The Busnel Distillery is where Calvados is distilled and bottled in the Normandy region of France. We arrived here on a hot summer's day as part of a cruise tour to see the distillery, try some cheeses, and drink some Calvados.
The tour started like most distillery tours with a video. I will fully admit that this one was more expressive and dramatic then most of the other distillery videos I have seen. After ten minutes we were ushered by our English speaking guide throughout the distillery to see how the Calvados is distilled, stored, and then bottles explaining the process in detail. Our guide spoke fluent English but struggled in some areas especially if he was asked questions that weren't part of the script so to speak.
After the tour we went back to the visitor's center where we tried cheese and Calvados. The cheese was great - creamy and pungent - while the youngest Calvados was very stiff and their older version was much smoother.
It was a nice tour. read more
