Bad Homburgs Kurpark is one of the largest and most beautiful city parks in Germany, and an…read moreexcellent place for an autumn stroll. Designed in the classic English landscape style, it covers 44 hectares and includes trees of both local species as well as exotic Asian and North American varieties. The garden is the work of several designers: the oldest section was designed by the famous Royal Prussian Garden Director Peter Joseph Lenné. The the western section, the so-called "Jubiläumspark", was laid out in 1913 to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the reign of Kaiser Wilhelm II. At the center of the Kurpark lies the "Brunnenallee", a wide avenue lined with chestnut trees, along which are located most of Bad Homburgs medicinal springs, as well as the historic "Kaiser-Wilhelms-Bad" and the "Brunnensälchen", which houses the famous Bad Homburg casino.

You buy your tickets at a little booth with a window and then go over to the lift where you board your tram to the top of a wooded mountain. Then, just sit back and relax (or sit back and take a thousand photos). Boppard is right at a large bend in the river, so the view is particularly lovely. At the top they make you get off the tram, but you may either get right back on, stay awhile at the top (there are trails and a restaurant overlooking the river's bend), or you can hike or mountain bike back down (the lift can carry bikes too). If you plan on riding down, make sure you know when the last tram boards, or you'll be stuck walking. We were short on time, so we didn't have as much time to explore and hike as we'd like to have, but it was definitely worth the trip. The hike down looked like it would have been a nice one - not too challenging, but challenging enough to stay interesting. There were some mountain bikers headed up as we were coming down, and they looked suited up for a good adventure. There are several little restaurants and biergartens at the bottom, so you can chill out at the end of your little mountain excursion.
