Dr. Park fixed my torn labrum in late 2023 that was a result of a ski injury in 2021. The surgery was minimally invasive and my recovery went much faster than expected, and I was skiing again 3 months after the surgery (don't try this at home!). Two years later my shoulder is basically at 100% with just occasional stretching required. In fact I'm skiing right now which is what reminded me of Dr. Park and I figured I'd add this review. I give at least partial credit of the fast recovery to his skill, and I will go to him again for any future injuries, knock on wood. read more

I inherited Dr. Dennis Park from my pervious doctor who retired in that office/network . This new doctor as well as his staff are cold and indifferent to patients, very unhelpful and sometimes rude. I got the MRI result for my knee and called the nurse and wondering about how to send an email to the doctor. His staff was completely unhelpful, absolutely didn't care about helping me solve this issue, and in the end refused to help me. Whenever I went in to see the doctor, he showed no patience with my questions, always trying to dismiss my concerns or provide additional information on my condition.. I have since found out from other friends that they have had similar experiences at this office. So beware, I now go to the orthopedic department in Burlingame hospital instead, and the service is much better and quicker there too. read more

I got my radial surgery done with Dr. Park where they put in a plate for the broken radius. I got an appointment within a day of my accident and had a surgery a week from then. Dr.Park's office is very responsive. Dr. Park also takes time to explain things to you and explains the pros and cons of treatments pretty well. I was worried about my numbness in my forefinger, and rather than pushing another surgery, Dr. Park strongly recommended to give time for the injury to heal and wait to get a carpel tunnel surgery. I went to the office thinking I had an appointment. There was nothing on the books. I immediately felt upset, because I was scared about my shoulder. The front office person was so nice and still got me in that day, almost immediately. I literally cried tears of joy! Dr. Park is great. His disposition is great because he was sympathetic and gave me a good amount of PT to make my shoulder stronger. He is someone I would go back to again and again. I came here when I was having issues with me left shoulder rotator. First time I saw Dr. Park, he recommended physical therapy. Asked if there's anything I should avoid, he didn't really tell me things I should avoid or do. I ended up having accute pain a few weeks later and the shoulder was super inflamed. Later learned it was likely from doing some overhead exercises. This time I came back and got an MRI. The results came back and Dr. Park said he was in disagreement with the radiologist on whether there was a tear or not. He said he would need to go in to find out if my shoulder had a tear and fix it or clean up the calcium build up. I went and got a second opinion from a great orthopedic surgeon from Stanford who said I definitely shouldn't get surgery and should instead focus on rehab. Seems like my first injury could have been avoided. And my overall experience felt very much like the office is just processing patients without much attention or care. I went to see Dr. Park when I had a knee injury from overtraining. I have to echo what another reviewer wrote. He has very weak interpersonal and communication skills which are so essential when you're trying to get info on your injury and how to proceed. To make matters worse I had to battle with his front office staff to get approval for the MRI I needed. My insurance company said I needed pre-approval for the test, and no matter how many times I stated this to the front office staff they fought me on it. The MRI cost over $5000 so you can imagine I wanted to be sure I'd be covered. I escalated the matter and they finally, begrudringly, got me the pre-approval. However I could feel the resentment coming over the phone from them and it was really uncomfortable, unprofessional and unhelpful. Once I had the MRI films it took more than 2 weeks to get back into see Dr. Park, and he stared at the films without saying anything. I finally asked. "What do you see?" "What do you suggest I do to heal?" and got a bunch of vague answers. I have never had an injury this serious and honestly at San Mateo Orthopedic I felt like just another number, just another injury for them to deal with. So awful! So enter again the joy of a second opinion. I got my films and went to see Dr. Alexander Sah in Palo Alto (within the practice of John T. Dearborn and Associates). He was wonderful! Excellent listener, very compassionate and made a suggestion for treatment that hadn't been mentioned to me. Today I am feeling MUCH better, and am so relieved to have access to such a skilled and kind doctor. Check him out if you're looking for an A+ orthopedic surgeon. I do not normally write reviews, but I am so grateful to Dr. Park! I had a bad bicycle crash and broke my clavicle. It was displaced and affected my shoulder and scapula. I was in pain and fearful that I would be unable to do my favorite sports of windsurfing, skiing and golf. Dr. Park performed surgery to put in place a metal plate to hold the bone and within 3 days I was out of pain. I followed his instructions carefully and within a month I could tell it was healing perfectly. It has been 3 months and I went skiing last week for 5 days and I could not believe how wonderful it was to be normal again. Dr. Park is not only a skilled surgeon, but compassionate and a good listener to be sure everything is going okay. He is my hero. read more

