Espresso and raspberry tart
John W.

Wonderful options for pour over and espresso. Really delicious pastries and especially the berry tart!! I ordered the Wush Wush anaerobic on V60 roasted by Rotterdam based roaster, A.M.O.C, which was a fun funky coffee. The atmosphere is low-lit, relaxing and service is always wonderful. Will return again soon!

My friend brought me to this place and I thought the coffee was pretty nice. I ordered a latte with almond milk, and it was delicious. It's a very quiet place so it ain't my place since I could loud when I get excited.

Came by for coffee on a rainy Saturday morning. Wasn't super busy which was nice. Atmosphere was cute, there were interesting tile floors and shelves filled with quirky books. The table we sat at had giant pieces of cork for seats which was a fun touch. Still not totally sure why it's called Do No Feed Alligators though. I ordered an iced latte, and it was pretty good. We got it for drinking there and it came in a glass cup. I will note the at there was a sign that said no tablets or computers, so they don't want people taking up space by working. It was a nice change of pace being at a coffee shop where everyone is socializing instead of doing work. I'm sure this is also due to the limited seating, there were only a few tables inside and a couple on a patio outside. Service was great, the cashier was very friendly as was the girl who made our drinks. Not sure I'd go far out of my way to return but would definitely stop by again if in the area.

Matcha latte was good but not amazing. Vibe is nice and it's pretty spacious. Seating is comfortable as well. However it gets very very crowded.

I was drawn to the store by its unique name, but unfortunately was let down. My family and I had gotten four drinks, and all of them were lackluster. The vanilla latte was very milky and had too much syrup, so it was very sweet. They hand-whisk their matcha per order, but our matcha drinks had come out grainy and the flavor wasn't smooth. The staff also weren't very nice. They weren't explicitly rude, but it was very clear that none of them wanted to be there or serving you. They also forgot to make me and my cousin's drink, and my cousin had even ordered 20 minutes after I did. I understand missing orders when it's super busy, but there was a normal flow of business at the time and they had missed two of our orders. The store itself is nice and has indoor and outdoor seating that is relaxing to sit and chat or read a book. They also have a couple pastries for sale. In the end, I would not recommend DNFA and there are about 3-4 other cafes in the same intersection a minute walk away that I would recommend you to go to instead, especially if you're looking for matcha.

i got the raspberry tart, which was delicious but a bit pricey at $12 for a slice! i could taste the freshness of the raspberries, and i enjoyed how light the cream was! definitely a lovely place to spend a weekend morning, but note that it can get quite crowded later into the day

Raspberry tart

Stopped by on a rainy Sunday morning to try their raspberry tart that I've heard good things about. (I'm not sure if the tart changes fruit seasonally/periodically but my friend specifically raved about the raspberry one.) There was a bit of a queue but we didn't have to wait too long. Seating is kind of limited - there's a handful of tables inside as well as a nice outdoor patio area (although sadly it rained on us while we were sitting outside haha). The tart was... fine? The custard felt a bit too bland for my taste (more "no" flavour than "bad" flavour) but the raspberries were sweet and tasted fresh. Price point was a bit high (around $10 iirc) for a slice, not sure if I'd be too keen to get it again. People seem to like their drinks though, I think I might want to come back and give that a try :)

cold brew

i got an iced cold brew and it was just okay -- not good not bad, just fine. my friend ordered an iced pistachio latte and rated it a 5/10, saying it was good but she has definitely had better. when we asked the barista for recommendations, she came across a bit indifferent, almost like she did not really want to answer. she asked what we were looking for (matcha, espresso drinks, alcohol etc), but in an off-putting way. to be fair, it was super busy, so perhaps that played a role, but she was still helpful in the end. the cafe itself is really spacious, with an interior that gives off a gallery vibe and a nice patio in the back. it can get loud at times, but that is to be expected on weekends. i also saw a few people order pastries that looked pretty good, so i would probably come back to try those. overall, i would say this spot is worth checking out, but with so many many cafes in the west village, it is definitely one of many to explore!

Hojicha latte with oat milk
Jennifer H.

Really cute interior and vibes, but the drinks were very hit or miss. I got the hojicha latte with oat milk, which tasted like water, but I had a sip of the pistachio latte as well, which was quite delicious. For the size of the drink, the prices were quite high. It also felt like the amount of drink that was made for each cup was consistently too much, which meant that the drinks were filled to the point that every person in the store spilled their drink trying to pick them up because there was no room for a lid? The barista also snapped at me when I reminded her that my drink was with oat milk when she had told the other barista to make it with whole milk and told me that I never clarified that Cute vibes but would probably go somewhere else. Hojicha is a definite skip!

cute spot with decent bit of seating, very hip. i really enjoyed their coffee (got a regular latte). i'd describe it as mid-bodied, not acidic, crisp and clean, a bit sweet. very enjoyable. i wanted to buy their beans but they don't sell their espresso beans... odd but okay. apparently their tart is delicious, but i'll have to try it next time.

Croissant (~$6)
Aya E.

