WARNING -- Upselling Over Troubleshooting, and Ongoing Negligence After months of frustration, I'm sharing this so others can make an informed decision before hiring this company. The core issue: my saltwater system wasn't producing chlorine. Rather than properly diagnosing the problem, the team repeatedly added stabilized chlorine -- driving my cyanuric acid level above 100 ppm, which now requires a partial drain to correct. When I pushed for answers, they dismissed a simple fix and instead recommended a full system replacement and conversion to Pentair for over $2,800. I replaced the salt cell myself for $400. The system worked perfectly within minutes. A basic 15-minute diagnostic would have identified a worn-out cell. Instead, I was steered toward an unnecessary $2,800 replacement. During this same period, algae developed, my pool crawler was left offline despite my requests to address it, and no one flagged that the system had stopped producing chlorine entirely. I had to catch every failure point myself -- which is exactly what I was paying them to prevent. Eight months later, it got worse. We discovered their technician had put DE (diatomaceous earth) into our filter -- a filter that is not compatible with DE. This caused damage that we are now paying to have cleared and repaired. This was not a series of honest mistakes. This was a pattern of negligence, misdiagnosis, and upselling at the customer's expense. Wrong choice for pool service. These guys fail at the basic level. It started with incorrect billing on multiple occasions, pool techs advising that service was completed on your pool but sending another clients pool picture, lack of response ( text) from main office after hours, lack of pool tech basic cleaning ( brushing, skimming top of pool , etc). Desert Pool Tech had resurfaced my pool and did such a great job that when I had an issue with my pump, they were my first call. After a big storm, I had an issue with water not reaching the pump. It was crucial to get it fixed quickly because of the dirt from the storm that had filled my pool. Desert Pool Tech responding immediately and helped me get it working again before the pool went green. This saved me from having to purchase multiple chemicals. About a year ago I was doing business with this company we always had a problem my pool always was green and filthy. So I contacted John. He told me because my filter is not good. so I said OK let's change the filter if that's the problem. so he change the filter and we still had green and filthy pool . that's the receipt for it. . I was paying all this money and we couldn't even use the pool with desert Pool Tech. John couldn't figure out so I canceled my service with them. I hired another company we still have a green pool and then now this new company telling me because my pool has a filter that is not big enough for the big pool that I have. So John install small size filter that Now it goes to the garbage. Normal people only clean the filter or backwash the filter twice a year I have to do it every two months and pay about $130 only for cleaning the filter. Until I change it to a proper size. If I could give negative stars I would. This company came out to look into our spa issue - as it wasn't heating up. They identified the problem and said they were going to order the parts to fix it, and then we didn't hear from them for 2 weeks. We called multiple times to check on the part status and no one called us back. We finally got a hold of them and they said they were sending someone over to do the install and they didn't show up the day they said would. We called them the next day and they said their tech had a dental emergency and re-scheduled us for a few days later. Surprise surprise, but no one showed the day of the re-schedule. We then called them multiple times with no response. This process when on for over a month and a half and we finally ended up calling another company. Stay far, far away from this company - they were THE WORST at communication. read more

Do not use this company. The owner John Hinton is a scumbag and does not know his own craft. He installed the wrong heater at my home and then said that there was no way to return it. I then had to purchase an additional heater, luckily I had another home to use that heater. Desert Pool Tech also installed a pool light that was defective. I had to call and text several times for a week before I could get a response. Their customer service is awful. Once John finally responded (miracle), he said that he had to wait on the manufacturer to get back to him. This company is horrible. There are much better pool companies out there, do not use Desert Poll Tech. read more

I made an appointment and got a call just before cancelling. The individual I spoke to was extremely unprofessional and told me that giving me a quote to build a new pool would be "a waste" of his time because he didn't think I was "prepared to spend $90k." He said this without having met or spoken to me before. He asked if I was getting other quotes and was upset that I would not give him details about them. Within 1 month of service John had already diagnosed what was causing my 1 yr old pool pump to malfunction and put me in touch with the warranty company to get it fixed!