Oh Boy.. Where do I start? Bear with me. I had a PCL tear after falling on a metal box snowboarding. Three weeks after the injury I went to see Dr Park. He briefly examined my knee and told me there were nothing serious and was about to send me home. I emphasized that I had pain squatting and it didn't get better over time, so he did additional test and told me I had a PCL tear and needs MRI to know if I need surgery. He let me go home WITHOUT A BRACE. A week later I had another appointment with Dr Park. He told me it was a complete tear. He showed me a picture of the MRI and told me the PCL peeled off from the tibia. I examined my MRI hundreds of times I knew what every picture looks like. What he showed me wasn't my MRI!!! He said for young athletic people, they choose to do the surgery, which refers to me. Surgery is the first option he gave me, and told me PCL doesn't heal on its own. After I told him I wanted to try non-operative treatment, he gave me a simple hinged brace for ACL MCL PCL. It's not even specifically designed for my injury! He gave me a physical therapy form and the only instruction on it is "Left PCL". Another observation is that he rushed during both appointments and didn't seem to care to know all the details or make sure the patient understands everything. I started to doubt if his diagnose and treatment were correct, since I've done a lot of research online myself on PCL injury, and the conclusion I drew was very different from what he told me, so I decided to see a doctor at UCSF sports medicine to get a second opinion. After a half week, the doctor at UCSF told me I had a tear in the middle of the PCL(clearly shown in the MRI). Dr Park told me it was peeled off the tibia. The UCSF doctor told me isolated PCL tear rarely needs a surgery and he gave me a PCL jack brace so I can keep my knee straight 24/7 for three weeks before seeing him again. His resident was very thorough examining my knee and explaining the MRI page by page. The doctor at UCSF gave me two pages with very detailed instruction for physical therapy. What a difference! I felt like Dr Park didn't take my injury seriously. If I continue to use the wrong brace he gave me, I'll likely need a surgery since I won't heal properly. In my personal opinion, Dr Park is inexperienced and unprofessional in dealing with my injury. I wouldn't recommend other people to go to see him. read more

Butcher of San Mateo I experienced a truly unfortunate circumstance with Dr. Park. On my day of surgery I was made to lay on the operating table for nearly four hours waiting for a Dr. that would not answer his phone or have anyone else answer his phone for him. The anesthesiologist had to put me to sleep twice because of anxiety while we waited for the Dr. to show up. The Dr. eventually showed up four hours late with a story about a surgery that didn't go well. I of course asked him if he was okay to perform my surgery due to the late hour and the lengthy wait. He assured me that he was fine and they we would be able to proceed. I was so drugged up that I didnt walk away from the whole thing. A week after the surgery the biceps tendon came loose from the attachment and now I am back to square one. He had the nerve to charge me for the surgery and send me to collections for refusing to pay. I called to try to schedule a repair but I was told that I had to pay my bill or he would not even accept an appointment. I honestly could not believe that a doctor would ask me to pay for a surgery that he screwed up because he was four hours late. Now my bicep is still torn and I have nerve damage in my elbow. Not once did he ever say that he was sorry for this and he never fully explained what happened. Have someone else work on your body or your loved ones as I wouldn't let Dr, Park touch an enemy, its just too cruel! read more

