This craft cocktail bar was the highlight of our trip to Charleston. We were a party of three and had reservations on a Friday evening that we made the week prior. It fills up quick as they are serving the best cocktails in the city and they do have very limited seating. Every drink that we tried were very well thought out and balanced. My favorite was the Doar Bros. Manhattan with bone marrow $15. We also ordered a cheese plate that had to be one of the best cheese plates that I've ordered. It came with three different cheeses, bread, wildflower honey, blackberries, strawberries, and candied nuts. One of my new favorite cocktail bars! If you didn't know this is lace existed, you'd walk right by. Doar Bros is a small craft cocktail bar with a few tables and bar seats. Fun Art Deco Decor and a funky cocktail list to match. We got the Bourbon + Clyde which was topped with an orange vanilla foam and crushed pistachios. If I could only have one cocktail for the rest of my life, this would be it. Perfect in every way. The owners made the most of the small space, creating an elegant, yet inviting, vibe and offering both bar and table seating. Their cocktail list was top-notch and extremely inventive. The Mary Moultrie was a fruity and feminine blend of vodka, Aperol, blood orange, rosemary, lemon, soda, and a handful of fresh pomegranate seeds. The Hahn's Provisions was a creamy and refreshing mix of tequila blanco, Giffard Peach Liqueur, macadamia milk, mint, basil, lemon, and habanero bitters. This was a truly unusual elixir spanning all different flavor profiles, and its inclusion of milk made it very soothing. The Burnt District was a smoky blend of mezcal, spiced pineapple shrub, lime, and black walnut bitters. We had seen tequila and mezcal with pineapple before, but the black walnut bitters was an unique touch. In addition to these contemporary, custom beverages, we tried a standard Manhattan, which was not quite as unusual as the one they had crafted for their cocktail list, but was still well-executed. At times, there is just no words to describe something perfect. It just is. The "why" of that can be even more difficult to break down than the ingredients in a Doar Bros. cocktail. The elegant small space is in itself a design to appreciate and hopefully, if the threshold of alcohol maintains reasonable, to remember. Owned by two brothers, Jonathan and Adam Doar, there is something uniquely nerdy and non pretentious about the establishment. The two servers/bartenders who were crafting cocktails on both visits here are a couple very kind guys, who somehow manage to satisfy the cocktail craving of this entire space. Note: what might seem like a small space to guests, is no small feat to keep thirst cravings of those same guests at bay. That's especially the case when every cocktail requires careful attention and a pace that cannot be broken. The penicillin cocktail is an absolute must, reminiscent of a ginger shot with some smokey laphroig. The wine selections are very solid. The paddlefish caviar service is wonderful, although replacing chips with some blinis or even dark rye could be a better choice for a more traditional presentation. That would also highlight the caviar more and avoid an additional layer of salt from the chips. The glassware for wine is beautiful and elegant. The small, fresh flowers are on all the tables. Had a great time here with some friends after dinner across the street at Matador. We got a the truffle brown butter popcorn and holy sh!t I want some of that every night. I want it every time I watch a movie. The service was good- we ate outside which was fine, even on a June afternoon. The fan at the table was out of batteries but is a nice feature for those that may go earlier during happy hour. Since I was coming from Matador (and Margaritas) I stayed on the tequila train with some coconut earl grey tequila drink. Thanks to Yelp we found this great bar during our weekend Charleston adventure, celebrating seven years of marriage. Visited Doar Bros on Sunday night, which was risky. It's COVID-times and most places are still limiting seating, combined with Spoleto weekend *and* Memorial Day weekend... and a party of 4 in a tiny spot. Luckily, one of their reservations hadn't shown up and Jake led us to a cozy corner bar spot. The menu is 5 pages of drinks and 1 page of food, which is really how things should be. I ended up choosing the Golden Hour Sour ($14) and I was really happy with it. We were in a rush so we didn't get any bites, but our new friends at the bar (Chris and Kelly, celebrating their 33rd anniversary!) only had good things to say, and the plates we witnessed looked delicious. Chris served us while doing a million other things and by far the absolute best human in the service industry! I mean we were so blown away! I mean it was literally the best burger I've had, replacing my top contender , which is mission burger in Rhode Island. This was sooooo juicy, quality of meat was perfect, bun light and airy, carmalized onions and sauce 5 stars. We had a salad that just tasted like a warm summer Southern day with a light breeze. How you ask? No idea that's literally what I thought when I was eating it. So light and refreshing just like the drink. Then the bread pudding! The chef and Chris heard we were going to order it but they had already sold out so the chef prepared a special olive oil cake JUST FOR US! How freaking thoughtful. Let me TELLLLL YOU ABOUT THIS OLIVE OIL CAKE. We both were fighting over the last piece. That thing I will literally dream about. I can't even describe the flavor profile it was just literally out of this world good.
