I heard Hood River had a lot of good microbreweries including "Full Sail Brewing" (You can get the beers at McCormick & Schmick's/Full Sail Brewing in Portland). This place is HUGE - bunch of nice outside seating and open spaces, 2 bars, seating area and a stage for a live music. The service isn't bad. Street parking. It might be a bit difficult to find a spot. - Gluttony Expedition - Pizza is 16 inch only - so huge but looked good! Killer red: IRA. Medium body, mild with a hint of bitterness. Good. - Conqueror's Deduction - Nice, cozy and casual place to hangout with friends for good beers! Amazing, amazing, amazing freaking pizza!! This was our second time to this brewery and the food was better than I remember. Seriously! Had the marguerita pizza, which is my favorite kind of pizza. It's basically a wooden fire pizza with red sauce, mozzarella and basil on a thin crust, we add yummy sausage on it and it just sets the pizza off. It bursts with flavor. I'm usually not a thin crust pizza person but this just does it for me. It being thin crust is probably the reason I can easily take down 3-4 slices which is fine with me :) It's a pretty big place in the inside, there are two sides to the restaurant plus there is outdoor seating. It has a great atmosphere, friendly staff, ice cold delicious beer and a cool vibe in a very trendy town that's full of breweries and wineries. If you're looking for more of a variety of food, this is not your spot. This place pretty much only serves pizza's, beer, salads, soups and a few other and limited random items. On a recent trip through Hood River, myfriend and I stopped for a local brew and a bite to eat. The Double Mountain Brewery popped up on YELP! and so we gave it a go. The reviews were mostly spot on. The atmosphere was comfy and laid back; the crew was quick and friendly. We had read that the pizzas were faboo, so we tried one. We had the Sausage, mushroom, and onion pizza on the recommendation of other patrons and brewmasters. The Viande sausage was as good as everyone described. It was well seasoned and had perfect texture. I had a pint of the Kolsch and my hop-loving pal had the Hop Lava. Both of us were quite pleased with our selection. I usually try the Kolsch whenever we hit a new brewery - it's the cheese pizza of beers, approachable and mellow; a safe choice for those of us with a more laidback palate. The DMB Kolsch was smooth and refreshing, a very drinkable beer...I could've easy had 3...or 10... We'll definitely be going back to the DMB the next time we go to Hood River. Their TRUFFLE SHUFFLE PIZZA and KOLSCH (light german ale house brew) turned out to be the best things I had on my trip to Oregon. The pizza crust was excellent. No doughy, under-cooked crusts served here! It was a white pie with mozzarella, crumbled goat cheese, spring onion and white-truffle-oil-marinated portobello mushrooms. I added chilli flakes and some oregano and IT WAS THE INCREDIBLE! We also had the classic MARGHERITA PIZZA which also perfect. Although we went nuts on the Truffle Shuffle here. The KOLSCH was a delicious ale but pretty potent, so beware! And as for the place, I personally loved the vibe. Nice crowd, music and an interesting decor. The service was also good. They are really putting out some great beer, most I have had at other locations but was able to try a few directly at the tap room on a recent trip up the gorge. They had one on cask through a traditional English pump, today they had their Vaporizer which I have had before, but on cask it was creamy, smooth, and had a milky thick foam head. I also got to try the Black Irish Stout which I have also had in bottles before, but they had it on nitro here which gave it an entirely different complexity, creaminess, and fuller mouth feel.. Just visited Double Mountain and had a sublime experience due in large part to our server, Phineas. The food was good - my party ordered two pizzas and one sandwich, all delish, as was the beer. While placing our drink orders I mentioned to my wife that I was having difficulty getting my right leg comfortable due to a persistent knee issue. While not intended, Phineas overheard and immediately took it upon himself to offer me an ice bag. That was an amazing gesture and matches or tops any service I've ever had. Anywhere. Anytime. Another day, another pizza. A nice hike in the gorge (Washington side for those of you playing at home) called for a nice beer in, well somewhere that will serve you a beer. We weren't too far from Hood River so Hood River is where we stopped. I had never been to Double Mountain before, but I've liked their beers and after going directly to the source, I like their beers even more. I ordered the Spicy Brown Ale because i like my beers spicy and I like them brown. That was a no brainer. You could smell the spices coming off of this beer. I smelled cinnamon and maybe some nutmeg. I could be wrong. Either way it is a good beer. My friend and I decided to split a pizza because apparently pizza is the only thing I am allowed to eat these days. Strenuous hike. Burned off a bunch of calories. Why not just put those bad boys back on whilst eating