Horrible communication and interpersonal skills. Avoid, especially for pediatric patients! I took our 6yr old to have his cast adjusted as part of the fiberglass was cutting into his skin, rubbing it raw. We were forced to go to this clinic as we had some time restrictions and this was the only office that was within the HMO network and had an appointment opening to get a cast on for a wrist fracture. First bad impression: Dr. Park walks into the room, doesn't say "hello", "how are you" or any other normal preambles, and completely ignores the parent who is standing next to the pediatric patient. Just makes a beeline to the pediatric patient, doesn't bother to ask what is wrong but just starts checking the cast. Second bad impression: When I tried to explain the situation, Dr. Park barely glances or acknowledges my comments. Third: Dr. Park does a horrible job of explaining what he's about to do with a vibrating saw (to trim the offending fiberglass pieces away) it was unbelievable. He did such a bad job of communicating to a 6yr old, by the time he starts cutting, my son is crying in fright and in pain. Even when a child is crying, Dr. Park made absolutely no effort to alleviate the fear, nor try to solicit help from a parent to calm the child. He didn't even bother to say "it's ok. it will be over soon" or any kind of simple comforting word. just stayed silent and sawed away at the cast. VERY BAD. His attitude makes me suspect he does not have a child of his own (clueless how to interact with a child), or is just utterly insensitive to patients' emotional needs. Fourth: When he's done cutting away, he basically says, 'that should do it" and just walks out of the room. No effort in asking "any questions", "how does it feel?" "anything else rubbing or hurting", or any kind of follow up question to his procedure. I had to speak up quickly to try to stop him to ask questions and managed to stop him when he was out in the hallway already. Even when I started asking questions, he made absolutely no effort to come back into the room, but just hurriedly answered the question as "hand-wavy" as possible (just leave the area rubbed raw as-is and it will be fine in a few days") and left. I have NEVER met a doctor with such poor communication skills nor bedside manner, and I have seen A LOT of doctors in my life. I found him to completely lack in empathic capability, which is paramount when working with a pediatric patient. If it weren't for the HMO restriction, I would never have chosen this doctor. After my son's cast is off, I hope to never come back to this clinic. If in an unfortunate situation where we need to see an orthopedist in the future and we are referred here again, I will ask for another, as I will refuse to deal with a doctor with such incompetent communication and interpersonal skills. There are many other doctors who are much more pleasant to work with and just as competent who deserves our business. read more

My elderly Mother fell and broke her hip and Dr Park was called in by the hospital. He was patient and caring and the surgery was a success with a quick recovery. A few months after that she fell and dislocated her shoulder (the ER popped it back). Given the specific injury he said surgery had a 50/50 success rate and given her age surgery was a bit risky. He recommended physical therapy to start. We agreed and it was the right way to go. She kept things exciting and broke the other hip so surgery was necessary but it went well and she had a speedy recovery. We'd recommend him. read more

I can always get a fast appointment, which is really important for orthopedic injuries. He has zero arrogance, I can ask any question and it will get answered. Dr park can't seem to remember from one appointment to the next conversations you have with him reference the medication you are prescribed for pain yet there are notes in the computer. Dr. Park very quickly diagnosed my wrist pain as DeQuervains tenosynovitis. He gave me three treatment choices and we narrowed it down to one. It was rather immediately successful. What with the current reimbursement problems, I fully understand why he must move along quickly, to send more time with patients whose conditions warrant it. When My13 year old son broke his leg last year it was the most painful experience in his life. He suffered for days because we couldn't find someone willing to operate on him. Dr Park was kind enough to take his case immediately and do a great job getting him fixed up. That is something We will forever appreciate. My son was so heavily impacted by that experience he now wants to become an orthopedic when he grows up. That sense of mission has turned him around academically from an unmotivated slacker to a highly driven and now successful achiever. My sons life has been hugely and positively impacted by Dr Park. Leo 08/04/2014 I reffered to Dr Park after I had an ER visit at Peninsla Hospital for severe pain to my old hip fractures from 1975 which were never surgically repaired. He injected my hip with cortisone, and after 2 or 3 weeks I am pain free, and can hold off with surgery for awhile, and even go to back to work at the V.A Hospital in Palo Alto. I had Achilles tendon surgery with Dr. Park. I chose him simply because the Extended Hours hospital recommended him. I have been extremely pleased with him, his staff and the whole process. I am not sure I agree with some of the other reviews. He is a good communicator, not too little or not too much. He is smart and witty and was able to provide good advice during our visits. He performed surgery about a week ago so time will tell how it works out but he was very experienced in doing so and everything went flawlessly. If you need a sports medicine orthopedist in the area, definitely consider Dr. Park (my wife--who plays hockey and will probably break something one day--was happy we found him). read more

