Baobab, named after the Baobab tree, a defining of African bushland is a cute flower shop that offers a variety of different flowers and small gifts. I do consulting at a hotel close by and every time I go there I pass by this flower shop (however plain on the outside, I always look through the window to see a floor filled with different flowers) so last week I decided to go in and get some flowers for our house. The owner was a lovely woman who helped me pick out a great bunch of flowers - you can mix and match. She was super helpful and we chatted for a bit as she put together the bunch and gave me tips on improving my non-existent green thumb. One of the tips was to throw a couple of drops of soda into the vase to keep the blossoms lasting longer. Great experience and customer service - the flowers are still in our kitchen and look great!

Located on the busy and somewhat dingy street of Portugal, this bakery and flower shop lights up…read morethe street. They are known best for their very detailed marzipan artwork. Every time you walk by the window display is updated with new - even more intricate cake designs than the week before. I honestly would have to say that the cake itself isn't that great, but the detailed decoration definitely is what makes these arts of work so spectacular. You can put together your own cake starting out with flavor of cake, filling and frosting. For my birthday, my partner ordered a small chocolate cake with a design of me on a yoga ball (what I use for a work chair) and my cellphone in hand. The details were great but the flavor definitely fell flat and was pretty dry. The total cost was 40 mil! It is definitely a bit on the expensive side for what you get but, like I said above, you are really paying for the art not the cake. The best part about Flor de Cafe is that they offer gluten-free cakes as well as cakes for diabetics!! Tip: They specialize in baby shower cakes and their artwork definitely reflects it - so keep that in mind.
