We also learned the reason why the trumpeter abruptly stops playing his bugle call (Hejnał Mariacki) every hour. We met Victoria and the rest of the group (about 25 people) near the Barbican. Just look for the yellow umbrella with their logo. It initially rained in the beginning, but it cleared up as we were on our way through Old Town. There is so much history in Kraków. This tour gave us insight into the most important museums to visit as well as the architecture surrounding us. There was the Ironman competition obstacle that we had to overcome when approaching the castle. She quickly & professionally navigated our way through it without any interruption to the tour. It ended up being a sunny day once we reached the castle walls. The tour of the castle grounds was the highlight with its beautiful gardens. We will choose Walkative again in the future. They have walking tours in many European cities. I first learned about it through a Yelp friend's review of her Barcelona tour. Thanks Helene! Knowing what I know now, I wish we had booked one for Plaszow and the Jewish Quarter. They offer so many different tours. It's absolutely worth it! On that note, make sure you tip your guide well. There are two guides: Dominique & a Turkish gentleman who's name I didn't catch. They aren't always both on the tour, sometimes one goes ahead to the next establishment. This was very interesting in that the tour guides had a plethora of information to share about the making of vodka (information overload). However, one of the guides does not drink which is odd given he is running a vodka tour. And the guides only knew about Polish vodkas, they had no idea about vodkas from around the world and had never heard of Tito's! I know Tito's isn't distributed or sold everywhere in the world but given their market share in the vodka industry, I would expect the guides to be familiar with other brands. We went to 4 different establishments, we walked to each one so wear comfortable shoes. The first place was kind of an old style Polish pub/restaurant where the waitresses wore costumes and the decorations were dated. We tried a potato based vodka and the bison grass vodka. The food served here was excellent!! Especially the cabbage dish. I would eat something small before the tour but not a big meal as you will want to try everything. They claim that if you eat fatty food in Poland, you won't get drunk while sipping vodka. But by mid tour you will have a buzz and I have a high tolerance. Most of this vodka is pure so 96% proof and above! The second place was a stand up bar that was very small but it was various flavors of vodka. Here you can buy vodka to take home, they will bubble wrap to& package the bottles for flight. Try the chocolate vodka! The tour guides will likely serve quince & elderflower; they will tell you the Chocolate is more of a liquor but it is so well made over there!! The third place we went to was another one of those old timey bars where the decorations are dated. Here we dined on bread and herring with onion but we tried the purest form of vodka. This is the only time we did a shot to drink it fast. It was so good!! Lastly, we ended up at a Jewish prayer room turned pub that was really cool! The vodka here was the best on the tour. Our group ordered about 5 rounds, we couldn't stop!! This place had wifi too.

It was like spending an afternoon with a friend. We asked a lot of questions, & Kamilla answered them with enthusiasm & patience! DISREPUTABLE! BAIT AND SWITCH. We signed up for a 9am Auschwitz tour. It takes 60 to 90 minutes…read moreto go from Krakow to the camp. We were texted by this tour group, loyaltyComFort Tours, the night before saying the pick up would now be at 5 AM. When you try to call them as I did about 20 times no one answers. A driver contacts you via text to confirm your 5 AM pick up, but will not speak to you either. To get reserved tickets for Auschwitz it must be done many weeks if not months in advance. To get it closer to the date which we did about a week before, they don't tell you this, but they basically take you at the crack of dawn for you to wait in line to get your own ticket. The line forms around 5 AM and they don't sell tickets until 7:30. Then after waiting in line for another hour or so, when you finally get up to the ticket window, you get a timed entrance for much later in the day, so you're just hanging around with nothing to do. And yes, it's a guided tour of about 25 people but not by your tour company, but by an official tour guide at the camp. That is the only way they will let you tour Auschwitz. The camp does a really good job. It's really shameful that this is ComFort Tours modus operandi. I would recommend getting your tickets on the Auschwitz website itself or going through your hotel for someone reputable that won't pull this on you. Apparently several companies do this.

There are MANY, I mean MANY tours you can choose from in this city. And, even more people trying to hand out flyers and convince you that their tour is the best on for you. However, I highly recommend paying a visit to Cracow City Tours before making your final tour decision. The tours I have taken are the Auschwitz-Birkenau tour, the Wieliczka Salt Mine Tour and the Jewish Quarter Walking Tour.

Our excellent guide gave us a quick and efficient tour of the main points of interest and was clear and regular with the short breaks we had for souvenirs or toilets (or souvenir toilets!). Sebastien (his name) had a very nice manner and had a good sense of humour with a deadpan delivery (deadpan from telling the same joke twice a day I guess.but we enjoyed it). I hope to come back to Krakow and see more of this wonderful city and when I do I will look up these guys again!

Throughout both camps we had the same guide which was really good and you stayed with the same people. The kind of things you are witness too when visiting the camps is truly astonishing and it's something that I'm glad we did whilst in Poland. He stopped at several key locations of historical and cultural significance including the Schindler Fabrika, the Ghettos Hero Square, Old Synagogue and Church of St Mary (amongst several others). There was a narration and his own explanations of the significance of these places. He also added a "locals" knowledge that was both interesting and helpful. The tour(s) were more than three hours and worth every minute. Also, he bargained on price and worked with schedules. He answered our questions with patience and PERFECT ENGLISH!!!!
