I tend to judge a Mexican restaurant by 2 things. If they pass the test, I'll become a loyal customer. Those 2 things are their taco shells and their Chile Verde. Chuy's serves authentic style mexican meals at a great value. We tried the California burrito a carnitas burrito and some lengua tacos. All were excellent especially the pork carnitas. Ingredients were fresh and flavorful. The service was great the girl at the counter was helpful and friendly. We'll be back for sure. read more

I have known about Chuys since they opened a year or some ago next to Dicks Sports, but frankly brushed it off as another strip mall taco shop catered to plump americans with poor taste buds ! Haha....but after looking at the reviews for the new Mojave that moved into my sorely missed 4th St. Brewing location, I figured I would look at the Chuys reveiws. To my surprise, nearly all of them were good. So I went there last night to give them a try and I must say I am glad I did. I am a die hard Mexican food fanatic and that is pretty much all I eat on a daily basis. I ordered the chile verde burrito and al pastor taco. Al pastor is a protected recipe secret of Mexico City and it is incredibly difficult to find it prepared right with the perfect balance of seasonings and "char / crisp" on the meat. Well Chuys did it just about as good as I have found in 15 years of searching. #1 is still up at the wagon in the 'Couv on 78th and St. Johns, but excellent job to Chuys. The salsa, brown hot and habanero were both very tasty as well. Taste wise, the chili verde was a bit covered up by the beans but was tender and juicy. I typically buy tacos for the first time as that way I can get the pure flavor profile. Service wise, I did not mind that it was a bit slow, that means they are preparing things to order and fresh. Anyway, forget the strip mall stigma, this place is very good and I will be back soon. I am reserving 4 stars for now, but after a few more visits a follow up review may yield a perfect 5. read more

The best in fast Mex food in Gresham. Customer service is their priority and even when it is busy, the food comes out fast. Clean dining room. Wish they had a larger TV and the volume is up during sporting season. They should use the extra lounge area as a lottery area. read more

We love Chuy's! The family that owns it are really nice and we always get great service and food. It is always really clean as well. Try their mini tacos, bacon burrito, and shredded beef tacos. Very inexpensive good Mexican food. My wife loved the fish taco, and she is picky about them. I had a carnitas burrito combo plate and loved it. I've been coming to this taco shop for almost 5 years and I've never once had a bad experience, their food is always yummy and inexpensive and satisfying. Their sauce bar has any kind of salsa you crave and bountiful limes, carrots, and radishes. I usually stick to the street tacos because they are my jam although on occasion I've ordered their $5 special of the day which is amazing as well! their beans tho are just like my grandma used to make which makes their bean burritos so yummy! Good news vegetarians: their beans and rice are both cooked vegetarian (no lard or chicken broth). You can get a cheap vegetarian burrito here that is authentic and delicious. Their salsas are very creative, so you should try several and see which you like best. Highly recommend. read more

my curiosity was peaked by the great review ratings here combined with low prices, so I went with my daughter. she ordered a chicken quisidilla, I got a carne asada burrito. the beef was in tiny pieces, too tough to chew. I broke 2 plastic forks trying to cut into my burrito, sending my daughter into fits of laughter. I have never come across such a tough wrap or tortilla or whatever they call it. daughter had similiar problem with quisidilla but was able to pick it up to eat. I tried that and liquid streamed down to my elbows. and the flavor? what flavor? I was too busy trying to get a bit to my mouth to notice. plastic forks, paper plates that you have ask for, get your own plasticware and drink in foam cups. and bus your own table, no waitress or table service at all. spacious rather inviting atmosphere, despite crumb-covered floor. the pepsi out of the machine was yummy lol, that is the 1 star. there are reasons the prices are so low. so now I know. won't be back. . read more

Mediocre Food and HEALTH risks of eating here. My husband called to say there was a new Mexican place to try in Gresham and he was going to get the food to go. He got the shredded burritos and I got the Fajitas. His food according to him was good, mine was nothing to brag about. They gave just enough sour cream and guacamole ( the guacamole was more like the kind you get at the store premade then fresh made) to make one fajita with, the chicken and beef chucks where bite size inside of nice big slices of meat like you get at most places. But the biggest reason I will never eat there again, was medium length BROWN HUMAN HAIR I found mixed in with my rice as I making my second fajita. I threw away what was left of the mediocre dinner and told my husband we not be eating there again. read more

Once you try their crispy shredded beef tacos, it's hard not to go back every few weeks and get them again. When I first started going to Don Ladis, I didn't notice crispy beef tacos were even on the menu, since the crisp shell tacos are listed separately from the long list of their delicious soft tacos. I love some of those too, like the shrimp and the fish taco. Currently however, I get two crispy shredded beef tacos about once a week. I take them home and have a glass of sangria with them. It's an amazing deal, 2 tacos for less than $5. I've never tried the rice or beans or any other items on the menu, since I can't pass up the shredded beef tacos ala carte just yet. read more

I grew up in Southern California so I KNOW Mexican food. Up until Chuy's open I would tell you there's no legitimate taco shop in the PNW. Now, oh man... I'm home. Chuy's has real crispy shell tacos with awesome shredded beef, not those funky prefab shells with ground chop, yuck! The best thing on the menu is the chile rellenos. I try the rellenos every time I go to a Mexican food joint as a baseline for how good the place is. Chuy's is seriously the best Mexican food in the Portland Metro area. read more

My new favorite taco shop! I love their beans. Their carne asada is also pretty good- doesn't beat Javier's in Nopo but it's close. I just wish they were open a bit later!
