My wife opened an antique book on the table whose cover was already detached -- clearly old damage -- and it fell off as she opened it. The owner immediately stormed over and began berating her with an attitude that can only be described as hostile and condescending. She snatched a tiny piece of paper off the floor and inferring it was a "sign" warning customers not to touch -- insinuating my wife had somehow knocked it down. Then, dripping with sarcasm, she sneered, "Will that be cash or card?" while trying to force her to buy not only the already damaged book but the entire set. As if that wasn't enough, the owner followed us around the store like a hawk, glaring and muttering under her breath. When we finally decided to leave, she actually followed us outside -- screaming obscenities, calling my wife a vile name (The "C" word several times), and cruelly insulting my daughter's appearance even though my daughter had nothing to do with the incident and remained quiet. As we were leaving, I could distinctly hear the owner sarcastically tell us: "Be sure to go on Yelp and review my shop!" Thank you for the suggestion, Julie, I'll take your suggestion. From reading other reviews, it's clear this isn't an isolated incident. This owner has a history of being rude, aggressive, and completely unprofessional toward customers. I fully expect Julie will attempt to respond to this review by defending or excusing her behavior--perhaps even further revealing her behavior. I suppose we'll see. There are plenty of wonderful antique shops in Woodbury that actually respect their customers -- this is not one of them.

Main Street Antique Center - This is "good condition" to Arthur Pappas of Main Street Antiques.

We purchased close to $1,000 worth of antiques from Arthur Pappas and Mainstreet Antiques through…read morean auction. Approximately $100 of that (after taxes and his commission) was a small cabinet which was either willfully misrepresented in the description or accidentally misrepresented. When we showed up to pick it up, we found it covered in mold (see the photos). He had listed it as in "Good Condition" with no photos showing the actual condition of the cabinet (see screenshots). We showed the item that day to Mr. Pappas who was immediately hostile, asking only "are you serious?" in a huff before storming away--we did not see him again and completed the rest of our pickup. After no refund for a week, I reached out to him via email with photos and he said he would not give any refund, that this level of mold--or just mold in general-- is consistent with the "used furniture" that he offers for sale. Please look at the photos I posted and see if you agree that "good condition" antiques should look like this from a "professional" antique dealer. He kept the cabinet, which he still has. Despite this, he refused to refund our money. Further, while knowing nothing about me, he continued in email replies to cast aspersions on my character in a bizarre way: saying I must be "above cleaning," implying I have an unhappy life, or have a "fear of mold," all of which was extremely unprofessional. Mr. Pappas also knows (or should know) that this is all inaccurate because we purchased other larger pieces of wooden furniture from him, among other items, and were happy with them because they were in the condition represented in their descriptions (though, of course, we would not have purchased them, either, had we known what we were getting into). We disputed the charge with our CC company but they hampered us because they cannot accept photos as part of the complaint process and that was key to showing that the description of the item was deceptive or inaccurate. He wrote in his counterclaim that his photos were not deceptive and accurately showed the condition of the cabinet. You can decide. So, I write this to say BUYER BEWARE of any auctions held by Arthur Pappas or Main Street Antiques / Antiques Center. From his own representations you may not see mold, like my photos, in his description or photos but you SHOULD expect it upon pickup. And also expect a fair amount of abuse from him if you have a problem with that and ask for a refund. Best to just avoid this business. This part of the state is full of antique sellers, and there are far better merchants to give your money to who conduct their business with integrity.

There is a very eclectic mix of vintage clothing, furniture, pictures, jewelry and many other items. There's an upstairs and downstairs. We are beyond happy with our purchase of an awesome mid century modern couch. I wish we lived closer!
