My previous lawyer had closed his office without notice. The court had already sent me a notice to dismiss the case due to payment failure. I contacted Douglas Law Practice, and the first advice I received from Lawyer Douglas was to send the payment immediately regardless I hire her or not. I came into a crisis situation where I was taken advantage of by a supposed business partner that I tried to trust and I ended up being responsible for over 100,000 in debt. I am a single working mother and was in fear of them coming after me and garnishing my wages. Ms. Douglas, thank you for your response. These were not my deadlines. These were dates and times YOU provided, as a date the files would be completed. I understand you get backed up in your work- most people do. However, missing deadlines multiple times, not knowing or being able to answer any questions about my case, and not responding or following up with emails causes excessive unnecessary stress in an already stressful situation. Now that my case has been filed, I find out today the specific reason why I am filing for bankruptcy was completely left off the case, (oops- don't worry, we can file an amended return) REALLY? Recently I had been informed that waiting to file until April 1st would be to my advantage, but because I was requesting the paperwork since the 15th of Mar. (the first missed deadline) your paralegal went ahead and filed on Mar. 31. Again, poor communication and poor follow through. I do understand just how complicated my case is, which is why I hired a lawyer to assist me with it instead of using a paralegal myself to fill out the forms. This case is too complicated for a paralegal, even one with 20 years experience. A successful conclusion to this case will be made, regardless of what legal channels I need to follow up with. read more
