I had a claim with Donegal where my husband & I had went to the movie theater and when we walked out around 11:00 at night my husband's car was nowhere to be found. His car being stolen was really one of the worst experiences; we had a lot of items from our wedding in the trunk, the keys to my car, and my other belongings like my license. I called in the claim as soon as the police were there and the next morning an adjustor reached out to me and had us ready with a rental reservation immediately. She explained to us the process very clearly, they allowed the police two weeks to complete their investigation and if it was not found they would total out the vehicle and work with our financing company to work out the details. We were extremely nervous because we had a $1000 deductible and we would have to replace my other items like the keys to my car (which are so expensive now - ridiculous). Turns out - we had a package on our policy that would waive our deductible if we had a total loss AND they provided up to $300 for personal property coverage. The only thing we paid for on our claim was the $50 deposit on our rental car which we got back. I paid out of pocket for my keys and just turned in my receipt and they sent us a check back. Thankfully, the police ended up finding our car so we did not have to go through the rest of the process, but with as efficient and responsive as our claims adjustor, Jamie, was I don't think we would have had any problems. She was very communicative and answered all of our questions in an extremely timely manner. They had told me it would be within 24 hours that an adjustor would call us, but it was literally maybe only 10 hours considering how late we turned ours in. I'd say we saw a pretty general increase on our policy when it renewed, but we ended up buying a house so the discount brought our policy way lower. We chose them for our home as well because we were so happy with the coverages we learned about with our auto and the rates were so fair that I couldn't imagine looking anywhere else. read more

Horrible insurance company that needs to be investigated! They insured someone who made an illegal pass and hit my car, which I have dash cam footage of from both front and back proving the incident. Yet, they have the audacity to say that I'm at fault due to negligence, rude and dismissive customer service....You will never recover claim coverage! Horrible, horrible! read more

I had the worst experience dealing with this insurance company. The staff is very rude. There is no customer service. There was no sympathy, nor empathy. A workers comp rep should be more kind. Danielle Schaefer and her boss are terrible. Her supervisor cut me off every time I tried to talk and made me feel like my claims. And concerns was a waste of her time. My worker barely responded to my messages, and when she did, they were very short. And cold. Worst insurance company. read more

Very Poor Insurance Company. My wife was minding her own business while driving down the road and was rear-ended by a client of Donegal Insurance. The paid to replace her tailgate and bumper, but said they will not pay full cost of replacement for a muffler, which was written into the estimate. They claim that the muffler was used ( a 2020 Honda CRV) and said that the would not pay to replace it. Very poor policy and logic! The tailgate and bumper were used as well. In the end the save a little north of $70.00. Absolutely unbelievable. Please do not purchase this insurance and if you happen to be in an accident with one of their clients. make sure you seek counsel ask soon as possible. read more

Ias a family with a teen now adult, we have had Donegal for 7 years never a claim. I was involved in a not at fault accident and call my agent, Byrd Ins. They informed me not to make a claim under threat of rate hike or being canceled; so I went through the at fault company. Then, due to not agreeing on payout, I contacted Donegal. Then I am told, "Sorry, you had to contact us from day one." I explained their agent told me not to, they explained, "Sorry, we are not going to help." this is a "Gotcha company!" if you use them, read and completely understand the contract and DO NOT listen to the agents, they steer you wrong! read more

One of their insured hit me head on, they were cited. I had to go to the hospital with neck injury. This insurance company never contacted me at all. My insurance had to approve medical and a rental after a week. They then made contact back. They sent an adjuster out and then offer wholesale for my vehicle. Get hit by their clients better just call an attorney. read more

Professional needs improvement and communication. They changed my insurance in the middle of the month without notifying me, after I canceled they still took money out of my account, the agent I was working with would never answer phone calls, emails or text and when I brought this up with corporate they pretty much said oh well there is nothing we can do. I would not get insurance with this group. read more

I've had this insurance company for my home and auto for the past 8 years. They have been very consistent with their pricing since the day we took out our policy. We had a home claim last year and all was handled quickly and efficiently. Overall we've been very happy with Donegal. read more

Run away from this company! Just awful... Our car was parked legally and unattended and was hit by a person who has Donegal Insurance. Both the passenger door and rear door had dents because of the impact. They sent someone out to take pics. The adjuster said that she did not see dents in the pic (?) and therefore, just paid a very, very minimal amount . Our car is old, so we are not going to aggravate ourselves any further, but they are awful. Bad customer service too! Do yourself a favor, and look at a different insurance company - glad I don't have it read more

