much as the next teenagers but Dream Fluff was always an extra treat. I remember the apple fritters would spark daylong a sugar rush. A moment ago I finished a chocolate-covered old fashioned from Dream Fluff. I am pleased and relieved that for all the sugar-rush change that has swept through the bay area in the last decade or two, the quality at Dream Fluff has yet to dissapoint. The donut was tender, not too sweet, and crunchy.....I mean, as crunchy as a chocolate-covered old fashioned can be. I only gave DF 4 stars because, to be fair, I only had the one donut. Which isn't to say that they don't deserve five stars, I just have to figure in the omnipresent biases. So the next time I'm visiting my old stomping grounds I'll stop by DF and pick something up. I have walked past this donut place for years, but only came here for the first time a couple days ago. I bought a bag of donut holes and a chocolate donut. The donut holes and chocolate donut tasted fresh and filling. When I would walk past Dream Fluffs it always looked pretty small from the outside, but when going inside it's actually a pretty big space and would make for a good spot for breakfast or lunch. It's also great that they open early at 4am (that's even earlier than the closest Starbucks haha). But because it opens early, it also closes early at 6pm. No dream, just fluff! I went to this place today because of a positive review. I ordered a chocolate cream-filled donut and 2 sugar donuts to go. When I got home, I gave the chocolate filled one to my mother, a donut lover. She took one bite and pushed it aside saying it was soggy and tasted like mush! I then took out one of the sugar donuts and could not believe my eyes. It was half of a squashed donut which looked like it had been pulled apart and half eaten - utterly disgusting!! I took out the remaining sugar donut and cut off a piece to taste and can confirm that it too was soggy and left an unpleasant aftertaste. Of course, they all were dumped into the garbage immediately. What is so infuriating and unacceptable, besides paying for bad food, is having someone (who most likely runs the place) fob off such grossly inedible and unhygienic food! I'm a regular here, I gave up on finding great donuts a few months ago till I got a job near this place. I figured I'd give it a shot and I'm glad I did. Now most mornings I go here, I get a short stack of pancakes and maybe a donut for the road, after only a few times the ladies working the counter recognized my patterns and made me feel like a regular, which is something I like. The only problem(s) I have is their price on milk is a little off, it's cheaper to buy two small cartons than it is one larger bottle, you even get more from two cartons instead of one bottle. And their syrup is that fake maple stuff which normally I can't stand, but to be honest, here I don't mind it. Great food, great staff, seating is at a premium but if you don't mind the bar seats there's usually room. read more

This is the most unassuming place among all the pish posh and fru fru of the block. Don't let the plane Jane storefront and weathered signage fool you. If you are a foodie - prepare to be blown away when you step in. I love the 'down to earth' of this place - a ginormous menu that stretches the length of the place awaits you - and takes me a while for me to decide each time. So many choices! The food itself is inexpensive, portions are generous and it is (almost) just like cooking mom used to make. My only disappointment is that I have walked by this place over 100 times and never knew what awaited me inside.
