These days I take the trains when it's cheaper than parking at my destination. $3 round trip train ride or $40 parking at LA Live? You know which one I'm choosing. The Florence station has 120 parking spots, but that's really the only good thing about it. The station is in a run-down neighborhood, there's not much room to sit, and I had several creepers pestering me. ("Hey Mama, whats yo name? You gotta boyfrayand?") Still better than that $40 parking downtown.

As one of the minority car-less LA county residents, I know the rail and bus station better than…read moremost. Until last week, I had never had the (dis)pleasure of hopping off the train at the Slauson Blueline Station. I had a morning meeting in Commerce so the Slauson 108 bus was my ticket to ride. The Slauson station is in a VERY industrial section of town and it's not at all pedestrian friendly. There is a Subway and a mini-mart a couple of blocks away but I would recommend that you hop down the stairs and make your bus transfer as quickly as possible. Ladies, this stop did not feel safe to me, even at 9am. This girl is NOT afraid of public transportation at most hours of the day but this stop made me really uneasy. It felt deserted and really disconnected from everything around it. Best to keep an eye on your wallet and only hop off here if necessary. 2 stars because of the convenience of the 108 along the Slauson corridor and the many hidden food gems in the area. (La Casita Mexicana, Quickie Dog, etc.)

Located in a not so great area of L.A., the Slauson Blue Line station is on the 2nd floor. The elevators often don't work and if they do, they reek of urine. Even though he knows how much I hate the LA " public transportation" system. Coming from Europe. To me, this is anything but a public transportation system. It is unsafe. Too complicated. Inconvenient. And in many cases ( like today) makes absolutely no sense whatsoever! This system here would go under within a week in Europe. Anyway. Today we took the North Hollywood subway all the way to 7th and whatever it was, and from there the E-line to the Museum. While having to listen to someone's bloody nonsense, he was listening to on his cell phone. Of course no care in the world that everybody had to listen to it. I just sat there, wondering how long I could take this. Finally we arrived at our destination. When we got out of the stop, I noticed some tent where some people sold some of those TAP cards for the Metro system. I found it quite odd that those things are being sold by individuals on the streets. But nothing surprises me any longer in this city, I guess. I had one of those tap cards for quite a while, in case my spouse has one of those crazy moments that he can talk me into taking the subway. We enjoyed our day at the museum. Had a very nice day. Well, when we were ready to go back to the train station to get a ride back home, I noticed I had lost my tap card. I looked at my spouse and said. So, what am I going to do now? This weird tent wasn't there any longer. There's no machine at the station where I can buy a ticket. I cannot buy a ticket on the train. WHAT in the heck does Metro expect someone who doesn't have a tap card to do to take a ride on their system, but there is nowhere a chance to pay for a ride? What is wrong with them? In Germany, at every bus station, trolley car station, or, if not, then inside the bus or trolley, you can buy a ticket. The machines. You can buy a one-way ticket. A round-trip ticket. A day ticket. A weekly ticket, A monthly ticket. A student ticket. A senior ticket. And then I hear that the big bosses of Metro travel to Europe to " see" and "learn" how things are done there with their public transportation! But they can't even come up with the simple thought that maybe, just maybe there are customers that decide to take a bus or subway or a train like the e-line out of the blue for a one-time trip and need to buy a one-time ticket. I don't think you need to travel to other countries, spending all this money, or need a scientist to think of who or come up with this. But this is what happens when you have people at the top who, most of the time, drive their cars, or common sense is something unknown, and are so busy patting themselves on their shoulders for how wonderful they are. Learn from other countries or even other states how things are done. Or even how things were done in the past here in LA, before the whole public transportation system was destroyed. Get a grip and make it easy for us customers. I don't want to be stranded somewhere because you can't offer me a place where I can pay for my ride back home!! This is the least I can expect!

More like 3.5 stars. This goes from MacArthur Park all the way to the Gold Line's last station in…read morePasadena...the Sierra Madre Villa Station. It's an "Express" bus, though I don't know why since it's not any quicker than a normal bus. It's never crowded which is great. It's $1.25 for an in-zone ride, or $1.85 if you're going farther. One thing that's annoying about it is how long it takes to snake its way through San Gabriel. It goes down Las Tunas, Mission Dr, Valley, and Del Mar and hops on the 10 freeway. It makes a stop at the Cal State LA Station and then gets to downtown by Union Station. Once it's on the freeway, that part is quick. The ride is always slower or takes longer than the timetable would have you believe, but of course it's an inexact science. Apparently they're extending the route even longer before it heads downtown....I think it's going to go into El Monte? I'm not sure but then it will definitely not be EXPRESS for me. That and its limited hours are my biggest pet peeves about it. I concede there is probably not enough demand to warrant longer hours, but it doesn't even run past 8:30 or 9ish. *sigh* Too bad, because it stops just a short walk from my house, whereas to catch the 79 at San Gabriel/Huntington is almost a mile away. :( And near the end of its schedule, it only comes once an hour. It's been a few times now that I've seen it driving by as I was running to catch it...but that's the way it goes! If I had just been a minute earlier... I think if you live in Pasadena, the Gold Line is probably quicker to take in my opinion. And nicer to ride.

The Blue Line is full of terrible stations. I'm happy that Metro is in the process of expanding…read moremetro rail around the county but I hope they can simultaneously improve the lines and stations that already exist. I think this is important for the betterment of our communities and so we we don't embrace ourselves when the Olympics come to town. This station is dingy like a dive bar but less fun. It lacks aspects like monitors with ETAs, the time, and announcement. Features like this are available at most other stations that aren't along the Blue Line. Not a fan, will not be using it again.

Anybody who is a SoCal native knows damn well the feeling I am describing! Los Angeles has the Metro system, which is able to take passengers just about anywhere in this big city! The Firestone Blue Line Station is the one metro station that is nearest my place. I will just say this-beware coming, especially in the dusk or wee hours. This place honestly should be patrolled more often by the police. It has done a better job in doing so the past few years. This station is located in the not so safest part of town. You will find people selling items here, inebriated patrons stumbling of the nearby bar, the usual homeless and some of those certain individuals that are just up to no good. The metro here runs abut every 10-13 minutes during normal operational hours. During the weekend and dusk hours, it will tend to take a bit longer. Note of advice- do not I repeat DO NOT EVEN MAKE AN ATTEMPT TO USE THE ELEVATOR...it always reeks of urine. I cannot say that I have ever had such a bad or dangerous encounter. The bus stop is right downstairs, so not much of a walk is necessary. I only warn to be careful here!
