'Delta Wines', I always think, sounds like the name of a femme fatale in some yet to be written science fiction odyssey. However, sorry to disappoint, but it's actually the name of small convenience store on the Bristol Road South in Northfield (not exactly deep space or the rings of Saturn or anything along those lines). Although one of many small shops of its kind in the area, I like to use Delta Wine, as the woman behind the counter is never anything less than very friendly, always asking how I am and giving me a hand if I can't find what I'm looking. It's also very well priced, with one deal that I wish they would get rid of, purely from the point of view of my liver, is the extremely cheap £5.50 for 8 cans of Fosters larger. read more
