It's a pretty decent school. There, I said it. Though the only thing keeping me from wanting to say more positive stuff about this school, is some of the teachers/substitutes and the students at this school. Let's start with the teachers. I'll go out of my way and say that tons of the teachers at this school have done an amazing job and so I compliment them for that. However, for some teachers, I'm afraid that it is a completely different story. Let's start off with the substitutes. There is this one teacher, Mrs. Woodruff. She had been the one substitute that when I get into my classroom and see her, I just want to back away to somewhere else in the school. This Woodruff person is not a good teacher, and I hate to say things like this towards teachers. She doesn't like students talking in the classroom unless specifically stated by the teacher. Now, there is so many things I could nitpick about the teachers, but for the sake of trying to keep this review from turning into 50 page essay, I'm going to refrain from doing that. Now, lets move onto the students. Some of the students, to say the least, especially in the 8th grade, are absolutely horrible. When you look at this school and see what some of the students in 8th grade do, must parents and adults would be sick. I have been the victim to one of these. Not to mention when this happens, the school recommends that you go and use their "SpeakUP" program, which is supposed to stop bullying in Marana schools, but clearly this has not happened. Alongside with that, specific students have been doing things that wouldn't be allowed in the school, but the staff does absolutely nothing to solve harassment or bullying inside of the school. There has been occasions that they (admins in the school/district) would ask the teachers to talk about it, or, for an example, like recently, they will bring in an old teacher to do something that would TRY to solve it, but of course, nothing ever works because they do not take the proper steps to solve what is happening. Not to also mention that a LOT OF STUDENTS use the Chromebooks to their advantage during school, which allows them to access the internet in a way that their Chromebooks aren't supposed to. The Chromebooks use a program called "Securely" that doesn't do it's job properly. I'd like this school to be improved for my siblings and every other student that will be going here for years until they get into high school. I have gone to 3 schools in the Marana Unified School District, and I really do not think this school is showing the best it could be. To any regards to parents reading this, please note that this school may not be the best place to send your student. I guess this really did turn into an essay, didn't it? SUMMARY: To summarize this, the school may not be the best place to send your student. Students do not have the best attitude in the school overall, staff doesn't really do anything about harassment and bullying, some substitutes do not fully interact with the class, and some teachers leave at random and leave a substitute for over 3 days that appears to be for no reason at all. The school is uncomfortable to go to at times, and so much more that could be an issue.
