The hostess is a RACIST. He is bald with glasses and a beard. He is the rude one you can't miss him. Never in my life have I ever experienced something like this. Tonight I went for dinner with my cousin at Desserts Plus located in Woodbridge. My cousin really likes pasta so I decided to take her there since I have been there a few times and the food is extremely good and the portions are humongous. I made reservations for 7:30pm. We arrived at the restaurant five minutes early. There was a huge crowd swarming by the entrance. I made my way through the crowd and tried to look for the hostess. There was no one around. Finally I saw a guy coming and telling other patrons that their table was ready. I went up to him and told him that I had reservations for 7:30pm. He said brusquely to me " Go to the back of the line. Other people have reservations as well." I was shocked at the way he talked to me. I went to the back of the line and waited. Forty minutes later the crowd had dispersed and I was still waiting to be served. The rude hostess talked to people around me asking who had reservations yet he didn't bother to ask me even though I was standing right in front of him. Finally I told him again that I have reservations and he replied again in that cold demeanor that I have to wait a few minutes. He even gave me a dirty look like he was disgusted with me or something. There was this couple that came in after me and waited only 10 minutes before being seated at a table while at that time I had waited for 40 minutes and he still didn't even talk to me. I was fuming when I saw that. Even the patrons next to me noticed it and were angry for me as well. Finally, after waiting for over an hour the hostess came and told us our table was ready. But the way he told us made me even more mad. He just came and pointed his finger almost right up to my face and said "You come." How insulting was that?!! Me and my cousin were the only Asians there. The hostess talked to everyone that was around us but never bothered to talk to us directly until I spoke to him. If it wasn't for my cousin who wanted to try the place I would've left the instant the couple got seated before us. The service was horrendous. I truly believe the hostess was a racist. I have never ever been treated like that before. I felt so humiliated and belittled that I wanted to scream at the guy. I kept my mouth shut because I didn't want anyone spitting into our food. After our meal was over I asked our waitress who the hostess was whether he was the owner or not. She replied tentatively not really but he does a lot of other things. I think he's just related to the owner somehow which explains why he can be the jerk that he is. I admit the food was good but for that type of service I would never EVER step foot into that place again. There are plenty of other restaurants to choose from that has good food AND good customer service skills combined. If that guy still works there the restaurant will only end up closing down because the location is not so great so think the only way they get business is by referrals. I still haven't figured out the significance of their name as I've never had room in my stomach to enjoy dessert here. This is as authentic as it gets outside of my Nonna's kitchen. The food is always fantastic and the portions are definitely something my Nonna wouldn't complain about either! HUGE! If you can manage to sneak a peak into the kitchen you'll see an actual army of nonna's working away. Crazy! It is usually pretty busy so be prepared to wait some time for your meal, they're not serving instant TV dinners here. If you're watching your waistline then this is definitely not the place for you. It's so disappointing to see that all these reviews, all the word of mouth commentary, they mention the same criteria... Poor Poor service but great food. It's actually sad that people will go there to put up with the poor service because the food is that good. I wonder how long it will take before Deserts Plus actually does something to shape up their attitudes. But how could they improve when customers comment that it's "worth it". This shows the owners and operators that their unprofessional culture is simply "ok". It never fails, there's always that 1 person who creates this environment, and it's the miserable looking bald guy with glasses and a goatee (which is not even hygienic as a server in the food industry). He paves the setting in that restaurant, and all the servers walk around mimicking this behaviour. There is no warm greeting when you arrive; there is no professionalism, enthusiasm or acknowledgment of your presence when you walk in. I have had to call for service and the waiting staff just stare at you with a cold look of judgment. As a Vaughan resident, it's sad to see that the one place you feel like going to for casual dining, and the taste of nonnas kitchen, is shattered by this due to their poor representation. Deserts Plus, if you're reading this, please take my constructive criticism for your benefit. I speak on behalf of many people. If you don't like your occupations, there's ample opportunity elsewhere. Please don't bring your misery to the dinner tables as loyal customers and first timers witness this unprofessional act as they swallow your food. Your service should always align with the quality of food you serve for a successful business and experience. I hope you can deal with this lapse in customer service accordingly. Food is good, service is TERRIBLE. Always thought the service was bad here but the trade off was a good meal. But last night was it for me. We waited for a table for 2 for 15-20 min, then they seated the people behind us first who also had no reservation who were only waiting for 5 min tops. