As some others have been saying, not the best service. The person behind the counter was looking at their phone while I was ordering and paying, and I felt a bit put off by it. But my iced latte came out fast and correct, so no harm done really. And also as I've seen other reviews say, this coffee is SMOOTH. I drink coffee just because I've gotten so used to it from college, and I'm not an expert at all, but I've definitely had coffees that leave such a bitter taste in your mouth and stings your tongue. Because this coffee was so smooth, I didn't taste a hint of bitterness at all. I'm a sweet coffee person-- I like the syrups and such, but Devocion does not offer any flavored syrups. They only have simple syrup and honey syrup that you can add on your own at a counter on the side. I honestly don't think I needed any syrup, like I definitely could have downed this as it was given to me. It had the just right ratio of milk to coffee. BUT I did end up adding some honey syrup just for flavor's sake, and I loved it. The vibe is also great-- there are a bunch of tables and couches inside and the design makes it feel very cozy. At around 1pm on a Monday it was decently full, with just one table open, but it wasn't very loud so I can imagine people coming in to do some work while sipping on a drink. read more

I did some quick research and learned that there are a few Devoción locations throughout Manhattan and Brooklyn. I was really surprised with how big it was - there were high ceilings, exposed brick, and windows in the back that invited a lot of natural light in. Tables were scattered throughout the space as well as a couple of couches - such coffeehouse. The menu was simple - they had a selection of hot and iced coffees, teas, and baked goods; the iced nitro cold brew looked good so I went with that. The coffee was good - smooth with food flavor, and it was nice and cold without being overpowered with ice. Was it noteworthy? I'm not too sure, but it wasn't bad. It was crowded when we got there, so seating was a problem - people were hovering over seats waiting for people to get up. I'm not about that so after we grabbed our coffees we headed out. Stopped by here on a early weekday morning, and the place was packed. No seats free, decent line, so definitely be ready to wait a bit! I got their special espresso in the cortado form, and it ended up being way more expensive than I expected (~10 dollars) cause I misread. When it says "5" next to the special, know that it means an extra 5 dollars on top of the cortado price. Oh well! The actual espresso was very very special. It had a super unique flavor, almost like a sour fermented honey. Never had anything like it, and the cortado was also poured well enough to let that base bean flavor to really shine. This is my first time coming to this cafe, while walking to the train I somehow stumbled in here; I love it. There is plenty of seating but if you like the small cozy, quite cafes you should probably venture elsewhere. The quality was amazing, you can taste the depth of the espresso paired with the milk that wasn't too thin nor was it too thick. Both danced in harmony with each other to make a splendid hot latte. Devoción is my favorite coffee in NYC by far! They take pride in their coffee quality and they serve their beans within 45 days of harvesting them. The ambiance is great and the baristas are knowledgeable and friendly. There are quite a few tables but most of the tables are just for two people so it's not a great spot to sit with a group of people. When you first walk in the tables might be all taken, but I've found that tables open up pretty regularly and I've always ended Ip with a seat. The coffee was good, but there was more to be desired when it comes to the service overall. The barista could care less about what he was serving and was flat out rude. The other worker at the redigster had no idea what drip coffee was being served. I asked for a cortado to drink in house and it was served in a to go cup - I restated it was to drink there he dumped the coffee in a glass and pounded it on the bar !!? I had quite the unexpected unpleasant experience here this morning. I've heard a lot about Devocion from friends (particularly that it was expensive), so I had high expectations overall, most of which were let down. The service: The staff is very standoffish. I asked the cashier which tea they recommended, and they said they didn't have one that one recommend. I asked another barista later what the wifi password was, and they dryly pointed to the wifi sign that was far off to the side of the counter. I ordered two drinks, and they only called my name for one and left the other one at the counter later on, and I had to go ask for it myself. The ambiance: The worst part of my experience was that every few 5-10 minutes, I would get a whiff of what smelled like a dirty sponge. I am relatively sensitive to bad odors, but I've never experienced this sort of lingering rotten smell at a coffee shop. Additionally, the cafe is very loud; not because of the people, but because there are two speakers playing two different songs inside. The food/drinks: Iced latte had a weird sour aftertaste, not in the way that coffee is usually sour. My almond milk might have been bad. Apple and strawberry tea tasted mostly like water with a hint of flavor but I didn't mind it. Banana bread was good, but not particularly impressive. Overall: I won't be coming back. The interior decor is picturesque and some of my drinks/food were okay, but this is definitely not a place I want to voluntarily spend time inside, nor is it an establishment I feel good about going back to. read more
