I kept the tradition alive & took my baby to the Red Rock Fantasy lights walk through :)…read more My favorite light display was Smurf themed, lol. Normally along the walk the resort provides complimentary hot cider, but they didn't have that this year. Instead along the walk through there were 2 areas to warm up! The first was a hot chocolate booth. The second was a rest area & I LOVED it :D The trees had twilkle lights, there were portable fire pits surrounded by chairs, Santa sitting near a big brick fireplace ready to take pics with kids (young & old!) & a booth that sold hot chocolate, coffee, chili, churros & smores kits! SMORES KITS!!!!! The girls & I sat around one of the fires & made smores while sipping on our hot chocolate :) What a memorable way to spend an evening with the person/people you love!

People come from all over to vote on their favorite display. The winner stays in the "stone house" the following year. PS. My sister and her hubby upgraded to the "houses" and hawe have been staying at the celebrity house. What a neat place. Private pool, spa ect...BUT Los Abrigados has changed a bit since they were bought out. It is still a wonderful place, and the spa and workout room ect... are a HUGH plus. Best massages Ive ever had.

Ok, I'm going to give this place 5 stars because, technically, it is a cool place that not a lot of…read morepeople know about. It's actually a hydroelectric plant along the Arizona Canal. As we approached the building (you can't go in it), the smell hit us and I thought, oh no, I've made a huge mistake. I think I was just there on a bad day or something, because I didn't see many reviews mention the smell at all. What smell? Raw sewage, very sulphur- and trash-like. I mean, it STUNK. It was strongest at the top overlook, right next to the building. As we went down the staircase to the lower level, the smell began to dissipate and eventually, to my nose, disappeared altogether. On the lower level, we saw the waterfalls. You can walk under/behind two of them and there are "seats" made of stone blocks in front of the third. The water was flowing pretty hard the day we visited, so the seats and all the pavement was wet and there was a slight mist coming off the middle one. The overall place is like a mixture of industrial and environmental architechture. There are metal-looking columns holding up the upper deck, yet the waterfalls look like they were copied from Frank Lloyd Wright's Fallingwater, and there are large stones/rocks embedded into the walls everywhere. It sits on the edge of a small park with a decent sized lot and there are hiking paths. We only came for the falls, so I can't speak to the hike, but the area looked fairly nice. I'd like to see it at night as it looks pretty cool in pictures I've seen. If you're looking for something a little different to do or show your visitors from out of town, this is a neat place to go. Hopefully, the smell is a one off, but even if not, hold your breath and go down the stairs..... 13/2026

The water falls are a cool secondary benefit of the water works plant at Arizona Falls. There is a nice park and biking trail that we look forward to exploring on our next visit. Highly recommended for a unique opportunity to enjoy waterfalls in the valley of the sun and learn about how the innovative Hohokam Indians.

We were sitting in our hotel room after a day of skiing at the snowbowl and it occurred to me that…read moreI should check the day's events in town. ... and what do you know! A tree lighting at Heritage Square was set for that evening and it's only .5 miles from the hotel we always stay at when we come up north. We are up here 2x/month, so the area is fairly familiar, even though we've only begun this tradition a month or so ago. We have small kids (4 and 6) and figured this would be the perfect family even. I love tree lightings, specifically in smaller towns. Scottsdale's is just... BIG. Maybe too big to get that locals feel. Plus, you don't even need a jacket there. With a chill in the air and dusk settling on the square, Santa drove by and got out of the firetruck. He found his place and moments later, the tree was lit! My son was singing Christmas songs the entire time... which caught the attention of a local college journalism student who asked us for an interview. When we finished, we enjoyed complimentary hot cocoa, crafts and cookie decorating, courtesy of local businesses and restaurants. We finished off the night with a local pizza joint down the street. This area is surrounded by quaint hotels and cute shops and restaurants. It's definitely the cutest little part of Flagstaff. Only gripe? It's paid parking anywhere within a 1/2 mile of downtown. Save yourself a bit and attempt to walk from your hotel, if possible. for such a small town, it's annoying to pay for parking (but I do understand that in a tourist town, they need a revenue flow...).

Heritage Square is surrounded by a number of restaurants and retail stores. Events are free and include a variety of activities like open-air movies, art festivals, summer concerts and fitness classes. I have walked through here on many occasions over the years. Usually with a coffee in hand from one of the nearby coffee shops. I like coming here when they have live music. Different areas of Heritage Square pay homage to Flagstaff's culture and history. The railroad, Route 66, Lowell Observatory and ranching are all represented here on plaques and benches. The space where live music takes place is where the old Empress Theater once stood. There are also actual rocks from the Grand Canyon near the flagpole.

It's walkable from campus, and the train and bus station conveniently located between campus and downtown. Remember that you are 6,000 feet up in elevation so you may get winded walking, hiking or using stairs if not used to the high elevation. Because of the elevation, this is a cute little mountain town with pine trees and snow, birds and insects, flowers and an extra bright sun. It also offers stellar night sky views. There's even Lowell Observatory on W Mars Hill Rd to take advantage of the dark sky community and look at the stars at night. Students get in free. Walking the streets, I'm reminded of being in a Northern Californian town. It's well kept with a woodsy and outdoor adventure theme. There are also historic sites and museums to visit like Riordan Mansion State Historic Park and the Museum of Northern Arizona. You also know that you are in a college town. I really enjoy the artsy graffiti throughout town and in the alleys that you can use for shortcuts to get around town. It's hard to believe Flagstaff and the school has been here as a settlement in 1876, before the state was actually established in 1912. There's so much cool history and anthropology to discover here. You'll be sure to find something fun to do downtown with all the shops, markets, cafes, restaurants, boutique hotels, and historic sites. You can even stay at Hotel Monte Vista which is supposed to be haunted, and enjoy some really good, classic cocktails like an Espresso Martini and Smoky Old Fashioned in their popular cocktail bar, Rendezvous. My only complaint is that it's hard to find parking, especially on busy weekends. If you don't mind paying to park or walking 3-4 blocks you'll be fine.

This was my 2nd time visiting this town. The first time was in 2010, a quick detour on our way to South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park. On this our second visit we took our time, dined here, and even did a little shopping. I love the little throwback in time. Route 66 passes right through Seligman and was once in the brink of being decommissioned when high-speed I-40 was built and made Route 66 obsolete. Seligman residents especially one man who was not about to let this happen convinced the State of Arizona to dedicate Route 66 a historic highway. Angel Delgadillo is the crusader who led the charge to save Route 66. He has been nicknamed "The Guardian Angel of Route 66". We dined at Westside Lilo's... they serve breakfast all day and famous for their carrot cake. Across the street is another restaurant called Roadkill Cafe. On the parking lot are roadside attraction to attract tourists to the Cafe. The "Seligman Depot" and the "1860 Arizona Territorial Jail" are not authentic historical buildings, but owned by the Roadkill Cafe. Also, the Arizona Territory did not exist until 1863 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Don't forget to stop by Angel & Vilma Delgadillo's Original Route 66 Gift Shop and Delgadillos Snow Cap. If you love road trips, historical sites, retro towns, or all of the above, Seligman is the perfect place for you. Can you guess what Pixar movie was inspired by this town?