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT AT ALL COSTS We arrived to this restaurant with a group of 6 people for a birthday dinner. We were told the food was great and huge portions. We were seated upstairs and our appetizers came relatively quickly. The staff don't have any regard for customer service. Fresh, delicious, Italian food! This is, and has been for many years, my "Go-To" place for Italian food! The first time I brought my hubby here, he was skeptical about going out for Italian since his idea is that his Mom/Nonna can make it better... But when he tried the food, he said it tasted "homemade", which says a lot coming from an Italian man.. My favourite is their Veal Parmesan with Rigatoni a la vodka! Yummmm.. Came here for a dinner for three after being recommended to eat here. It was a Wednesday night and it was quite busy. We got quoted an 1 hr wait, and decided to stick it out. However, only 15 minutes later we were brought to a table. The host seemed to have trouble remembering which guests had come before other ones. Perhaps simply writing names and party sizes would be helpful? Especially for such a busy place. We had fried calamari for appetizers and found it to be just okay. Followed by our main meals. Two dishes of chicken parmesean, and a dish of angel hair pesto. As everyone's commented, portions were generous for the price. However, taste was just mediocre. Service from staff was decent, nothing to complain about but nothing to be wow-ed about either. Overall, I would say that lackluster service and mediocre tasting food aren't things that are worth going back for. So unless I had to, I probably won't be back anytime soon. I think we'll call this review, "Have fun extorting, we're not supporting." I'm Italian and I do have a Nonno and a Nonna, grew up with homemade pasta, and stubborn Italian relatives around tables laughing, eating, drinking, arguing, etc., so I was looking forward to eating here after a recommendation from a friend. I visited with three co-workers. The food was alright, and although I don't find anything particularly special about it good or bad, I do think it's reasonably priced especially considering the size of the portions. Here's where things fall flat: As we were leaving, one of the waiters followed us up to the door and asked my friend, who had paid, whether he was satisfied with the service he received. He nodded a curt yes, and said it was fine, and the waiter replied, "Well just so you know, tipping is 18% now, so you know for next time. Okay?" Okay? No, it's definitely not okay. Whether someone tips nothing, a little, something, or a lot, the whole point of the tipping system is you tip what you can, or feel you should based on your circumstances and experience. Exactly when did this become mandatory, and how dare you demand your customers to pay an exorbitant percentage whether they feel they should or not? Forcing customers to pay what you feel your tips should be is not tipping, it's extortion. If there is a problem internally with how your restaurant is making money, or paying you as a waiter, that's your problem, not your customers', and restaurants/owners skimming tips to supplement their income is already illegal in some places, and should be here as well. So sorry Dessert's Plus, but you can serve your rudeness, and not-particularly-special food to someone else. We won't be returning. read more

OK Italian restaurant in Woodbridge is very competitive. There are soooo many good Italian eateries. We had a party of 20 and they had a difficult time serving us. Drinks were slow and the food was served a couple of plates every 2-3 minutes, well do the math the first ones served finished before the last meal arrived. My Linguine Di Mare was ok not the best. I had dinner at Desserts Plus just this past Sunday and my experience was good enough to make me a fan. You know you've landed on a hidden gem when you walk into an Italian restaurant and your group is the only non-Italian one. This place is so popular you usually need to make reservations in advance. 