The Jacksonville location opened roughly a year ago in the old Lupe's building on Highway. 79 across from the Tomato Bowl football stadium. Felix has done quite well overcoming the reputation, good or bad, that Lupe's had. I was not living in Jacksonville when Lupe's was open for business so I do not know exactly what they had for a reputation.
There are daily specials on a variety of dishes offered. There is a fully functional bar. Felix has recently purchased and installed a single-flavor ice cream freezer/dispenser. Many of the servers are below the legal drinking age which means a manager must serve the alcoholic beverages to patrons.
From the day Felix opened this restaurant, it seems he was experimenting with different chili recipes used for topping the enchiladas until he found one he liked. His new recipe has a kick to it. The chili topping is not really hot, just spicy.
Felix has a routine of visiting each table personally for such things as welcoming the patron to his establishment, or making sure they are enjoying their meals, or making sure they are being taken care of properly by the server assigned to each table. Felix is a very likable and personable person who will just stop by your table to laugh and joke or just shoot the breeze. Felix, himself, has been spending a majority of his time at his newest restaurant in neighboring Henderson, leaving another older man in charge of his flagship restaurant. Felix will come 'home" one day a week on Tuesdays, I think. The older man, I'm assuming is Felix's business partner, will also visit each table personally.
Access to the parking lot can be a little tricky. There is an incline from the street into the parking lot. Although no parking spaces are directly in the incline, the incline makes getting in and out of the parking lot a minor roller coaster ride. read more
