TLDR: They were a massive help in getting my old truck up to snuff to pass inspections. ========== After some good diagnostics, work was needed on emissions and safety issues. All were fixedIt took work on their part over 3 visits to figure out what was needed. This included ordering parts from an out-of-state dealer so they could get it going. I see others saying they charge a lot. And they do charge more. This is because of their "Fixed Forever" program. This is not the place to go if you want a quick cheap fix. They don't just throw a band-aid on things and move on. They fix it all. The only thing that could be better was the in-between communication. Over the 3 visits it took to figure everything out, I received a call when they checked the car and when it was ready but the in-between times, I had to call to check in. read more

Went to get my tire fixed, said they could fix it and put it back on. When I showed up they did not put the tire on, not only that but they did not fix the tire, by the end of the night the tire went completely flat. Workers there are completely incompetent and don't care because they will get paid no matter what. They do not care about you or your car. Hopefully will get a refund on my payment I made for them to do nothing. read more

I am not sure of this rating. They have always been a favorite of my wife's however I recently bought my vehicle in for what I thought was a transmission issue. The car was in the bay less than fifteen minutes when I was told I needed a new transmission at the cost of $2300. I questioned this visual only estimate and drove three miles down the road to another shop who looked into the issue and found the only thing wrong was a rusted transmission pan. The second shop replaced the pan, did a tune up and brakes and various other small repair for 1800. Will need to consider if I will use this location again. read more

OUTRAGEOUS PRICING...Flat tire...pulled in said 1.5 hours to get it inside and fix. Told me the price was $34.95...which I think is ridiculous and fed me something about it being a 19" tire. Like the tire machine and patch can tell the difference. Maybe a millisecond of time between the different size tires makes the difference, I'm not sure. I did agree to bend over the barrel, mainly because I had a flat tire, but really felt used and dirty... On the bright side, they beat the time after getting it in it was done in about 20 minutes which is why they got two more stars. Not a bad gig I guess...nearly $105/hr... read more

Okay, so I have been to Dobb's numerous times, each time they have done fantastic work and have covered a part that needed replaced. Last night, my car started to shimmy and shake and I had some trouble with the steering seeming tight. I called Dobb's to see if they could tell me what the issue could be and if I needed to bring it in. I spoke with Andrew and he suggested I check the car and see of there may be snow stuck up in and around the tires. I pulled into the first gas station amd and immediately saw hard packed snow crammed in the wheel wells. Such a simple resolution! Thank you Andrew! read more

Took a tire in for just a patch. Waited 8 minutes at the counter before anyone even appeared at the front desk. Mind you, it was an hour after they had opened and there were just two cars in the bay... pretty slow. Was told that they could not patch the tire due to tread. When I showed them that there was plenty of tread on the tire all of the sudden it became about the tire being manufactured 8 years ago. So I took it to the tire place across the street and they, without question, took the tire and repaired it. It is as if they went out of their way to not do a simple job and to be completely discourteous about it. read more

The service and price was perfectly fine with me. They got me in and out with 4 new tires and an alignment in record time. I knocked them a star because, for some reason, they had to move every adjustment on my seat to drive my car into the bay and back out. I have a bad back and drive 50,000 a year and comfort on long drives is important. I understand having to slide the seat back as I'm shorter than average. But, changing the tilt, height, steering wheel tilt and telescope seems a little unnecessary. They even twisted the back so the right side was further back than the left so I had to hold it just right while adjusting it. It's going to take a month of having a sore back to figure out the perfect setting I had before. Changing the radio settings was completely unnecessary also. Cars are very personal things to some people. read more

They had disappoint me in the past so I should have expected they would up thier level of bad service by under quoting me by over a $100 for service. That I agreed to have done. Once it is done they have you over a barrel. I hope to never again have buisness dealings with them. read more

Had a concern about potentially low tire or lug nut issue on a new tire I had installed 3 days ago in my hometown. What a friendly staff and willingness to check out my situation. I took my 2015 Cherokee in for tires. I bought 4 tires that cost near 1000 dollars. That was fine. When I picked it up it had a chunk out of one of my wheels. They said they didn't do it of course. I know for a fact they did. All I can say is if you go there walk them around your car like a rental inspection. I will never be back there again. Not for ANYTHING!! read more