Ordered: Iced Latte (~$7) Iced Strawberry Matcha (~$8) Croissant (~$6) Aya's take: Do Not Feed Alligators has been on my list to try for quite some time and I finally made it over! We ordered right away and went to grab a table. There's some seating inside but even more outside in their back patio area. The baristas looked a bit disorganized but were cranking out drinks pretty quickly. The Iced Latte was creamy, smooth, and the espresso was solid. The Iced Strawberry Matcha was fruity, refreshing, and silky. The strawberry portion is pre-made; they just pour it out of a larger batch while the matcha is whisked fresh. Both drinks were really good but the cups are so small compared to the prices of each! A 16oz cup would've been reasonable and on par with other cafes. The Croissant was surprisingly flaky, buttery, and light. Good snack to accompany the drinks. Glad I finally got to try DNFA!

I've always wanted to check this place out and I walked by and decided to pop in for an afternoon pick me up. The coffee shop is not that big. There are some tables at the front and a counter on the side with some barstools across from where the baristas are making the drinks. But there is an outdoor patio in the back with some heat lamps! There is one bathroom near the front. I got a hot vanilla latte with oat milk ($8.17). He didn't ask me what size I wanted so I assume there's only one. Honestly, it was a very good latte. However, it wasn't too hot and because it wasn't that big I finished it in 30 minutes. They offer 10% off if you write a Google review. I asked about Yelp reviews, but he said Google only. *sigh* oh well, I tried.

Hojicha latte (left), Tea (right)
Christine L.

A tad overhyped, but still cute. Lots of seating inside but can still get crowded. Their pour-overs are pretty good, their Hojicha latte is not. Both are slightly overpriced. Definitely recommend sticking with a coffee-based drink. Service is fine, can get busy though so to try to come at an off hour.

Staff is borderline comatose. Coffee is bitter. Vibe is unexceptional. Computers are not welcomed...But they have bathrooms.

However; the reason why I'm writing this update is because there are some changes at the store. Firstly; the large "Information Desk" at the rear of the first floor is no longer there. Instead, there's a small one on the right side of that floor (and it's almost hidden). Secondly; the huge first floor display of beautiful photo books of NYC and environs is now much smaller (although it seemed like there were more of them on the lower level than previously). There's also another change; the restrooms are now only accessible with a code, and a code can only be obtained via a receipt - so if you don't buy anything, you can't use the restroom (I ordered some books online later, since I didn't want to lug them home from the store). Further; employees don't have access to a bathroom code (obviously they have some other way to access the restrooms). I was there for a few hours - and if it wasn't for the fact that I had a dental appointment nearby afterwards, it would have been problematic. Having said that, I do realize that the restroom situation is an issue; at the Union Square store in particular, there used to be a big problem with homeless people and undoubtedly a corporate decision was made. I'm still keeping a five-star rating because of the employees and because the store has a great selection.

I used to spend hours in here during high school / college years admiring all the book covers and all the pretty sections for journals and such. I used to frequent the large Union Sq location until it closed. I'm guilty of being a primarily ebook and audio book consumer but nothing beats the feeling of holding one in your hand, flipping the pages and writing that book smell! This location is well kept and organized. I actually came in looking to buy a hard copy of Wuthering Heights but ended up leaving with 4 books total! Old habits die hard but I was glued to their stationary and journey section, everything's so pretty! However I do think those items are pretty overpriced, $20-22 for a small journal. All these years I still can't bring myself to spend that on a blank journal...no matter how pretty the covers are. But hey they make good eye candy. Cashiers are chill, friendly. I'll be back! Can't wait for a chance to visit again.

I brought in three statue items unopened in the original packaging. I checked on ebay for what the items sold for (not asking price but sold price) and it added up to about $600, I lugged the items over there and had to leave them there because they wouldn't get to them right away. The people/kids working there were very nice. I went to have lunch and got the text to return, and they are offering $150. So I picked up the items and turned down the offer. Again, they were very nice, it's just I wasn't willing to accept 25% of the value. I figured at worst it would be 50%. But I am better off getting closer to the actual price on ebay. Now, Buying. Lots of very expensive and exiting things to get, and I didn't have time to price check things so much, but my son is into the Nintendo switch and i spotted a used Marvel VS Capcom game he might like. It was $34.95. But just in case, I pulled up Amazon and looked the game up. A brand new one costs $21.79. So it would have been a terrible idea for me to buy it there. I guess if you are leaving work and need a quick gift, you might stop in and pay too much for an item. If you are in real trouble and don't have time to wait for an Ebay sale, you might consider selling your collectables for 25% the value, this place might come in handy.

Well, 45 minutes later, I was still oohing and awing at the marvelous selection of first edition books they have to offer. This is the largest selection (aside from corporate-owned Bauman's) of rare books I've seen that include the dust jacket- a collectors actual dream. It's the biggest breath of fresh air to find a rare book store owned by a woman, and to be treated like a human being. I normally get side-eyed from rare bookstore owners and some of the conversations I've had sound like: "May I see the Portrait of a Lady in the case?" "All of these books are at least $100.00 and up." ".....I know." "Do you have any Wilde?" "The book about the woman hiking alone? That's too new to be in our shop, Barnes & Noble would have it." "I'm talking about the 1800s poet." "Oh." I take it personally because while I look like a millennial who doesn't know what she's talking about, I treasure my rare books like they're my children.
