Small but intimate setting. Only saw one play there - Mary Stuart - and it was awesome, not sure how it would be for other types of plays but will give it a shot in the future. read more

I could not attend the first part of the performance because all my belongings had to be cleaned (including electronics). Secondly, the administration: We agreed on a refund of the tickets which never arrived, despite an agreement in principle from the manager, repeated reminders and emails exchanged over 4 months. They even dared to tell me that I had seen the performance, even though I had missed the first part and was with the manager at the time. I can't recommend the state opera. In any case, as a foreigner who is not a recurrent customer, you are not treated properly there.

The box seats are wonderful and velvety that make you feel in love with the culture and the art. It's not big but it is very imitated to the actors and to the story of being told on the stage. There is a big room overlook the river is for refreshments, such decor and the lighting make you feel like back to the good old days. Love it here.

Theater tickets in Prague about 1/3rd the cost of seeing a live show in America, take advantage! I enjoyed an amazing presentation of Carmen, my first time! Loved it! Be sure to dress up a notch than your usual crappy travel wear...dress shirt and khakis/slacks at minimum for men.

Overall, I would recommend going to a marionette show while you are in vacationing in Prague!

Museums are usually my go to spots, but when in Praha, one must see a puppet show. Not just a boring puppet show, but marionette style. What so unique about this? well, Mozart especially composed for Prague "the opera of operas" -- Don Giovanni. In 1787, Don Giovanni premiered at the Stavovské Theatre which Mozart personally conducted. The National Marionette Theatre takes this exceptional opera and presents it in stylish costumes and stage performance marionettes. It's performed in a unique architectural space, art deco style (read: old theater with very old, uncomfortable wooden seats built for skinny people) Since they want to stay authentic to the original, the whole thing is done in Italian. While I think Italian is like love music to the ears, I can't understand a thing. So, listen with your heart and if you're bored, they do sell alcoholic beverages in the lobby. * hic *

The crowd was definitely mix of expats, tourists and locals. We were having a wonderful time until some douchebag decided to bug my friend and threw a beer at her. While I'm not a dance expert, I know toes should be pointed, group choreography should be in sync and partner work shouldn't look dangerous during lifts. There definitely was the feel of a novice production with these aspects and the young age of the performers. With that in mind, the same joke about female anatomy was countlessly performed and it continued to sour. As we attended a performance specifically noted as child-appropriate some of the jokes seemed to be in poor taste.

The bar/restaurant area itself (as this, along with the toilets, was the only bit we saw) is modern and has clever lighting to create a really calm ambience. The guy behind the bar handled some obnoxious american tourists very well, and was noticably more chipper with us when we attempted (and failed) to speak Czech with him. The reason I loved it, apart from all the above? Kozel beer, by the bottle, dead cheap. And just what you want after a morning in the fresh air taking in the beautiful scenery around Vysehrad.