My wife's car starting knocking yesterday and due to our recent struggles with Dobbs (telling us we needed brakes and we didn't, telling us we needed air filters and we didn't, telling us they aligned the car and they didn't) we took it down to Meineke at Woodson and Brown. They are asking if we've ever had the oil changed as there was NO oil in the car and there does not appear to be a leak. Dobbs claims no responsibility at all. We last changed the oil in December on that vehicle and it should be at about 6000 miles since the oil change (according to Dobbs the oil MUST be changed every 3000 miles despite the manufacturer stating every 6 months or 7500 miles). It will cost $1800 to rebuild the engine, though the mechanic is recommending we trade it in (not something we wanted to do for the next 3 years due to being on 1 income for that time). read more

I'm from STL but live in Texas. My daughter is up in STL right now attending college. She took her car here yesterday and they wanted $1100! My Dad and BF are both mechanics and they both recently worked on her car. Dobbs tried saying all these things needed replacing (rotors, brake pads (which were replaced in August), said the wheel bearings were broken, and calipers. Today my daughter took it to another shop in the area and it's only going to cost $320, with replacing the rotors and calipers. What a rip off! I will never send anyone to this Dobbs or any Dobbs for that matter. read more

Took my Saturn VUE in because my engine was leaking oil and I needed to have my valve covers replaced. I took it to this Dobbs and I will never return there. First of all the price ended up over 100 more than I was quoted and secondly they tried to get me to replace my spark plugs and ignition coils just because they had some oil on them (at a crazy inflated priced too, considering they already had my engine open and would've taken 10 Minutes). Then the final straw, I went to go pick it up and it was running like shit and had the service engine soon light on! They told me it was the ignition coils like they said and wanted to charge me to even look at it again! I took it to a reputable mechanic and found out they disconnected some wiring that kept one cylinder from firing properly. (on purpose I am guessing) they reconnected the wiring and I was up and running. Total scam artists, stay away! read more

To Whom It May Concern, This is to inform you that I will not be using Dobb's Auto Service again. Years ago, 80's, I felt ripped off by Dobb's store around Lemay & Linbdberg. I had a timing belt replaced, problem my car had 2 belts only 1 was replace and shortly after the second broke, twice the labor thank you. I said nothing, no internet back then. About 4 years ago I needed tires, went to the Overland store because nowhere else close by. The sales person was great. Got a really good set of tires. Since then I have bought at least 12 additional tires from there. My problem, last month went to get tires fixed had 3 loosing air, a month later still loosing air, thanks for the free rotation. I also wanted a state inspection. Car had issue per YOUR inspector to the tune of over $700 dollars for tie rods, stabilizer and an additional $300 for wheel bearings. Funny thing is I went to Stevensons Hi Pointe station, they found on 1 tie rod needed to be replaced, cost $100. I wont be back to Dobb's ever again even if I need tires. I am filing a complaint with BBB. Please do not insult my intelligence by stating a gas staion cannot compare to Dobb's. They have a bigger bay than Overland, and can do ALL types of repair. I'm sure the safety inspections was the same. Thanks you new store manager or whoe ever the new guy is cause you lost a customer and will be seeing bad reviews from me. $1000 dollars really. I visited Dobbs Lackland location on 9/27/12. I will never return. They charged me $40 for an oil change they did not do. They quoted me a price of $722 to fix my brakes, claiming I had a stuck Caliber. On 9/28/12 I took my car to a different mechanic that told me my caliber was not stuck. He replaced the pads and rotars for $216. Since I did not have a sticker on my windshield I asked him to check to see if the oil had been changed. It had not. I called Jeremy at Dobbs, he admitted that I was charged for an oil change that was not performed. Jeremy claims this never happens. Makes you wonder how many times a day Dobbs rips people off like this. By going to get a second opinion, I saved $500, plus got an oil change. Never, never go to Dobbs at Lackland and Woodson. read more
