Before the karoke machine was turned on. The setting is spectacular - this is a large building right on the edge of the River Bann, so ask when you are booking for a window table and you'll have a stunning view as you eat and drink. The interior of the restaurant is just as impressive - a large, high ceiling room with a giant chandelier in the centre. So, what about the food? It certainly lives up to the setting. I would describe this as upmarket Chinese food rather than the kind of place to grab your Friday night sweet and sour. The prices reflect the setting and the quality and for special occasions I am more than happy to pay them. On our last visit I had satay chicken skewers and seaweed, both of which were top notch. I than had shredded chilli beef which I also loved, and the husband had king prawns in yellow bean sauce which I felt obliged to try and also really liked. We had side orders of special fried rice and noodles and I could have eaten either of these on their own. I was pleased to see that there is a tea time special menu at £9.95 for 3 courses which is outstanding value given the quality of food and the lovely service you get. Can't wait until the next time we go back.

I ended up in the Cathay Cuisine chinese by unhappy default one night. The restaurant I wanted to…read morego to was fully booked and so were the second, third and fourth on my list so it was this or a bag of crisps. Methinks the crisps would have been a better choice, especially a big chubby bag of McCoys. This little restaurant wasn't overly busy but sadly my pre-dinner drinks stopped the alarm bells that should have been ringing in my head. In we went and ordered and then looked around us. Should have done that in the reverse order. I know it's a cruel word but I keep coming back to grotty. Or shabby. A make over is badly needed. And one that will take more than 60 minutes. Having looked at the interior, we weren't overly hopeful about the food which was fortunate. The best description I can come up with is average. And oddly watery. We spared ourselved the ordeal of desert and made a run for it. Not one to go back to.

Terrible x3 = do not come here. We wanted to eat at Harry's Shack, but they were booked solid. So,…read moreour B&B host recommended Amici being so close and we wanted to get in an early dinner. The place was packed even though they had just opened at 5 pm. We had the "prawn" appetizer which consisted of 5 dinky shrimp swimming in oil, oh and the smallest slice of bread I'd ever seen. The app came out fast... however, the server just a quickly wanted to take it away even though there were still prawns in the dish. Then, we proceeded to wait 45 mins for the main courses. The seafood pasta was bland and had this terrible fish they claimed to be monkfish. Having had good monkfish, this would turn anyone off of trying it again. We were duped by the "woodfired" pizza, which was barely cooked through and just boring and bland. The only redeeming dish was the sea bass, which was actually cooked well, but still not super flavorful. So, all in all, only come here if you are desperate, have low expectations and aren't in a hurry.
