With 18 years experience going to Dr. Gomez, I can confidently say this dentist/periodontist deserves 5 stars. First Dr. Gomez has a Masters Degree in Prosthodontics from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry in Ann Arbor. Like another reviewer I once had concern about a possible problem, and Dr. Gomez assured me I had no worry. Tens years since that conversation, I can unequivocally say the doctor was right...no problem.
The first thing I noticed is his administration of anesthesia is slow, so it works as it is being installed which minimizes discomfort. Dr. Gomez knows his profession and delivers the highest level practice. One friend who spends extended periods in Oaxaca has had several implants over a five year period, and one implant required a sinus lift (a bone graft installed into the sinus cavity to correct bone loss and to support an implant). All were successful.
Another friend has had extensive work done, and her two grown sons have also used Dr. Gomez. Her story started like this: Her Sarasota dentist in the US said she needed a crown to replace and old filling. Dr. Gomez told her the filling was sound, the margins were not deteriorating and she could likely get many years out the filling. It has been many years and she still has the filling. Dr. Gomez doesn't do unnecessary work. This Dr. is honest and if you don't need work he won't do it. The fillings/root canals/crowns were done well.
Over the years, I have learned about his operation, and one time he explained he was not satisfied with the crown/bridges/ and other prostheses available in Mexico, so he started his own teaching lab in a space adjacent to his dental office. The goal was to have excellent prostheses and give back something to society by teaching people useful skills.
The process for a crown goes something like this. When the tooth or implant is ready for a crown or bridge, Dr. Gomez makes an impression one day. The next day or two you return for the placement of the crown or bridge. If an adjustment is needed, he walks a few steps to his lab where adjustments are made, and in a few minutes you have a perfect- fitting tooth or bridge. It is done professionally and timely.
On my last trip, January 2018, Dr. Gomez showed me his three dimensional computer program to greatly aid the installation of implants and other work. He is one of a study group of only 1000 dentists in the world who has this technology and is evaluating its many beneficial uses.
Finally, a word about Oaxaca. It was founded in 1529 and it is a very old city. Most buildings in the downtown area are stone or adobe with plaster/cement over the surface, the streets are crowded, and so are the sidewalks. People walk, take buses and taxis. Enjoy the culturally rich experience and have confidence in Dr. Gomez. You won't find a better dentist/periodontist/prosthedontist. read more
