I was lucky enough to find an electronics store near my hotel & they were selling a transformer. It was rather bulky & heavy so the salesman said that I should go to a music store named Klangfarbe. I took the subway to this music store & when I arrived I asked one of their employees if they could sell me a transformer hopefully that wasn't too heavy. He said he'd check with his technician to see what they could do. To my surprise they called Mark Bass which is headquartered in Italy & got instructions on how to open up the amp & manipulate the wiring so that it worked in Europe. They also showed me how to put it back to the original wiring once I was back in the USA. All of this @ no charge to me so I thought what a great store. Later I thought why couldn't Mark Bass not have given me instructions on how to do that. Most amps nowadays have a switch for the change in electric current between Europe & North America. I'm eternally grateful to Klangfarbe for their help & kindness & I highly recommend them to all musicians traveling or that live in Vienna.

This place offers private rooms with piano to practice from 3-7 euros an hour, depending on the room. They also have dual piano rooms and large rehearsal room for chamber music. Need to register online to book rooms, could have better sound insulation, and AC in the rooms would be nice. Gets the job done though.

What you can do at the Klaviergalerie: Buy a piano, sell a piano, fix a piano, piano tuning (will…read moremake house calls for 88 euros), rent rooms for practicing or teaching beginning at 2,50 per hour, rent saal for practicing at 25 euros per hour or for concerts (prices vary), rent ton studio for recordings beginning at 99euros for 30 min. I teach and practice out of the Klaviergalerie a lot and have yet to find something in Vienna more convenient and as cheap for private lessons. The small rooms with one piano begin at only 2,50 per hour. The front desk service and online booking is great and the location is so convenient. Watch out for the 24 hour cancellation policy! They also don't mind if you leave flyers and cards behind for your private teaching. I wish there weren't any "through rooms" where people can actually walk through while you are practicing or teaching, but thank goodness these are only a last resort booking option for me. As far as group rehearsals, the larger rooms work, but you can never rely on what kind of piano or how many pianos are in the rooms (sometimes you show up and can't even fit in the room), in what condition the piano will be in, and will the room be clean. Lighting is also a problem because most of the rooms don't have windows. However, I am a frequent booker and until I have my own studio, Klaviergalerie it is!

The owners are friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable - well connected in the collector community and music scene (both in Vienna and abroad). If you're an experienced performer looking for high-end instruments, they won't disappoint. A beautiful, smooth-sounding Italian violin was well priced @ $70K USD, another German @ $20K USD played great, used a $13K bow. (They have a nice range of student violins, celli and other instruments as well, and extremely nice sounding newer instruments). Blue Danube is the real deal, connoisseurs of fine violins and the nicest people you could meet. They've been in the biz for years. Don't settle for less. Looking forward to staying in touch!
