Well flavoured curries & they don't skimp on the heat! amazing My go-to dish, lamb vindaloo, in which I will always judge an Indian restaurant...A+ Also tried their 5 star hot curry - you'll feel that for days if that's your thing! OK, I tried it & paid for it, but would I do it again? Yes It's not for the faint hearted, when they say 5 star, its 5 star!! ~ Happy spice lover

High turn around of staff and chefs Accordingly, this place is some what cursed by this locations previous owners, People assume it's associated to previous owners. The current owner Jaqdish has been here for over 12 months He is the cook and owner of this establishment. The food is fantastic and best of all they will cater for special needs. Such as I prefer meat curries without meat.... I like the sauce. He understands this and caters for me. I also don't like Ghee/butter on my Naan. The cleanliness of the place is of a high standard. I've entered their kitchen and its spotless. Tables are white paper covered, with white table clothes underneath. Cutlery is standard fare. They are quick to change your plates and cutlery after entrees. The menu offers up all the classics. IMO their Dosa are the best in Footscray. Biriyani is also very good, the sambar (sauce) it comes with is great too. Cheap beer (a jug of Haywards beer cost $8) . Thats right $8 for a jug of beer. I am astounded by this! Variant on what's available (Haywards, Kingfisher, Carlton draught, or the new and exclusive Maharajahs) by their definition a jug is 3 bottles of beer. Oddly and somewhat a little unpleasing the jug is plastic .. I highly recommend this place. Cheap Clean Friendly Quick turnaround I've been coming here since they opened. The owners name is Jaqdish.

The only word I can say about this place was 'DISAPPOINTING". Being a thai cuisine lover, we went…read moreto try this new place. We ordered chicken dim sum for entree, bbq chicken noodles and a laksa. Bbq chicken noodle was average in taste, talking about laksa it wasnt anywhere close to what it should be. Plus they did not even have proper soup spoon cutlery for it. But to the surprise there was no sign of entree and we were halfway done on our mains. When we asked for entree, the server told us in return that we should have told them to get the entree first. WHAT CRAP, doesnt that what entree means?? We also took pad thai as takeaway which was equally bad. All in all a very bad experience and would not ho back here again.

I've had to change my attitude, as now I can't say that due to Bala Da Dhaba being an exceptionally good restaurant. The food is truly amazing and I was surprised at how much I could eat. I don't know a lot about Indian cuisine but I was very impressed with the vegetarian dishes such as the Muttar Paneer and the Malai Kofta. The waiters are very friendly there where it is a great place to go with a few people to share some of the delectable dishes with a BYO beer or wine. My only criticism is that the setting is very formal and when I'm not in that mood I now get the food to go and head next door to the Lyrebird Lounge, where I can sit in the courtyard on a balmy night and listen to some live music. Either way, the food is where Bala is a winner and will most definitely satisfy the curry lovers but may turn a few, just like it did with me.

But it's the same management and the same menu, so it's not like it's a total loss. And it's a good menu. Actually, it's a pretty average menu - standard Indian food, more or less. But it's done really well. Seriously, it's the best Indian I've had in Melbourne. Only complaint I can raise about them is that the in-house portions tend to be a bit smaller than the takeaway.

We have not had a single bad meal or disappointment to date. Our favourites include butter chicken of course, chicken tikka masala, chicken bhuna, vegetarian paneer curries, garlic and cheese naan, pommy naan and onion kulcha. All curries come with rice with no additional charge which is a nice change from all of the other indian or Asian restaurants in the area which I think is a definite pro. Service is fantastic, wait staff are very attentive and friendly, and food doesn't take too long to be made. Will continue to return! Thanks Indian Hub :D

Maybe it's because their music played the same song on repeat for our whole meal? Seriously, we asked and were told there was some kind of issue. If that's the case, turn it off immediately. There's multiple menus and oddly, the takeout menu is significantly cheaper than dining in. There's also a few items solely on the takeout menu. Like the curry lovers deal ($49.50 AUD for 2). - Pappadum - they brought out two complimentary pieces. - Lamb biriyani (#33) ($18.00 AUD) - basmati rice tossed with lamb and veggies. We asked for a spice level of 6/10; this was nice. I could probably do another level or two but I was recovering from being sick the last few days. The lamb was tender and overall, the dish was a good portion size. - Alu gobhi mutter (#62) ($16.00 AUD) - cauliflower, potato and peas in tomato curry. This one is dairy free. Again, they asked about spice level and it was perfect. Another tasty dish. - Naan (#73) ($2.90 AUD) - standard naan. - Garlic naan (#75) ($2.80 AUD) - I liked the garlic much more than the plain one. It's $3.50 AUD on the menu but we got charged less. Unimpressed that they charge $1.00 AUD for a small takeout container. There's also a 2% service charge if you pay with card. 3.5 stars
