For the last five years Southern Ohio Tactical has helped several thousand people obtain their concealed carry permits. The hand gun safety classes are taught by active duty police officers, each of whom has an average of 20 years of service, including experience on a regional SWAT team. Students will learn through a combination of video, Power Point, and hands-on firearm training. The firearms training courses will cover a wide variety of topics, including pistol craft, legal issues related to concealed carry, the application process, home and personal safety, and much more. The classes are limited to 20 people, and are taught at least three to four times a month. One day certification classes are also available.The cost for the gun courses is $90 per person and $80 for veterans. There are group rates available for parties of three or more. The hands-on aspect of training will take place at a shooting range 15 minutes from the facility, at which you will be provided with 50 rounds of ammo. Matt is obviously well versed in his knowledge of the subject matter and his presentation was well prepared and thought out. Some of the material was a refresher of gun safety guidelines that I had received many years ago and some of it was new, current and relevant to issues involving CCW and self defense as it applies in todays world. After the classroom instruction we went to the range to qualify. Although outdoor range activity in January in Ohio can be challenging, Matt kept the group on point and focused and completed the course with minimal distraction. Stopped in yesterday with 2 friends who wanted me to teach them how to shoot a semi-automatic…read morepistol. We filled out the required registration and waivers quickly on the laptops. We then chose a 9mm GLOCK for the gun rental, 200 rounds of 9mm 115 grain Luger ammunition, and a silhouette target. I provided "eyes & ears" for each of us. Total for all this and 2 hours of range time was approximately ~$120. My friend paid because I wasn't shooting, just coaching. My friends HAD A BLAST and REALLY ENJOYED learning how to shoot a pistol. Neither had experience with a pistol before and soon they were "all in the black" on a target ~10 feet downrange. Lots of fun and smiles for the money! I recommend this range for it's SAFETY & CLEANLINESS.