Everyone needs to file a complaint with Navi and insurance commissioner of the state. Most states have forms that are very simple to navigate. Small claims court is also fairly simple. This company is clearly not paying claims and hoping people will just go away. Waiting on payment from claim in August where I was stopped. There was a police report clearly stating fault of their driver as well as a witness. They are stating they need to speak with police officer. Yeah that was 6 months ago. You really have to make them suffer through lawsuits and complaints. Do not mitigate your damages in any way because they will not help you. It's fine if you have full coverage and your own company can surrogate. You are only out your deductible for a while. I suggest lots of medical treatments and formal written complaints. read more

Our roof was damaged in a wind storm. Took Donegal 4 months to pay the claim and they fought us every step of the way. In the end, they shorted us what was owed, but we were tired of fighting. This is a bad outfit. Steer clear of them when buying homeowner's insurance. read more

If there were negative stars, I would use them. I don't use their insurance, but I was on the receiving end of their service after another driver they cover swerved into my lane and damaged my drivers side rearview mirror. They had me spend my own time to take it to get an estimate, then cut that estimate to 1/4 of what the work called for, and used some junk eBay part as proof of what the part would cost. The amount wasn't even worth the time I spent addressing the situation, never mind the part. Unbelievably poor service. I hope I NEVER have to deal with them again, and I truly pity anyone who does. read more

Horrible insurance company with sooo many clauses like the one below where they can get out of covering you. Also, they have a horrible history of not covering the insured. The applicant or any other occupant of the residence does not own a dog which consists in whole or IN PART the following breeds: Chow, Mastiff, Presa Canario, Ovcharka, Fila Brasiliero, Cane Corso, Staffordshire terrier, Wolf Hybrid, Tosa Inu, Pit Bull, Rottweiler, Akita, Doberman, or Beauceron read more

These folks canceled my policy unbeknownst to me. This error has cost my family $8500 I pay my premium in full every year for approximately $800. Mid-year I requested an upgrade to a full tort premium for additional ~ $100. They sent me one bill while I was out of town taking care of a sick family member. A few weeks later they allegedly canceled my policy returning my premium balance of $331 (more than enough to cover the amount owed). I never received that letter with as evidenced by the fact that I never cashed the returned premium check! My policy was canceled unbeknownst to me for more than 3 months putting my family at tremendous risk. Sadly I got into an accident with my daughter in the car which is how I discovered that I had no insurance. the repairs to my car cost $8500. Luckily we did not have medical bills. We had to refinance our home. It was clearly an oversight and a terrible job by my broker to reach out and let me know the policy was being canceled (they claimed to have left one voice mail message - (Don't use Jack Bonus Agency in Zelienople, PA), After 10 years of paying premium policy with NO claims they simply weren't there for me. They could have reinstated it retroactively (considering they still had the money for my full premium). My broker actually explained how that claim would have an impact on their bonuses. seriously. I had to remortgage my house and he's telling me about his bonus. I did not know requesting to upgrade my insurance would cause it to cancel. No one actively reached out to say... hey that's weird she still has her homeowners here and she never cashed the check we sent... maybe we should call her and speak to her or send a certified letter. I do not recommend this company. Not worth the risk read more

I was hit by a driver whose company was insured by this company. My driver's door was smashed in, unable to open and my window rolled down but not all the way up, so it was cracked open the whole time. This company did not take my accident serious. The agent assigned to my case dragged her feet in calling the driver to get a statement or wouldn't answer the phone when he'd call back. It took 2 weeks for them to get a statement and that was after I called her everyday to see if she had reached the driver. Afterwards, they reviewed the damages, accepted full liability, and just sent the check without directing me to where to get my car repaired, just with helping me get the rental, and they did that via email. When I asked to speak with a supervisor, he was very rude, didn't care that the body shop he recommended as reliable didn't work with their company, and wouldn't recommend a list of places that did work with them. He stated that it was "illegal for them to steer me toward a specific shop" which is absolutely incorrect. Instead, told me to call around, myself, and see who would work with their company or send the check back and go thru my own insurance. When my insurance agent spoke with them, she said the exact same thing; they're rude, insolent, unhelpful and truly did not care about my stresses or how inconvenienced I was by my accident. I was forced to use my own policy and indeed send their money back, 2 1/2 weeks later. If you get in an accident with someone insured by this company, just give your statement and go thru your own insurance. These people don't know what they're doing and don't care at all. If I could give them zero stars, I would. read more

Their insured ran a red light, hit my wife's vehicle with our children inside and claim that we are 10% negligible for the accident. Police report clearly states Donegal's insured driver ran a red light, also confirmed by their driver's daughter and a witness who stopped. The insured motorist or the company never once apologized. We thought this was pretty cut and dry, their insured ran a red light and hit our vehicle. Representative Adam and Supervisor Gus claim that we were partially at fault. No integrity what so ever, absolute joke. Please use your local insurance agent instead of giving business to a bunch of crooks. read more

