It's not a fancy restaurant, but that does not matter if the place makes great food. Being from L A where Mexican food is very excellent and can be found on every other block I always had trouble finding a place like this in Oregon. Most of the best Mexican food in L A comes from these little Mom and Pop not so fancy take out places, or food trucks. Chuy's reminds me of places like those found in southern California. The combo plates, burritos, & tacos are all very authentic Mexican home cooked food, and at a very reasonable price. You can always get a great meal that tastes excellent every time with out going broke. There are a few Mom and Pop Mexican food places in the local Gresham area that are pretty good, but none are as great as what you'll find at Chuy's. It's kind of hard to complain about this place. We eat here quite often. We normally eat in house. However today I phone in a takeout order and paid over the phone with my credit card. The food in my opinion is usually good. Today their carnitas plate tasted like scraping of the pan. It was stringy balled up. My opinion it should not have been served. My next complaint is being charged $1.00 for them to take my order over the phone and charge it to my credit card. I would have walked in and still used my card. I thought it was odd. My final point is really troubling to me. I specifically asked for extra green sauce. I even called back a second time to make sure it was in the order. I live in Damascus so when finding out the dinner was sub par and the green sauce did not make it into the order and I was charged for them taking a phone in order. Chuy's Taco Shop is, by far, my favorite place to stop by for something to eat. Any time it's brought up in conversation, I instantly crave it. I just had a burrito there recently, and I'm already excited for my next one! I can't say enough great things about this place, so I'll just give you the highlights. The food is amazing; when the food is made so well, it's obvious why I can't get enough! And the sauces are incredible. The sauces are all made in the restaurant and they all compliment the food so well. I love the weekend salsas, the avacado and green sauces are true masterpieces, and if you like spicing things up, their habanero sauce is totally worth the burn. To go along with great food, there are great people. Everyone there is so friendly and fun to talk to, sometimes I even forget I'm in a restaurant and not at a friend's house. It's always a great experience every time I'm there. I've even literally verbally said I feel like I'm cheating on Chuy's when I find myself at other restaurants. I'll say, "man, I wish this was Chuy's." Seriously, this place is so amazing, I feel guilty eating anywhere else. Well my Saturday started off good and I went to Americas tires in Gresham and dropped my truck and it was 12 noon and the hunger pains started and my lips smacking for a good lunch, So looking across the big parking lot I saw don Ladis taco shop and I thought how yummy and I love Mexican food and its got to be better than taco bell and not knowing it was going to be my final meal at this place, So I waited in line and looked across the the tables at all the people eating there food and it looked good but I must have been blind that day, so the nice lady taking my order and calling me honey and very friendly took my order and I ordered a taco salad with onions with shredded beef and no shell and I noticed they had a condiment bar with vegetables and different mild to hot sauces so I took there cups and filed them up with each one and thought it would be good on my salad, So they called my name and I picked up my salad and the first thing I noticed was the whole plate was full of water and I stared eating and it was horrible and the meat had no taste at all and the guacamole was even bland, So I started dumping cups of hot sauce on the salad thinking my taste buds would change due to the heat but that didn't happen it got worse for me, It was one of the worst salads that I have ever ate and the only reason I am giving this establishment a 2 star is because the girl at the front counter had good customer service, So inconclusion stay away from this place and the reviews were middle of the road and I got to think these were from the Mexican pallet of not so good taste. read more

I had heard a whisper in the streets about dank fish tacos at even danker prices. After carefully ironing both my pants AND shirt in preparation for work at 3pm I swiftly dashed into my vehicle and turned the on the engine. At once my ears were filled with the beautiful sound of my Vtech engine. After heading out I drove by a white male on a bicicle and waved "hello" as he waved back with brotherly approval, and later stopped at a red light on Birdsdale St and thought to myself "why does Lil Wayne sound like that?". Moments later, the light was green and I felt the spring breeze slipping in through my cracked windows. I drove by a man walking his dog and upon reaching the parking lot I was greeted by a welcoming spot right by the front door. I slowly opened the door as I crinkled my brow at the blinding sun. I felt the wind spirits tickle my skin as I looked at the front door, knowing at once, this was my destiny. Upon entry I was greeted by an American woman, and it only went downhill from there. I immediatley ordered 3 of their finest fish tacos to-go and sat down to wait in a booth. I sat there, marveling at their beutifully painted walls. They were all brightly colored and offered the most delightfully cheery atmosphere. After staring at the walls for a few minutes I began to parooze the menus, and it came to my attention that they did not have SPAGHETTI on the menu which is the reason I will not give all 5 stars. Upon receiving my order I quickly scurried out the door and ate my tacos in the parking lot to ensure my safety from scavengers. The fish tacos had a lovely crunchyness too them and gavr me oral orgasms with every bite. I would reccomend them as a family-friendly restaurant. read more