a pizza? We ordered the Jersey pie because I'm from Jersey. Ok, we didn't order it because I'm from Jersey. We ordered it because it sounded damn good. Hot capicola, provolone & Mama Lil's marinated peppers ($18). It did not remind me of eating pizza back in Jersey. It reminded me of eating pizza in Hood River which is what we were doing if you had been paying attention. Tomorrow is another day. I won't be eating pizza tomorrow. If you love IPAs, this place is totally for you. We stopped in for lunch as we were driving through the area on recomdations of some friends. We ordered salami and mushroom pizza. I wasn't too impressed with the pizza and ive definitely had better. The toppings were nice, but the only flavor I got was the taste of the burnt edges and the bottom of the pizza tasted like they needed to clean their oven. Unfortunately those flavors consumed all flavor of the pizza and didn't make it very tasty. We were a little embarrassed to say anything because everyone seemed to be locals and would probably have killed us. ;) We also ordered a few different IPAs. Really good. If I lived in Hood River I'd be a fixture here. I was super excited when this place first opened. GOOD beer in Hood River. The place was tiny though, and, due to being so awesome, always packed. They've since expanded--quite dramatically--and you know what? It's still always packed! That's a good problem to have for a brewery and pub, and that's the only 'rub' with this place. If you come out on a nice day--especially, God forbid, on a weekend--it can be hard to even get a table. The beer is quite good. There have been more recent entries to the Oregon craft brew scene that have caused my attention to drift from Double Mountain's offerings. But then Molten Lava happened. Double IPA madness! Wow! It's awesome! I also have to say that their Kreik offerings are pretty spectacular as well. The food menu is pretty limited. Mezza platter, assorted sandwiches (meatball sub is yummy), and pizza. But the pizza here is really pretty darn good--especially for the PNW. If you can get a seat outside on a summer day, you are truly blessed by the hop gods. Really impressive pizza and beer offerings. Based on that alone this would be a 4 star restaurant. It's so hip, it's cool. If you can hear the big uh-hem in my tone. On weekend evenings you should anticipate a 1 hour wait for seats and an additional 1 hour for pizza. Yeah, that's a total of 2 hour wait for your food. That is not necessarily bad, just plan for it. First time there we just went to the bar, and had almost no interaction with servers. Second time, we were told 2 hour wait. Pass. Third time great pizza and well, let's just say we experienced great pizza and a fantastic service recovery by the bar manager. Will we return? The beer is amazing! Everything I have tried I have liked and this includes probably 6 different beers. The people who work there are super friendly and always offering tastings if you want to try something new without getting a whole pint. I LOVE the pizza there! It is cooked to perfection. Thin crust style. The place is often crowded but after you order a beer and some food you usually can find a seat in about ten minutes. The growlers are only $16 for the first time and $11 for a re-fill. This is my new favorite spot in Hood River. I highly recommend it!! read more

I had two very distinctive brews while there: The Devil's Kitchen, which was a very potent, but smooth and fruity ale that went great with a chicken sammich. Then I turned to a Crag Rat Porter, which was really a dark ale, so my taste buds were longing for the semi-sweet and bitter taste of a micro porter but it was not to be. I stopped in after a disappointing day (of missing a rafting trip) hoping this place that was highly reviewed and recommended by people along our way to Hood River that it would boost our morale. I had a great sour beer and my girlfriend had their house made Root Beer. The top ranked pizza here is their truffle pizza. Well, I had to wait about an hour and ten minutes for it. I asked about it maybe 40 minutes in -- with which the server said he just saw it pop into the oven. Okay.... Kept waiting, Kept waiting. Finally the server apologizes about an hour in and says something happened to our pizza. He did comp our drinks though, so I appreciate the apology. However, I wished there was more transparency when I checked on my food 40 minutes-- instead of telling me that it's about to come out. The pizza was whatever though, drizzled in a heavy amount of truffle oil. Nothing really special, and it's something you can find almost everywhere in California. Just had the opportunity to stop in at this wonderful pub with my wife for lunch and a few beverages. Maybe it's because it's midweek during a quieter time in Hood River, but I think not; exceptional service and great pizza! It's fresh hop season in the Northwest, and Double Mountain still had several examples; all beautiful examples of what's available to breweries within a few hours of hop growers. The tap list is extensive and all excellent. My favorite was the sole cask offering, a version of "Hop Lava" brewed