I started at Draper in early 2019 and initially took pride in coming to work each day. Unfortunately, that experience began to change after about a year and has continued to decline since. After 6.5 years of employment, this is the most accurate way I can summarize my experience.
During that time, I have witnessed a steady decline in workplace culture, employee morale, and trust in leadership. What once felt like a place with potential has become an environment where employees feel undervalued, overlooked, and increasingly disengaged.
Morale across the workplace is extremely low--and for good reason. Employees consistently put in significant effort, yet meaningful recognition is virtually nonexistent. The annual $25 holiday gift card is not viewed as appreciation, but rather as a clear signal of how little the company values the people who keep it running. Gestures like this often reinforce frustration rather than appreciation.
Workload distribution is another major issue that has not been effectively addressed. A small group of employees regularly carries a disproportionate share of the workload, while others contribute far less without consequence. Those who complete their responsibilities are often expected to take on additional duties outside of their role, which leads to burnout and resentment. This ongoing imbalance reflects a lack of structure, accountability, and respect for employees' time and effort.
Leadership's absence on the floor is both noticeable and damaging. Supervisors and HR are rarely present, and when they are, they often appear disconnected and unapproachable. There is limited effort made to engage with employees, understand daily challenges, or build trust. Leadership cannot be effective from a distance, yet that is how it currently operates.
Favoritism and inconsistent enforcement of policies have also become common concerns. Decisions often appear to be influenced by personal bias rather than fairness or professionalism. This creates an environment where employees feel singled out, unsupported, and uncertain about expectations.
Perhaps most concerning is the lack of accountability within management. Issues related to workplace hostility and employee concerns are frequently raised but rarely resolved in any meaningful or lasting way. Problems are acknowledged, temporarily addressed, and then allowed to continue. This pattern has significantly contributed to the negative environment employees experience on a daily basis.
Employees deserve to feel respected, supported, and valued--none of which are consistently present. read more
