Doune Braes Hotel (Pronounced doon bra-y-es) is the little gem hidden on the West side of the island. Carloway is about a 50 minute drive from Stornoway. It is a beautiful hotel which over looks a loch giving the surrounding a very peaceful tranquil feel to it. They have many rooms available, all of which I believe are en-suite and reasonably priced. They provide food from lunch until late which is delicious, even us locals go there for lunch! They also have a bar where you can relax with a drink after a day of sight seeing. The staff are friendly and helpful and their service is brilliant. If you are looking to stay outside of Stornoway then this is one of the hotel that would be highly recommended. read more

I stayed at this lovely hotel last month. The friendliness and eternal helpfulness of Eileen and the staff was an unusual delight. Beautiful breakfasts. Fabulous lamb dishes at dinner. Comfortable and charming rooms. And close to the standing stones of Callanish... A world-class site of antiquity. read more
