WHY I DO NOT RECOMMEND Against my better judgement I…read morefollowed my Dermatologists recommendation (Dr. Anderson in New Braunfels TX) to have a very small bump on my nose removed through Mohs surgery by Dr. Michael Sorace in April of 2022. I had the small bump for years and was not noticeable. I should have reconsidered after my first consultation with Dr. Sorace when he tried to use some sort of fear factor and said "you need to get this done as soon as possible as your nose may fall off". I kid you not. I just looked incredulously at him and called him on that announcement, and he just chuckled. Anyway, after several weeks passed, I made an appointment for the procedure on a Friday as that was the only day he spent in New Braunfels. What I thought was going to happen and what took place were two different things. Instead of removing the small bump they laid open my entire nose. No one explained exactly what would take place beforehand or would have canceled the entire procedure! I could elaborate more but after almost two years my nose has never been the same and continues to weep!! Make sure you ask all the right questions and are satisfied that you know Exactly what is being done. I also agree with most of the other posts on this site concerning this practice.

The staff does all the local injections for the doctor. the doctor who does the actual cutting and diagnosing in the Mohs procedure was not the doctor closing the wound. the initial office visit for screening and biopsy of the area I brought to his attention. A phone call days later to schedule a surgery time. Then, a surgery date with first come, first served on that surgery day with all patients for surgery showing up at the same time, 8AM. the waiting room was very crowded with people standing at times because there were not enough chairs. after cutting away the lesion, I was sent back to the waiting area until a diagnosis was finished, and next step determined. after several rounds of this, I was finally free of the cancer, and called back to the exam room where another doctor introduced himself and closed the wound. the billing came for the intial office visit, the second visit for surgery, closure, and a second office visit for the second doctor. the insurance I presented to them for Blue Cross and Medicare was not appropriately billed. When I attempted to call and write to the billing department, they answered my call on the first attempt and left a message, but no subsequent attempts to communicate after repeat phone messages left with them and letters mailed mailed to them with their invoices. I have paid them, but my insurance was not billed properly. and I'm out of pocket because of their incompetence, arrogance, and threats to go to collection. Paul V., boerne, tx

Not something that I really wanted to come to terms with but alas you can not hide from Mother Nature! I was greeted by a friendly receptionist which started my visit on a good note. I was then promptly called back to an exam room, thank goodness because sitting in a waiting room is always the worst part. The nurse/medical assistant who took my medical history was super sweet and caring which helped reduce my angst of this dreaded reality of coming of age. Although in my mind I swear their scale is broken, I can assure you it is not. After a very thorough review of my systems, I then waited for the doctor. It seems that nowadays you are just a number in most doctors' offices and I was really hoping this would not be the situation. Dr. Rogers came in and greeted me with a great smile and my fears were relieved. She sat and listened to my concerns. We chatted and giggled about the changes of life and she thoroughly explained why this was happening and how we were going to make it better. You mean I'm normal? This can be treated?! It was like a breath of fresh air! I then was taken for blood work and this is where my journey starts! I look forward to the success that my friends have experienced and am so glad I found a doctor who is so sincere. Thank you Dr. Rogers and staff!

I truly wish I could be writing a glowing review of the Texas Institute of Dermatology and Dr…read more Ghohestani, but unfortunately my experience ended in disappointment, frustration, and what I believe to be unethical and misleading medical practices. I initially contacted the clinic to inquire about treatment for facial spider veins. After reviewing their website, I felt confident moving forward. Their page clearly lists treatment for spider veins under 5cm at $399-$450 per session or a package of 3 treatments for $999. I was fully prepared to pay that amount if recommended. At my first appointment, I was charged a $200 consultation fee, which was expected. Dr. Ghohestani examined the red mark under my eye and confirmed it was a spider vein that could be treated with IPL. He then told me they were offering a special 3-treatment package that day for $699. I agreed and paid $716.48 (after tax). He even stated that while I might only need one treatment, we'd go ahead with all three to ensure the vein didn't return. I scheduled my follow-up accordingly, with the understanding that two more treatments were included. Due to a work conflict, I rescheduled the second appointment, making sure to confirm with the clinic that it was okay to come a bit later than two weeks post-treatment. They approved the change. When I returned, expecting to receive my second laser session, I was surprised to be asked for another $200 visit fee. I questioned this, as I believed I had already paid for a 3-treatment plan. Dr. Ghohestani came into the room and complimented how well the area had healed but said I no longer needed additional treatments. I reminded him that we had already discussed continuing all three treatments regardless, since I had prepaid. Shockingly, he denied ever offering a 3-treatment package, claimed I had only paid for a single session, and told me this appointment was just a follow-up. When I insisted otherwise and showed them their own website listing the 3-treatment option, Dr. Ghohestani left the room and never returned. A young receptionist was sent in to tell me that "the website isn't always accurate" and that the doctor had created a "custom plan" for me. According to her, I had received a "deal" by paying $699 for one treatment -- which contradicts their own published pricing of $399-$450 per session. I requested a refund, stating that I was misled and did not receive what I paid for. Instead, they offered to let me pay an additional $300 to receive the other two treatments -- essentially asking me to pay full price again. I declined and left feeling taken advantage of, disrespected, and deceived. As a Texas business owner myself, I value integrity and transparency with clients -- something this practice sorely lacks. I will be reporting this experience to the Texas Medical Board, and I strongly encourage others to be extremely cautious before seeking treatment here. The way I was misled and then dismissed is unacceptable, especially in a medical setting.