I was referred to Dr. Park after I had a shoulder injury. He worked with me offering all alternatives to having surgery. After 6 months of therapies and my not receiving any measurable pain relief, Dr. Park recommended a MRI and surgery a few months later. He explained the entire process, answering all questions throughout the next 18 months and giving me the confidence I needed to complete the recuperation process. I am now pain free and totally healed. I want to thank Dr. Park for his attentiveness, support and a successful surgery. I would not hesitate to call upon him again for any future issues. I have just read many of the reviews and I am shocked. I have had shoulder surgery by Dr. Park. 1. we exhausted Physical Therapy before he recommended surgery. A few years later I was living in Switzerland I had a doctor there tell me had to do surgery. Dr. Park recommended PT again. So I disagree with the person who said he just wants to operate that was definately not my experience. I have had several appointments over the years with him and always found him to be genuine and caring.. Front office staff well they could use some friendlier people up there. My daughter went to see Dr Park as a follow up to an emergency room visit for a broken arm. In reviewing the X-rays, Dr Park noticed something faint on the xrays that was not notice by the orthopedic doctor in the ER which might indicate a more severe situation affecting a growth plate. We had left the ER with the impression that it was a mild break and all was well. I applaud Dr Park for his attention to detail and his vast knowledge in orthopedics. I also feel that this is one of the few doctors that I've run into that is not afraid to recommend options that might not be popular with my insurance company. I'm not sure what happen to the other reviewer, but we had a much different experience. Dr Park was very friendly and personable to my daughter. I would much rather have this doctor who knows his stuff and really proved that he is an expert in his field, than someone with a big smile that miss calls situations. Took my 13 years old son with dislocated knee. Didn't know the doctor just call first office from online and went as emergency.... Before we actually entered the office i read the doctor review on yelp .. Right on the parking...it was not great but I decided to go anyway had no choice. And you know what I made a great decision . They made an ex ray and every body were nice and helpful. The most important is , a year ago my son hurt another knee and we went to a different doctor in SF with long experience who wanted to do the surgery right a way to stabilize the knee.....and you know what I didn't do it and after seeing dc Park Dennis I was glad I didn't, dc Park showed me my son bones and told me to only use the brace for this injury because until my sons grows plates are fully grown they can't do surgery. Can u believe it I could ruined my sons grows with the doctor before....so I conclusion , doctor is honest and using his heart and brain to make decisions and suggestions to his clients. read more

We saw Dr. Park today for my 6 year old son's potential broken arm. We found him to be professional, caring and great with my child. Dr. Park also seemed to genuinely care about my child's injury, how he fell and his recovery. My son was initially fearful of being in a doctor's office, but Dr. Park made him feel right at ease. I didn't feel hurried in the office and he took all the time necessary so I felt comfortable leaving his office knowing the problem, outcome, recovery process and what I could expect in the different stages of healing. He even gave us some physical therapy exercises we could do at home and made it into a game so that my child would find it enjoyable. I would highly recommend him. read more