1) Cesar Salad: good! 2) Fried Calamari: everyone else seemed to really enjoy it but I thought it was kind of boring... after having a taste of Kiwe's amazing calamari appetizer, no other calamari dish could measure up. 3) Cozze Marinara: definitely the best I've had so far (seasoned mussels in red sauce), thumbs up!! 4) Veal Piccata: I learned that I'm not really a fan of lemony-tasting meat... 5) Veal Parmigiana: Omg it was soooo good!!! 6) Rigatoni alla Vodka: Good stuff!! Definitely a crowd favorite! In terms of the ambiance It was definitely closest to being a family atmosphere. Coming from an Italian family with a Nonna who set the bar high for my taste standards, I can confidently say that Dessert's Plus is the BEST Italian restaurant in the GTA. Consistent in taste and quality every time I go - I have tried just about everything on the menu and each item is fantastic! All food is prepared fresh and comes out steaming hot from the kitchen. Huge portions and fair prices. I would highly recommend the linguine with rapini and chicken. Also the penne a la vodka. Also EVERYTHING ELSE on the menu :) Only thing I found is that the service is hit and miss, depending on which server you get and which 'boss' is working that night. Atmosphere: Casual, kind of like you are going to your Zio's house for Sunday dinner. Busy ALL THE TIME (but seriously, for this amazing food, it is no wonder). Line up every night of the week. Tons of Italian families dining here (among others) - which I always find to be reassuring - if you are serving Italian food and there are Italians lining up for it, it must be gourmet, authentic, quality food! Food: As I mentioned above, fantastic. If I could rate something better than 10/10 I would. Service: Hit and miss. My recommendation - go for the food not for the service. We here three times within the year and all three times have been disappointed without evening eating the food. The service is really poor. Takes about 5-10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge you and keep in mind the waiting area is small and the staff do you see you there but... After being asked how many (2 people) you wait and wait without an update even when there are tables available. Could be on hold but at least give us a time frame. celebrated my parents 50th Anniversary here because I knew everyone would like their food. Had a selection of appetizers and salad went over very well and all pasta and meat dishes were enjoyed. Had dinner at dessert plus in woodbridge. Accessibility to parking was great. When entering the facility, it took 20 mins for a waiter to place us in a seat. It took an additional 30 mins to get an order in. The restaurant was mildly busy and you can see the waiters posting up by the wall of the dining room having a conversation than working. Received my food without utensils, and waited 10 mins to get a waiter to give us cutlery. The food was very satisfying, but the service was below anyone's standards. I would suggest anyone who is willing to this place a try to order the food to go, because staying in a place like this for dinner, you will leave infuriated. What can I say. I love the food at Desserts Plus and have held several functions there. Although the food is incredibly delicious the service is and has always been slow. Keeping that in mind we always go back and are never disappointed in the quality of the food which is very important to us. You are always guaranteed a huge portion and a delicious meal, make no mistake about it... Although I do agree with many that the service is slow and the waiters, waitresses and hostess should learn to be more friendly, approachable and knowledgeable it's still a great place to eat... We won't be back!! Oh my goodness, what is the attraction for this place?! Upon arrival, it took about 5 - 7 waiters passing us, no eye contact. Then finally this large elderly fellow slowly makes his way, points to our table and throws the menus on the table and walks away..... that was the beginning, so you can imagine how the rest went. The food is OK, it is plan Italian food. Flavours were OK but not anything I couldn't just make with warming up tomato sauce and cooking pasta myself...... when I go out, I am looking for something better that what I can cook for myself. Food took 45 minutes to come after ordering and in the end, they granted themselves an 18% tip (4 adults and 1 child) indicating that is just "the policy". Frankly, the reason I think is no one would tip them if it was left to the customer. We will not be back to this place. This is the last time I will eat there. I gave it few chances since people recommended them to me. Food wasn't all that great and took forever to make and serve. It wasn't very hot when we got it. All the meat had a fishy after taste as well. As if they cooked it all on the same cooking surface... Service is slow. We had to wait 5-10 minutes to be seated even though there were unreserved table available and open. Not that big of a deal... still a little annoying. Our server was very slow to. Twice I had to get up to get her attention. She was either taking with staff behind the bar or on her cell phone. The food here is incredible. The veal and pasta alla vodka are out of this world, with huge portions, which make for delicious lunches that your coworkers are very jealous of, lol. HOWEVER - the service is horrible here. They know that they serve great food, and take advantage of that fact by treating their patrons like dirt. I once waited an hour for my drink order! Take out is no different - they'll give you a time to pick up, and you're always waiting at least 30 minutes before they have your order ready.
