Assisted weight machines on the first floor. There is a small room with a couple of rowing machines. Free weights take up part of the gym area, but there is still room for shooting hoops if you choose. Also, the pool gives this gym an edge over others in the Lakewood area. There are also a large number of classes available from low impact to high intensity kickboxing.

The Treacherous Shallows My journey began following a grueling session with my interpretive hopscotch league. I was seeking the baptismal clarity of the pool; instead, I found a lukewarm grave. I stepped into the shallow end--a depth so pathetic it barely dampened my shins--and promptly began to perish. It was a feat of anatomical impossibility. I was drowning in what was essentially a glorified puddle, my dignity dissolving faster than a cheap bouillon cube. Every desperate splash was a testament to my own physical incompetence, a silent scream for a God who had clearly clocked out for lunch. The Human Tsunami Enter Abdula: a child of such monumental, gravitational presence that his mere entry into the water caused a localized sea-level rise. Abdula did not swim; he displaced. His rolls functioned as organic flotation devices that defied both the laws of physics and the Geneva Conventions. He was a whirling dervish of "fat-chud energy," flailing with a smugness that suggested he knew his sheer mass would eventually beach me like a tragic, hopscotching whale. The Goulash God And then, there was The Sentinel. A towering, golden-haired colossus of questionable Eastern European origin--a man who radiated the "musty gym locker" chic of a disgraced Olympic shot-putter. Perched atop his throne like a bored Roman emperor, he managed a feat of multitasking that would make Gordon Ramsay weep. In one hand: a steaming bowl of industrial-grade goulash. In the other: a cracked iPhone, where he was aggressively day-trading crypto with the frantic energy of a man who had already lost his house. As Abdula's tidal waves threatened to consume my very existence, our "hero" didn't reach for a buoy. He reached for a spoon. He sat there, stirring his stew with a rhythmic, soul-crushing indifference. He watched me gasp for air in four inches of water, locked eyes with my fading soul, whispered a solemn "Walahi," and returned to his failing portfolio. The scent of paprika and despair hung heavy in the humid air. The Verdict Eventually, the universe grew bored of mocking me, and I crawled onto the tiles, shivering and defeated. Abdula remained, a glorious, floating island of chaos. The lifeguard didn't offer a towel; he merely grunted at a particularly nasty dip in the Ethereum markets and took another bite of his meat-slurry. Yesterday, I visited the gym and showed a lot of interest in a membership. I mentioned that I…read morewould love to sign up but I was worried about doing so without bringing in my disabled son first to make sure that they accommodate his special needs. I was then directed to speak with Chet, the general manger for this facility. After speaking with him, he proceeded to argue with me over the phone about why it would be impossible for my son to visit first before signing up. This was highly concerning to me as it was a real unknown whether or not my son would do well in their environment. I would heavily caution parents of disabled children from using this facility given what I know now.

Definitely a great spot to get your workout in, hang out with friends and family, or host a private party!

The institution is a wonderful place to just walk around, enjoy the architecture, lectures, cooking demonstrations or church services. Bestor Plaza is the town square with some shops and restaurants around it. Once a week it also has an outdoor market and food trucks. You can walk around, it's a bit hilly here and there, but there are other options. Golf carts on smaller loops and shuttle busses on loops all around the institution. For the first time ever, Chautauqua Institution hosted a Naturalization Ceremony. 30 people from 18 countries got their citizenship after the Pledge of Allegiance to the USA. There were 500+ people watching the ceremony, most of them not family members; just people who wanted to witness this moving event.

It is a lovely, walkable community with lectures, cooking exhibitions, church services among the things one can do/participate in. Some are free; some have a fee. Although we did not stay for it, there was going to be a chef preparing a special dinner tonight which would be served tonight in Bestor Plaza, the town square. There were also some food trucks and other vendors on the plaza today. What was very special today was a Naturalization Ceremony. It was the first time this has been done in the Institute. It was well attended, maybe 500-600 people. There were 30 new Americans, from 18 countries, who took the Pledge of Allegiance to the USA. The spectators were not family members, just people who wanted to witness this commitment by these 30 adults. It was beautiful and very moving. After this ceremony, I found out that most Naturalizations are often in a court house with few in attendance. The ceremony today had to be very, very special for the 30 new Americans. There was lots of applause! There are mini-buses and golf carts circling the grounds throughout the day, so getting around is very easy, if your walking is limited.
