Dickenson's General Store - Front of store. Sorry, it's dark. You'll still see the place, as the gas part is all lit up.

As you're driving down 522 trying to avoid 95, just as your bladder is about to EXPLODE because…read morethere isn't another restroom until you get to Mineral Ave, and you haven't seen one for quite a while, you reach Dickenson's. Dickenson's is clean, spacious yet cozy, and very welcoming. It feels as though you've just walked into your grandmother's house--the smell immediately makes you feel at home, and the warm, comforting decor lets you know that you're in the right place. The warm, sincere "how ya doin' darlin'?"s don't hurt much either. So I know you have to use the bathroom, but take your time, speed racer. There's actually some great, down-home food at the little take-out restaurant in the middle of the store. Let me say first that I never eat fried chicken and rarely eat any other fried meats besides fish. Just the same, I was starving, so I took the chance on what I thought was a baked pork tenderloin sandwich. It turned out to be fried, but boy was it good!! The meat was super flavorful and tender. The breading had just the right crunch. Unfortunately, because I was sick, I had to take of the batter because I couldn't stomach fried food, and I found out that that's where most of the flavor was. The batter was flavorful, spicy, and deeelish! The bread was also that perfect fluffy sandwich roll, mmmm, mmm, mmmm! In short, I would totally vouch for even the fried chicken there, even though I don't like fried chicken myself. Stop in and you're sure to get a flavorful, affordable meal on the go. There are also plenty of drinks and snacks to choose from, including some homemade peanut brittle. Also, the bathroom is nice and clean too. Pop in for a quick bite, and you won't regret it! Besides, it's a gas station too, so you may as well stop and get your gas here. It'll be quite a while before you see another one, lol.

Thx for clean bathroom. Great gas price. Few stores on 522 will let you use their restroom. We…read morewill be back. Bless ya

My dad was a pipefitter. My mom worked for a small pump company in Crittenden, KY. We spent a day…read morethere every weekend for four years cleaning the place to buy our little runabout ski boat. We spent every vacation I can remember on Lake Cumberland, KY at some of the most impressive marinas anywhere -- I know a good one when I see one. Sturgeon Creek is a small operation in a relatively secluded part of a smallish lake. In fact, it is just across Lake Anna from the Nuclear Plant. (So close you can FEEL the anti-neutrinos flowing through you!!!) Sturgeon Creek is small but done very well, with an engaging staff. They mainly rent out pontoon boats -- 3 flavors to suit your needs. We rented 'Old Blue', a 24 foot model that would seat a soccer team, and has a 60 horsepower motor. Top end speed was 20 mph -- I clocked it on my Garmin. That's exactly the right speed on a lake that is 10 miles long. The facilities at Sturgeon Creek were surprisingly good. A great little picnic area. Very wide launch ramps if you bring your own boat. Modern gas pumps, with pay-at-the-pump capability (and no more expensive than a gas station). No current, no wind, no waves to make things difficult. Sturgeon Creek is on a peaceful little outcrop of a large cove -- just 30 seconds from the main drag. If you're looking for an easy way to see the lake, I highly recommend giving Sturgeon Creek a try. Say hi to Campbell -- he's the old guy sitting on the porch, doing the job I wish I had.

Great customer service and easy access to the lake! Use this ramp every time we come to Lake Anna!read more
