Today was my birthday and I made the decision to go here for a facial and haircut as a treat. I am…read moreSO glad I did that with my day. Not only was my facial extremely relaxing but Chloe was so knowledgeable and talked to me on a personal level which connected with me and made me feel so safe. I am so excited to see her go on to become an amazing and independent skin specialist! Megan was my hair stylist today and she was beyond wonderful in her eagerness to try something new on my hair today. She was so excited to learn and her instructor (the owner) was very hands on and personable with both of us the entire time I was in the chair. Megan is going to become an amazing stylist and be very successful due to her communication skills and willingness to learn about you as a person while you're in her hands! Checking out, I made friends with the receptionist and felt like the entire staff and students were all excited that I spent my morning with them. I truly enjoyed my time and cannot wait to be back. Great job to the owner of this wonderful school, you really have an amazing business! I'll be recommending this school to anyone and everyone who either needs to find a new career or just needs a spa day!

As a former student from academy of salon and spa I'd LOVE to leave my honest review and save…read morepeople's time! DO NOT COME TO THIS SCHOOL. Wish I would've done my research for the sake of my pockets and mental health!! From a husband with serious allegations (n always around women) to making students work under nasty conditions (toe fungus/scalp infections)... with borderline racist comments to always being the common denominator in all the drama. A circus has more order than this school. People being suspended for no valid reason (personal experience) to teachers constantly being terminated just because (around 6 the year I was there)! So grateful for the times I learned from those teachers because most of the time we were understaffed... All drama backtracks to this elderly lady?! Instead of being the adult??? Shady when it came to people's tuition and missing kits! You sign a handbook at the very beginning and she'll continue to change it to her benefit and you must follow. Avoided her and managed to be nose deep in my business! Killing peoples aspiration for the beauty industry as a hairstylist/aesthetician/teacher... PATRICIA ANDERSON has accidentally created a community who hate/dislike her as business owner/person including myself! I haven't been the first to speak out nor will be the last!

    1. Discriminatory Ban on Spanish Language The school has…read moreimplemented a blanket ban on speaking Spanish anywhere on school property. Administration claims the policy is based on "too many complaints" about this being "America," where "we need to speak English." One client even said, "I moved away from California to get away from that shit." * Students have been suspended for speaking their native language. * Staff have threatened to terminate students who question the rule or inform others of their rights. * The school claims the rule is not discriminatory. When questioned, staff responded with: * "It's just the rules." * "You're not Spanish, so why do you care?" ® (Note: Spanish is a language, not a race. If referring to people from Spain, the term still relates to nationality or culture - not race.) This policy is a likely violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits national origin discrimination in programs receiving federal financial assistance. If this school receives any federal funds, they are legally subject to this law. Additionally, this policy appears to violate students' First Amendment right to freedom of speech. The school cites Arkansas Code § 6-16-104, which requires instruction to be in English. However, the law does not prohibit students or teachers from using other languages, especially in informal settings or to assist English learners. Their interpretation of the law is misleading and harmful. 2. Racist Comments and Inadequate Response A student instructor told two students they were "too much color put together." When this was reported, the instructor was merely sent home for a "self-care day." When questioned, the school's owner replied: * "She was only joking." * "I don't even know what happened." This lack of accountability and failure to address racially charged comments is both unethical and dangerous. Educational institutions have a duty to protect students from racial harassment and to respond seriously and promptly. 3. Manipulated Timekeeping System and Unfair Fines Students are required to clock in by 8:00 AM. If you clock in at 8:01, you are sent home and charged $12.50/ hour for the missed day. However: * The electronic clock-in device is intentionally set two minutes fast. * Students who arrive at 7:58 or 7:59 are marked late and penalized. When brought to staff attention, we were told: * "There's nothing I can do." * "You know the rules." This constitutes unfair business practice, misrepresentation, and potentially fraud, especially when students are charged based on knowingly inaccurate timekeeping. 4. Expired and Unsanitary Products Used on Clients We discovered numerous expired products in the school dispensary, some dating back to 2009. Facial products are: * Separated, missing lids, and unsanitary. * Stored improperly and used without disclosure. While there is no federal law requiring expiration dates on cosmetics, this situation may constitute: * Negligence * Breach of contract * Deceptive trade practices Using expired products on paying clients could affect health and safety and exposes the school to liability. 5. Racial Disparities in Pricing and Lack of Afro Hair Education Hair service pricing is inconsistent and discriminatory: * Flat iron: $4.50 * Silk press (flat iron with Biosilk): $25 for the first hour, additional charges thereafter This upcharge disproportionately impacts Black clients and is based on ethnic hair textures, not time or skill. Further: * The school does not teach Afro-textured hair. * A Black student was made to teach classmates about locs, cornrows, and dreads because instructors said they "can't do Afro hair." This violates: * Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 * Arkansas Civil Rights Act of 1993, which prohibits racial discrimination in service access and delivery.
