The park is quick and smooth and has a number of 4ft quarter pipes, transition and steep berms to do trick off. There are a few ledges that have been waxed up and are pretty fast. The centrepiece of the park is a 5ft kidney shaped bowl. There are a couple of gazebos around but the park is pretty bare of any shade. If you don't have any transport, make sure you pack a feed and some water as there is only one tap there and the closest shops are a good hike towards Chermside.

There are fun boxes, streetscape and grind poles for hours of fun. This park is right beside the Bayside PCYC and maybe because of this it is a hub for young people. There are often events at the park, with bands, stalls and a chance to see some really good riders. A bonus is this park is constucted in the big Ed Devenport Park, with lots of shady trees for when you need to take a break.

Main playground had great options and coverage with a good enough sized car park. The only concern was the lack of toilets and general protection/barrier from the lake for that child that likes to not listen and run off but space is not an issue! Beenleigh is a real family spot especially with the parks it has so this was a nice surprise.

It is THE park to go to if you're an avid sports person of almost any kind. They've got heaps of basketball courts, and a grassy area with basketball hoops there if you just want to practice shooting hoops. They've got at least two football sized fields for use. A bikepath runs past Downey Park and so cyclists can either continue on or have a rest stop at the park. At the southern end of the park, there's a fenced off lease dog area with training jumps put in place for owners who want to train their dogs or teach them tricks. The sporting options are many, and the facilities are fantastic there. It's a great park that really allows you to do everything you could possibly want to do in a park, except perhaps skate. No skating facilities. Other than that, Downey Park is your oyster.

In fact, I'm totally uncoordinated and pretty much the last person you should pick in that humiliating team selection game thing. My sporting pursuits meant that I spent a lot of time at Downey Park. Whether I was tripping over clods of dirt on the hockey fields, tripping over the bases on the softball diamonds, or tripping over a painted line on the netball courts (do you see a pattern here?), I was always at Downey Park on a Saturday morning in one hideous uniform or another. Because I live quite nearby, even though I've given up my dreams of Olympic gold I still come to Downey Park quite often. For one thing they have a nice big enclosed dog park area at the back which is ideal for my two crazy terriers, but there's also a nice walking path along the creek which will lead you to City Farm. The playground at Downey Park was recently redone and now includes a dizzying whirly-gig that I can never walk past without taking for a spin and some swings under the shade of big jacarandas. There's always something to do at Downey Park, even for those of us who are athletically-challenged.

There is also a skate bowl, which has a small concrete bowl for skateboards and BMX for juniors. Murray Duus park also has a fenced, 'off leash dog' area, opposite the Wavell Heights Bowls Club. There is a dog poo bin, water tap and seats in the area.

What's so great about this place? It has a killer bike path. It has a killer rollerskating path, it has a killer rollerblading path. Not many hills (thumbs up for this one) as well! It's the perfect place to learn, which is why they have people who hire skates and blades out on the top end of the path and teach people how to in droves. I love that this pathway can start from the top of Southbank when you cross the pedestrian bridge from the city and ends at the Story Bridge end or QUT for that matter over the Goodwill Bridge you go (warning, bit of a long uphill climb but you go down again!). It's one of the first places I got my rollerblades and learnt how. It's one of the first places I got my rollerskate on (for you roller derby people this is ideal for practicing) and besides the occassional bike passing you, the path is smooth, hardly any bumps, all good for minimising falling down. I won't lie, I have fallen a few times though (only when I was learning ahem ahem). It's great exercise, you can bring the family and rockclimb on the cliffs, bring a mate? You can run up the stairs from the bike path to the top of the cliffs (burn those calories) and it is a fantastic place to watch the fireworks from. Barbeque it up here, skate it up, it doesn't matter, they have paddle skis as well. Yelp! So you can park your car, ride your bike, rollerblade, rollerskate, climb a rock face and paddle ski then sit down and do a barbeque all in the one spot. Totally my fav.