Their prices have gone up since they changed the name from Chuy's and from when they were a Muchas Gracias back in the day, but their food is still good for the most part. Their $5 daily specials are the best bang for your buck. They switched from the disposable plates to oval ceramic plates, so the portions are bigger from the last time I ate there. I would recommend their al pastor and carnitas. The carne asada and pollo asado are good options as well. They also have more salsa choices and drink choices than before as well. I didn't realize how popular the restaurant has become, but it's good to see them be a mainstay in Gresham. Is it authentic Mexican food? Probably not, but it's a hell of a lot cheaper than La Caretta or El Indio and a lot better than Taco Bell. read more

I've been coming here for a few months now had 1 hiccup (overcharged)but nothing like I experienced today . I know the faces of staff there pretty well , but spotted a new Caucasian lady with blonde hair at the front . I Went in , ordered my food , went to pay with my card and the lady said my card was declined . I've worked with registers and payment processors before , so I know a receipt is supposed to pop up saying declined on it , this did not . I told her to please run the card again as I had just checked my balance and had sufficient funds , she looked as if she could care less , ran it again and said sorry declined then went on multitasking as if I wasn't standing there . I had cash on me so I paid with cash . I left the restaurant had to go to my bank just for them to tell me , there's nothing wrong with my account or card . So you can imagine my frustration of standing there embarrassed in a restaurant , and wasting time with my bank . I went on to purchase lunch from another place, using the same card with no problem . Although the food is decent and reasonable priced , I can't help but to rate this as poor as I did . When I called to let them know that my card was fine and that maybe they have an issue with their card processor the girl that answered apologized , but really nothing was done to rectify the situation (not sure what could have been done , as I won't be going back ) . I feel either their is something wrong with the payment processor or the Caucasian woman working it . Either way, the food isn't that great for me to return to an establishment where that type of service is given to customers . read more

Rude customer service. I ordered carne plate and it was all gristle and it was cold. When I tried to ask them about it they got an attitude about it. I've gone here for years and really was a big fan till the last couple of times I've gone through they have been awful. Also seen how they treat their employees and it sucks. My SO and I decided to try this place after one of our friends recommended it saying that it was inexpensive, yet definitely worth the price. After ordering the Carne Asada burrito and my SO ordering the Shredded Beef burrito for only $8 total, we definitely agree with our friend. The time for us to get our order was quick and neither of us could finish our burritos; we were happily full. I've been coming to the location since the owners were apart of the Muchas Gracius corporation. The owners are wonderful people. I have eaten here probably twice a week on average since they opened. Always had great food and wonderful service. They then changed to Chuy's and still it was very good and far above the other Mexican restaurants in the area. Not long after the conversion to Don Ladis (6 months ago) the service, the cleanliness and the ability to pay attention to detail started to slip. Not sure if they are having trouble hiring good workers, but something has changed. I have food allergies and in the past they always made sure to not make any mistakes that could lead to severe stomach and allergic reactions. I have wasted $100's of dollars in the last 6 months on food that I could not eat because of mistakes. I feel really bad because I really like the people at Don Ladis, but it is not what it used to be. Not sure if I will return. read more

so we moved here from Long Beach Cali where there is a Mexican food truck, restaurant, shack, cart, vendor, you name it on every block. We made it our mission to try them all and after moving to Oregon we were disappointed in our quest to find a place that we could even call close to competition. I thought Portland was a place for foodies? not in this department. there are many places to get Mexican food for sure, but there is always something lacking. like the baggy with pickled veggies and turnips, with garnishes of cilantro, onions, and peppers. yes, I said baggy.even one without a zipper. well we almost gave up and thought we'd have to settle for sub par standards at Chuy's. Well maybe we were just plain ignorant and didn't know what we were talking about?? I thought living in San Pedro for many years also gave me a points of experience with Mexican food but I was happily humbled. Chuy's is good.
