When we arrived, a family of grandchildren were playing on the playground with their grandparents. We were alone in the picnic shelter which had six tables, grill and trash bins. They have a little visitor center when you can buy a bunch of souvenirs, snacks, and can get a stamp in your SC state parks passport. If this review was solely on the trails and beauty, it would be a 5/5 but unfortunately the campsite brings it down a bit. The campsite is on the larger side, and has 3 bathhouses to accommodate the area (close to you). You are given the basics like a picnic table & fire ring. Sites 1-29 have 20/30/50 amps, and 36-84 have 20/30 amp electric hookups. Sites 1-9 are full service (also have sewer). These sites do not give you a lot of privacy, and it seems like they built as many sites as they could in a confined area instead of spreading the sites out a bit to give the camper a bit more privacy. The bathhouses are clean, but are very dated and are in desperate need of a renovation. If you are not a camper, you will be charged an entrance fee of $6 if you are an adult, $3.75 for seniors (65+), or $3.50 for children (6-15). Overall, a 5/5 for the beauty of the park and amenities outside of the campsite, but 2/5 for the campsite itself.

Lots of foot traffic and people visiting my table. It is a very well maintained public park, and they have paved walking paths. There is also a hard standing building in the park that has both a male and female restrooms. Bathroom where maintained and clean. This park also has plenty of trees which allows you to excercise under the shade of the trees. Lots of vendors selling a large variety of items and food. Check the website for the entertainment line up. Security and the ambulance where in site for our safety, very much appreciated. This will be a yearly event for me to attend.

The Augusta Canal Discovery Center did just that on their annual Canal Day. I enjoyed it so much that I've returned three times since my Canal Day visit. The center celebrated their second canal day in April by creating a family friendly community event to show off the things that the center offers along with some fantastic performances. Canal Day offered free admission to their interactive exhibits where guest young and old could learn about the importance of the canal. I hadn't realized the significance of the canal until I started exploring. Augusta as we know it would be very different place if Henry Cummings had seen fit to use his intellect somewhere else in North America. After exploring the center, I snagged a discounted ticket on the Petersburg boat. Our facilitator was FANTASTIC!!! Even the littles were entertained with her knowledge and commentary. They also had fantastic performances that day. I didn't include a clip of the performers because I was so engrossed in their excerpt from their play, I completely forgot to record. I'm a sucker for kids showing off their talents. One of my former students performed and my smile was probably the biggest in the crowd. I'll always be in the front row cheering them on. Parents just know that once our kiddo, forever our kiddo. We love getting to see them blossom. I hope that Canal day continues to be an annual event. Until then, check them out. The scope of the canal here is quite impressive and to me, reminiscent of the canal that runs into…read morethe heart of Washington DC, as this one is from around the same time and has a notable aesthetic similarity. This one doesn't go all the way to the mountains, but you could easily spend a day on it on foot, and biking and boating are options as well. The infrastructure was good, and multiple open bathrooms and water fountains were available. The paths were generally quite wide (as former towpaths) and had plenty of space for bikes and pedestrians to share, with a couple of interesting exceptions. I didn't do any tours, but I expect the history is worth pursuing.
