We'd originally gone there seeking the Delice but as we walk through the door, I see the cheesemonger literally spooning out the gorgonzola into a container & it was love at first sight Grabbed a baguette from around the corner & dinner was served. That Gorgonzola was INCREDIBLE! Oozy, gooey, mild but tons of flavor The Delice de Pommard was a cream cheese with mustard seed husks from the Burgundy region Also offering wines, oils and lots of other temptations, Alain Hess is well worth a visit. If you do go, pick me up some of that Gorgonzola!

Alain Hess is a must-visit when you are in Beaune. It is a fantastic cheese and wine shop, probably…read morethe best in the entire city. The array of cheeses -- all lovingly displayed in a large glass case -- is enough to make any cheese lover salivate and instantly reach for his wallet. The wine shop downstairs is also impressive. Of course you are not going to find any of the highly collectible stuff, but there is a very good selection (of Burgundy, of course!) at decent prices. You can also find a good selection of hand harvested sea salt, high end chocolate, such as Bonnat, and Fallot mustard.
