I've been seeing Amber for a couple of years now, and I honestly cannot say enough good things…read moreabout her talent, knowledge, and attention to detail. I originally started seeing Amber because I'm friends with her mom, and what began as a family connection turned into finding an incredibly talented stylist who I absolutely adore. Getting to see her every six weeks is something I genuinely look forward to. We always have great conversations, laugh a lot, and somehow manage to have a wonderful time while she's working her magic. We started with balayage, but over time, Amber helped me discover and embrace something I hadn't fully appreciated about my own hair -- its natural curl pattern. What really sets her apart is that she doesn't just make your hair look amazing in the salon and send you on your way. She takes the time to educate you about your hair, explain the products and techniques she's using, and, most importantly, teach you how to recreate those results at home. That is something I genuinely appreciate. Amber is incredibly methodical in her approach. She evaluates, plans, and thinks through what she wants to accomplish before she ever starts working. Nothing feels rushed or improvised. There's a purpose behind what she does, and she clearly understands both the science and artistry of her profession. My natural red hair has faded and become increasingly gray over the years, which presents its own challenges. Amber has developed a highly customized color formula for me that looks beautiful and natural while maintaining the character of my red hair. It's not an off-the-shelf color, and the care she takes to get it right is remarkable. Most recently, we ventured into a root perm to enhance my curls, and once again, I was impressed by how much thought, preparation, and care she put into the entire process. One of the things I respect most about Amber is her honesty. She doesn't tell you what you want to hear; she tells you what you need to know. She's realistic about what's achievable, honest about the process, and thoughtful about how to get the best possible result without compromising the health of your hair. That kind of integrity is every bit as valuable as her technical skill. She doesn't simply agree to something and hope for the best. She develops a plan and executes it with care and precision. Amber also never stops learning, and she genuinely wants her clients to learn alongside her. She listens, explains, problem-solves, and takes real pride in her work. She doesn't simply do your hair -- she works with you to figure out what is best for your hair, your goals, and your ability to maintain it yourself. Finding a stylist who can cut, color, and work with textured hair is one thing. Finding someone who combines all of those skills with this level of care, curiosity, honesty, and professionalism is something else entirely. And beyond all of that, she's just a genuinely wonderful person. I came to Amber because I knew her family, but I continue to see her because she's exceptional at what she does and because I truly enjoy spending time with her. I adore her, trust her completely with my hair, and cannot recommend her highly enough!

I brought in an inspo picture and she was very straight forward in saying my hair type (pin-straight Asian hair) wasn't going to show volume like the photo unless styled regularly. I told her that was too much effort for me because I'm a wash-and-wear kind of girl. She made recommendations to address my concerns of recent hair loss, dead ends, and needing more shape. It's hard to find someone honest who will tell you like it is (in a respectful manner of course). She has gained my trust as an ongoing client :)

I haven't colored my hair in over 10 years, so I was a bit nervous about getting my hair dyed…read moreagain. I always go for a natural look and wanted something that wouldn't be obvious when it grows out because I wasn't sure if I would keep up with dying my roots. My hair colorist suggested a few shades of auburn, as I requested a subtle red/brown color. We agreed on a medium chocolate color, and it turned out absolutely gorgeous. The color is very natural and just a subtle change in overall hue. It's exactly the little bit of color I wanted. I also added a Seal treatment to lock in the color. The shampoo and Seal treatment smelled amazing. I loved relaxing in the chair when my hair got washed. I should have asked which shampoo was used on my hair because I really loved the scent and the fact that their products do not contain harsh chemicals. I especially like how they advertise which chemicals/ingredients are not in the hair dye (see my photo of the color bar.) I have been hesitant to color my hair for years because I'm trying to grow it out and apply as little heat and chemicals as possible. My hair tends to be very dry, especially at the ends, so I don't want it to become drier, however, Madison Reed products seem to be high quality. My hair does not feel any more dry than it did prior to being colored. If anything their dye helps make hair silky and smooth. I'm contemplating returning for the unlimited roots membership, which seems like a great deal. I would definitely recommend Madison Reed to anyone who is looking to color their hair. The salon is very clean and aesthetically pleasing. The girl at the front desk and woman who colored my hair were both very welcoming and friendly. It's nice they have a couple other locations in the chicagoland area, as well. All in all, I was nervous before my experience, but ended up being very happy with the result. I noticed there are a few words of encouragement on the walls of the salon, including confident boosters, and that's exactly what I got: this little bit of color did in fact boost my confidence! It's just enough to look natural, but also give me a bit of an overall different hue. Thank you Madison Reed and staff for my wonderful experience!

My first colorist was very nice. I liked the color. My only complaint was I had roots showing within a couple of days. I had joined the pro level subscription, which meant I could get my roots done as often as I wanted. This is where it went downhill. When I went to try to get my roots done, I was told there was nothing wrong with them, and it must be the lighting. For a company who says you can come in as many times as you'd like for root touch ups at the pro level, they certainly do not want you to. The tech did my roots. The next day, I dried my hair, and my roots were showing!! I used the powder they sold me, and waited two weeks. I went back for another root touch up. The same thing happened. I washed my hair, with appropriate products, and my roots appeared. Whatever they had been using since my first trip was not permanent. I now had well over a half an inch of roots. We come to today. The tech asked if I used demi-permanent or permanent dye. I said "Permanent dye." I was getting an all over dye color, hoping this would color all of my roots. I was shampooed. I dried my hair, and left. Imagine my shock and dismay when I looked in the mirror and saw my roots!! What products are they using over there? No, it's not the lighting. No, it's not an "ashy" color. I went home and my son noticed right away. My husband noticed when he came home. I am very disappointed. I have cancelled my membership.

Sam cut my hair and did a great job. I explained to her that far too often when I ask for 2 inches cut off, many people interpret 2 inches as 4-5 inches. Noooo!!! Sam understood very well that I liked my length but I wanted some simply layers and overall clean up. I'm very pleased with my haircut and I would definitely return!!

They offer you coffee or tea from a local business in Libertyville which I thought was awesome and there's also cucumber-lemon water too. Patty came out to get me around 6:15-6:20 and patiently listened to my thoughts on what I wanted to do with my hair. She was super friendly and really helpful with offering advice every time I told her about my hair problems. Too dry, too frizzy, too damaged, everything! Believe me when I say my hair has been through a lot over the last decade and more. Patty washed my hair with an amazing minty shampoo and also a very light, non-creamy conditioner which I specifically asked for (yes!). Then she also showed me a leave-in conditioner and thermal protection spray that she thought would be best for my hair. What I most appreciated was that at no point did she ever try to sell me any of their products. She simply talked to me as if she was recommending something for a friend. The haircut turned out to be pretty good. My bangs were cut a little too short than what I would've liked though but luckily it grows out fast so it's not that big of a deal. She took off about 6+ inches of hair in the back so it ended up at the length that I wanted. Other random points: The Hair Fetish uses a lot of Paul Mitchell and Davines products. It's also a huge bonus that they do a free trim of your bangs if you come in the next 3 weeks after your haircut!
