This is the original and is very colorful and honestly the first image I think of when I think of the south end community. Overall a really cool mural for a community that is starting to add quite a few nice murals. Nice to see the area get a facelift and doing it with uplifting messages.

I didn't find the Garden but I did find the historical marker that describes the site and the…read morehistory. It is located at the corner of Bradley and Presidents. The marker reads, "The Grotto (D.X. Murphy & Bros., Architects) was dedicated in 1927 as a place for contemplation on St. Joseph Infirmary grounds. Two-story, half-domed, concrete apse is faced on inside with stones and rubble. Modeled on natural grotto at Lourdes, SW France, where Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous in 1858." And on the reverse, "Their statues adorned Louisville Grotto. Masonry walls enclose Grotto's Garden. Fourteen arched niches, since filled in, held mosaics of Stations of the Cross, events from end of Jesus' life. Dwane Beckhart painted modern replacements. Named state landmark by Ky. Heritage Council, 2001." I'll come back and look harder. [Review 20182 overall - 223 in Kentucky - 1159 of 2023.]

Mural located on the outside of popular eatery complex colonial gardens brag pats tribute tot he…read morecurrent gardens and past history located in the Iroquois Neighborhood of Louisville Kentucky. Over the years colonial gardens has been several things. At one point it was a small zoo that got a special shout-out from rock king Elvis Presley, it was a tan down apartment complex for years and most recently it has been regentrified into a cool food scene that has about 4-5 bars/restaurants that share a patio creating the colonial gardens. The mural itself features the name and the original iconic white building that has been standing on the property through all of its different face lifts. Overall solid and cool tribute to the colonial gardens and a nice piece to the fun and new atmosphere that exists here.

I have played ping pong here with a girl friend a few years ago. It was awesome! So much fun and a…read moregreat memory. There was tournaments going on the evening we went. Like people were really serious about ping pong had knee pads and wrist braces. It was fun to see. We fit in being two amateur players playing for fun. But now I hear there's no ping pong? When are ping pong nights and when or what do you offer for ceramics and wheel throwing? There is no email on any sites. Just a phone number to call.

Cleverly plays off wall art murals in surrounding large cities in Kentucky that all seems to have a giant colorful painting that says "greetings from". So kinda a cool homage to that. The piece includes shots from popular attractions at the very same park toy are visiting. Overall cool and fun piece that I'm sure makes for fun photo ops and cover photos for scrap books and memory files.

So a solid area for public art lovers. Me qbs my friend and fellow yelper Jeremy J have been going around ten Lousiville area neighborhoods and adding local public art to yep we came across this piece. Not in the greatest part of town but this is still a quick and nice photo op and a really cool piece overall. Not sure if the artist is a fan of the Phoenix bird legend or of it is a tribute to nearby neighborhood Phoenix hill. Either way it's a nice addition to the local public art mural scene in the city.

I made my own free outdoor art gallery and it was pretty fun. The Phoenix mural is another piece by local artist Damon Thompson who has really beautified Louisville with many of his paintings. There are over 40 of them since May of last year. It is located by the Phoenix Hill neighborhood, hence the phoenix. The piece is not Thompson's typical type of work. Most of his art is of famous people. It is still a nice and detailed Phoenix. Thompson does wonderful work and it is on display all around the city for everyone to see for free. There is no easy way to park and see the mural. It is located on a very busy and well traveled street. There are some streets that you can park on that are in walking distance and there are some private lots that you may be able to park, jump out real quick and take a look and hope you don't get towed. , it is not a very long stop anyway and you probably could accomplish what you want to in the comfort of your vehicle. Maybe even a drive by.

I especially enjoy the butterfly and blue branches on the side of the building! If you're in the Shelby Park area, be sure to check it out!

Me and my friend and fellow yelper Jeremy J was spending a Saturday int he Shelby park and Nulu neighborhood to check out a few places and see some public art when we spotted this location. We were headed to red top for a hot dog and to ply ping pong when we noticed this. Within easy walking distance of this mural is a hour 7-10 other murals so if you are a fan of public art or murals then this is a great starting point. Overall cool piece of work that fits in nicely with the building theme and other pieces of art work in the neighborhood.

I'm not sure exactly what is going on this painting or what the meaning behind hippie River is but I still enjoy it. Very fun to look at and a nice photo op and addition to the rapidly growing Lousiville public art scene. A few buildings down you will find another really cool piece of public art mural on the side of the Six forks burger joint. The whole neighborhood is chock full of public art. So if you are a fan of things like this then I'd recommend checking out this neighborhood

But it is normally coming from the other direction and I don't look back at it, or I have already turned off the road before getting to this piece. It looks like something that belongs on the side of (or even inside) a yoga studio, not the side of a blind/shade company. Sort of Dali-esque in the style and subject matter. Artsy fartsy pretty mural on Preston. Worth a drive past, if nothing else. But do yourself a favor and take the time to visit the other murals in the area too!