This has got to be the worst insurance company in the country. I had a claim on my business four months after I was paid in full. The customer claims I scratched her granite counter top which I did not. The company investigated and as soon as she said I ll sue The company paid her. I replaced the original contractor which she would not identify. He walked off or was fired. The company did not do a thorough investigation and I was dropped. I would have turned in a claim if I damaged the said countertop. I would advise contractors not to purchase insurance from donegal. Robert M Karch Urban Construction llc read more

I have recently been injured at work. The owner of my company is Larry scheib, and hes a great boss and wonderful friend. Donegal insurance is his workmens compensation provider. The claims representative, Lori Doremus, has maintained horrible communication with us. She has been deceptive in her dialogues with my employer and myself. She has denied my claim, even though my employer acknowledges my injuries happened at work. If you care about your employees like my boss does, find a better insurer. They have no shame at this company. Thank you read more

I was stopped at a red light, and was rear ended, at full speed, by a man on his phone. June 5th, 2019. I saw him coming, but could do nothing about it. He was found to be 100% at fault for this accident. Two of my children were in the car with me when we were hit, all 3 of us were injured. He did over $4,000 worth of damage to my SUV with a small car. Unfortunately, the vehicle he was driving was insured through Donegal Insurance group. Correspondence is specifically addressed from Marietta, PA. The first Agent we dealt with (Carol) was extremely rude and uncooperative. She wouldn't even work nicely with my Insurance agent. The adjuster they used (Joe) was more professional, but missed some damage upon initial inspection and had to come back. Carol did not communicate well with Joe, myself or my agent. She told me that there were things Joe hadn't sent her, and Joe informed me that he had submitted everything to Carol. Body damage was repaired, but the mechanical problems that arose the first time I drove it still have not been fully fixed, even though Donegal was to be held responsible for ALL damages incurred, as their driver was at fault. A few months in, we were switched to a new Agent (Denise) who stated that Carol was no longer there. Denise has also been quite rude, even hanging up on me at one point. Fast forward to today, and the medical bills total at discharge is $8,593, missing an x-ray and not taking into consideration that now I have to see my chiropractor 2-3 times more often than before the accident just to maintain a "survivable" pain level. Their settlement offer? $5,916 to be paid to medical providers, and $5,200 to be paid to me (and my ex-husband, who has ZERO physical or legal custody at all) for bodily injury to me and my kids. That leaves me roughly $2,500 after the rest of the medical bills are paid. It has been an absolute NIGHTMARE. Every single step of the way. No professionalism, No code of Ethics, ZERO compassion or empathy. Absolutely despicable. read more

I cancelled my auto insurance with them, as my rate was going was going to increase by around $500 for the year, when I had no incidents at all. I found a company who was going to save me $800 a year, with much better coverage. After I cancelled my policy, (before my new year would have started with them), they still took it upon themselves to deduct an unauthorized monthly payment, of $253.xx from my checking account. We'll see how long it takes to get my money back, it shouldn't take them 7 business days when they take it out in an instant. They had no right to touch anything since I was no longer insured under them. My bank has blocked them from making any further deductions from my account. And the current one is being disputed. read more

This company is a rip off. They gave us a quote for home owners insurance and even though the loan never closed, they claimed they insured us for a month and billed us. I tried explaining the loan never closed, that the policy was never put into place but no one cared. All they cared about was their payment. Do not ever use this company, if I could rate it a zero, I would, they don't even deserve the one star I was forced to give. read more

Worst claims adjuster ever!! (Jenny Doherty) says my roof leak is due to poor craftsmanship, I guess it takes 15 years for poor installation to start leaking and nothing to due with hail damage and biblical rain!! Stay away.....very far away from this company! read more

Do not choose Donegal! I was rear ended by another Donegal Insured party and even though the accident was not my fault I was still required to pay the full deductible. Because the other driver was also insured by Donegal they deemed she was not responsible for the accident even though at the scene she clearly stated that she hydroplaned into my vehicle. She was bumped from behind after she hit me and then changed her story to say that she was pushed into me. Not true! My guess is that Donegal chose this route because it saved them money overall. I am canceling both my homeowner's policy and auto policy and taking my business elsewhere. The agent was completely unsympathetic to the fact that I sustained major damage to my car through no fault of my own and did not believe my version of the incident. Always call the cops. Having to pay my deductible out of pocket just adds insult to injury. The worst!! read more
