Sturgeon Falls KOA - View from our tent site

Ah, peace and quiet. My husband I had been tent camping our way from Iowa on our way to Montreal…read moreand Sturgeon Falls KOA was a reasonable 4.5 hour drive from Mackinaw City, so we gave it a shot. We called ahead because we were going to arrive late. The very nice (even by Canadian standards) gentleman helping me with our same day reservations, arranged to leave a site map on the back door of what would be a closed camp office. We arrived around 9:30 and one of the owners greeted us. We found the map that was left for us, the owner got us settled and even picked us up and delivered a bag of ice for our cooler. Our site was beautiful! The nearest tent camper was about 150ft away, we were steps away from a river inlet and had a choice of two areas with really wonderful bathrooms with showers and Laundry!!!! They even had an outdoor kitchen. As the sun went down we were eaten alive by bugs because of our proximity to the water so we spent a lovely evening in the tent. No complaints. We had a great nights sleep. The only noise during the night were bull frogs looking for love. The morning was beautiful and bug free. I met some nice campers while I enjoyed my Tim Hortons and had a leisurely pack up. Great place! Don't forget to ask the owner for a river tour in his aluminum skiff. I didn't have time to partake but for 5$, I should have made the time.

We booked an appointment four months ago and told him we want third floor only, I called again a…read moremonth ago and mentioned again to them third floor and They said no problem. This is our regular hotel that we stayed at all the time and we've stayed here many times before. When we got there the third floor was not promised to us and we got the second floor, the problem with this is that you hear the people walking above you. We couldn't understand the receptionist and the manager was there and had to tell us what she was saying. We were very upset that they couldn't hold up their end and tell us about the third floor, they did give us a discount. There is no water pressure in the sink at all, however the shower is fine, but if you intend to sit in the bathtub you can't lock the drain it doesn't work. We have to continually log on to wifi as in the past we never had this problem. We came in after 10 o'clock last night and the front door was closed we had to knock on the door so they can let us in, I have never been to a hotel where you had to knock or use your pass code to get in through the front entrance. They said it was for security reasons, I guess the neighbourhood has changed and gotten rougher. In general it's very clean, but not up to our expectations, can I recommend this hotel not likely. The Sunday before we left I went down to check with my total bill will be for check out tomorrow and she quoted me $993, which was not correct she said she made an error was $924. The reason behind that is every time you log onto the Internet and you add your name and your room number it charges you again which she removed. When we are here in the past we had no problems no extra charges. I asked her about the additional 20% off it is wasn't on their computer system and she left a message for the manager Tim to call her and let her know. Now I get a knock on my door, asking to fix my shower curtain and there's nothing wrong with that guy had the wrong room. I went to check out and Peter told me that they took off $20.00 a day and told him Tim said 20% a day, he made the adjustments. When I returned home I checked online my bank statement and it showed that they swipe my card for the four nights plus $20 a night, just as we were told was only supposed to be swiped $20 a night as a security deposit. This is not the hotel it was the day it is changed, very disappointing

I honestly didn't have high expectations for the hotel but the review were great so I decided to…read morestay here. There aren't many if any 4 star hotels in Sudbury. I think what made the Fairfield great was the hotel is spotless. It is one of the cleanest hotels I have ever stayed in. The bed was very comfortable which is also really important.

One time, at band camp...no just kidding; one time when I was 14, there was a band called…read moreFurnaceface and I really liked this band. I heard they were coming to Sudbury and were going to play an all ages show so I did everything I could to come up with a bit of money and a ride, grabbed my best friend, and experienced my first ever live music show - at the Townehouse Tavern. This first experience has defined a lot of my life - music choices, friend choices, etc. I've gone on to see many shows and have many drunken (and sober) nights at the Townehouse. When I go home for a visit, it's always on the agenda. The bar has been going strong for close to 25 years now, booking a wide array of bands and musicians, some barely known and some well known. For a city like Sudbury, it's truly an impressive thing. I thought that perhaps I was being biased by giving the Townehouse 5 stars, based on my affinity for live music and pubs and the fact that there is a serious lack of each in Sudbury. But I don't think that's it - this is just a genuinely great bar, down to earth, good music, good people, good times. When you're booking amazing talent like Bedouin Soundclash, Bocephus King, etc. and won't submit to crap music, you deserve 5 stars. I can't sum it up much better than Paul does on the Townehouse website - there is a great about us section that outlines the history of the venue. My only complaints would be that the washrooms are kind of yuck and that the bouncers are sometimes a bit jerky because they work at the coolest and most 'alternative' bar in town. But, that counts for a few minutes of your night and then you're whisked back into 1994 or 2000 or whenever it was that you first happened to start frequenting the Townehouse - and I mean this is a good way. Your friends are there, a good band is playing, you play a round of foos and drink some beer. Could you really ask for anything more on a Sudbury Saturday Night?