with Nelson Sauvin and Azzaca hops; spicy yet smooth; get it while it lasts. I think folks that arrive at small town pubs on weekends need to be a bit more understanding about the volume these pubs do, and they get stretched a bit thin; show a bit of patience and understanding, and you'll be rewarded with a very pleasant experience. The beer here is really good but the pizza is...expensive. The pizza is good too, don't get me wrong. You even get your own personal pallets of herbs/spices/cheese to sprinkle on it. The problem: there is only one size of pizza. So if you roll in solo...you can't get a "small" or anything. Most pizzas are in the $16-18 range which is pretty stiff for pizza. It's in the style of some town in Connecticut that allegedly is the "pizza capital of the world" (I forget the name, sorry East-Coasters crucify me later), I don't know much about pizza, I'm from Florida. Despite the price it still was a pretty solid pie. Ok, let's get back to the real reason you should be coming here: the beer. The beer here is very good, and the place almost always has a handful of brews that are extremely challenging to procure in Portland or...well...anywhere but the brewery. The two I had were: Devil's Kriek: a 8% abv (!) sour ale made with local cherries and Killer Green: a fresh-hop IPA. Both were quite good. Double Mountain also gives you "real" pints, so you're looking at a solid 20 ounces of beer here kids. Be careful if you're stopping in here on the way into Portland, you've still got an hour of highway between you and home. I came here after a day of hiking on W'yeast, so...they hit a bit harder than usual. I also dug the atmosphere here, really laid back with red Christmas-tree-esque lights strewn about. The bartender was playing Bob Dylan tunes on his iPod and rocking the eff out. I'd much rather hang here than that "other" brewery in town (which is worth visiting too, no hard feelings), and if I lived in Hood River, I would be a fixture here. read more

Woo! Great pizza and beer in Hood River. From the great Kolsch to the west coast IPA, all beers were consistently good. The pizza was absolutely fantastic. The crust was thin and crunchy on the bottom and chewy in the middle. With a nice char on the crust, it disappeared all too quickly. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable: happy to answer lots of "beer geek" questions about how they brew, what ingredients they use, etc. Double Mountain should be your go-to pizza and beer place in Hood River. read more

I must add my five stars to all the others - this is some of the best beer I've ever had the pleasure of drinking! I've been here several times and have never been let down by anything. The service, the ambiance, the food, and especially the beer has always been top notch. I'm especially fond of their Devil's Kriek & Rainier Kriek, Belgian-style sour ales made with Bing and Rainier cherries. Both are unique and exceptionally complex and robust, not to mention super sour! if you love sour beer you must visit just to try these two outstanding brews. We were also thrilled by the Ferocious Five, a burbon barrel brown ale. It was absolutely stupendous; they say it was aged in Kentucky burbon barels for a year, and it sure tasted like it. Outstanding! Also not to be missed is the Vaporizer, a delicious dry hopped pale ale; the highly drinkable and immensely enjoyable IRA (India Red Ale), and the assertive but not too agressive Hop Lava. Don't miss it if you love floral, citrusy, resinous northwest hops. Yum! And I must mention that they do serve great food here, too, most notably their hand crafted, thin crust, brick oven pizzas. We were able to tear ourselves away from the beer just long enough to devour an incredible wedge of one of these beauties; it was great to eat fresh, but just as yummy when we finished the remainder much later that evening. The dough is crafted in house, covered with fresh & unique toppings, then crisped to perfection in their brick-lined oven. Don't miss ordering a pie here at least once! Our favorite pizza is the Truffle Shuffle ($20 for 16") White sauce, crumbled goat cheese, and portabella mushrooms marinated in white truffle oil. I normally stop at Full Sail when passing through Hood River. They've got a great beer selection and their menu is excellent. Add that to the view of the Gorge and it's a great place to stop. If you haven't been there, I would recommend going there first for the experience. That said, I believe Double Mountain has better beer. I am mainly speaking of their selection of IPAs. Hop Lava and Pale Death were excellent... But if I had to choose I would go with Pale Death. If I was writing them on establishment alone I would go with three stars, but their beer gives them an additional star. Finally, their menu was solid. I had the meatball sandwich and it was delicious. Again, Full Sail has more options and I have never been anything but thoroughly impressed by their food. read more

I'll be brief. Super fun and friendly staff. Great beer, fantastic menu, and a great venue. We were greeted quickly, sat immediately, and the overall experience was fast and fun.
