We had a nice conversation while she took her time to meticulously cut my hair and that is something that other hairdressers in the chain/franchise type Salons just don't do! We were greeted right away with a friendly smile, and Toi was able to fit my grandfather in for an appointment. Toi took his time giving my grandfather a proper shave and cut. He remained patient as my grandfather repeated the same things and just truly made my Grampy feel good. Toi shared stories of his family and life experience, and also his gratitude - to a stranger who was in desperate need of some extra love and kindness. When I was ready to pay, Toi refused our payment. He told us he could not accept our money and again thanked my grandfather for his service. An act of kindness like this always goes a long way, but today it was exceptionally kind. My grandfather lost his son, my uncle, just two days ago and has been truly heartbroken since. The last two days have been filled with such pain and emotion for him. I am forever an advocate of supporting small businesses. Our experience at Slick's was very special and I would recommend them 100x over. I want to express my deepest gratitude to Toi for not only making my grandfather's day, but also mine.

I want to be clear the kids left saying they liked the haircuts (they didn't want to be rude) and my husband really wasn't paying close attention, it was totally on us to speak up but we didn't. When I called and explained, I didn't blame the barber and I offered to pay to have them re-cut, I wasn't confrontational and explained I wasn't mad, but the kids were bummed and didn't actually like how they looked. What lost my business is how he handled this. Didn't listen at all, got super defensive and rude. But it turned out to be a blessing in disguise because we ended up at Royal Blendz in Salisbury and the gentleman couldn't have been nicer. I didn't think the haircuts were even fixable, but he made them look great.
