After greeting me, Dr. York launched into a prolonged lecture on my bunions; what the X-rays revealed, the type of surgery he'd perform, the rehab, and the recovery. If you have a foot or ankle problem do not go to Dr. Shane M. York of Midwest Orthopedics in Sycamore IL. I injured my Achilles tendon in August 2018. He put me in an "Arizona" boot to wear daily and a night splint in September. Neither helped nor did physical therapy. Dr. York continued to avoid surgery. In December 2019 I told him that the pain was getting worse. He said, 'Let's give it another 5 weeks." After 15 months, I suspected another 5 weeks would make no difference. I got a second opinion. The new doctor-a foot/ankle specialist-said that I needed surgery and I had it soon after. I discovered from my new physical therapist, who has specialized in foot/ankle for 19 years, that the Arizona boot is not used for Achilles problems and that it hindered healing. Dr. York also had orthotics made for me. The PT has made orthotics for 10 years. She said it was not the correct kind for Achilles tendon injuries and that it was impeding the post-op healing. I could have avoided a full year of ankle pain if I had gone to the second doctor instead of Dr. York. Don't make that mistake. read more
