This is one of the largest annual events in Sanford. Since it's inception (probably about 10 years…read moreago?) It seems to have grown bigger every year. This time around, the city decided to close down the second lane on SR 46 west bound just after airport Blvd. We were waiting in traffic just to park for close to 30 minutes without any movement. Finally we were able to pull off the main road, park in the Sunrail lot and walk the rest of the way (about 10min). This wasn't a big deal since we had Halloween calories to burn . I am not sure why the city decided to do this but when we got to the event, there was plenty of parking space in the main lot. With parking out of the way, the event is free so you just walk right on in, purchase tickets from one of several ticket booths then enjoy the rides and games. There are several large rides that are great for kids and adults but nothing compares to what Disney or Universal Studios is packing. There is plenty of seating but for a limited time. Once this place fills up people tend to hold tables and NEST for the remainder of the evening. There is a variety of food to choose from such as: Mexican, Philippino, and Latin American dishes along with standard American fair foods like pizza, corn dogs, funnel cakes, hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage and peppers, cheese steak, fried fish and chicken wings. This year, they had a great idea with the Beer Garden. They divided the line up so that at one tent you could only purchase Bud Light and at the other tent you could purchase all of your other drinks. Bud Light is King here since the Wayne Densch is within walking distance. This did help move the line along much more quickly than previous experiences. There are several craft style shops to explore that have great homemade jewlery, soaps, games, gift type items and clothing to choose from. There is a basket raffle with a lot of great prizes that can be won at the close of the event. There is also a large stage In front of the church with live music playing most of the day and evening. Tonight (11-2-19) Hayfire was the headliner and they are always on point. Tomorrow (11-3-19) The American Hotrods go on at 6:00pm. If you like some 80's Rock, you need to check them out. If you are in the area, definitely check out the Community Harvest Festival before the event ends Sunday (11-3-19 @ 8:00pm)

Who doesn't love a good county fair? I've been coming to this fair for the past 5 years it's not…read morethe biggest or the best I've ever been to but the Volusia County Fair Association does a pretty good job, there are lots, of youth activities and they award ribbons for just about anything you could think of from the best gingerbread house, photos, painting, jellies, jams and fried spam think of something and you'll probably find it here. There are pigs, sheep, steers, chickens, rabbits, tractors, model trains, steam engines, and local honey. The midway is filled with rides and food vendors some claiming to be serving fair food since 1938. If you like gyros, corn dogs, funnel cakes, french fries, steak on a stick or pork on a bun this is the place for you.

Staff is friendly and inviting. Parking: organized and FREE Admission: $10 for Adults; 8 if you purchase your tickets in advance at participating Walgreens. I heard that Walgreens stops selling the discounted tickets on the last weekend. Crowd/Ambiance: pleasant; lots of families and couples. The fair does NOT sell alcohol so the crowd was no drunken. Plenty of security. We had a nice time; I would return next year. I recommend.

Good food, family friendly atmosphere. Lots of beer... lol…read moreSuper nice crowd. Great deserts... Parking is a little high for this kind of event but the cometary lot is a low income cometary and the money helps them so whatever... They run out of the good stuff so get there early...

It was all nice but I personally would have liked to see more vendors and more activities. I was surprised to find there was plenty of free parking in area businesses and along the streets; it made that part of the fest all the better. We purchased a few cupcakes from Bluebird and unfortunately they were rather dry; you could tell they had been sitting out quite a while. I've heard rave reviews about Bluebird so I won't fault them entirely since they did have to bake ahead of time and store them at their outside booth. I love this time of year and Zombietoberfest was an enjoyable time out, doing something different. If you are big into Halloween and/or zombies, I would definitely recommend a visit next year.

I enjoyed the festive lights on the ball dropped, the music, the food and the t-shirt.read more

This is a once a year event. It takes place on New Years Eve…read more I had to list this on yelp... so others will hopefully partake in this awesome New Year's area tradition! THIS IS A MUST... forget the neighbourhood block party. Do this first, as the block party will still be going on when you come back! THIS IS A FREE EVENT! This is based on the NYC ball drop with a twist, they drop the ball at 9pm so you can be in bed by 10! This is put on by a bunch of local business owners and residents that have to work the following morning. Great music mix by IPOD, Great food, Great strangers... you couldn't ask for a better venue. Also there were the traditional fire works (shot out of a dumpster) and singing the New Year in! It is recommended that you bring as dish to share, Dogs, Burgers, water provided... BYOB&C (that's a chair folks) Plenty of parking. There was even a 50/50 raffle and you could buy a tee-shirt to commemorate the event. (I did, as no one back home is going to believe this!) Here's the print to the article that was in the paper You gotta love Lake County Posted: 28 Dec 2011 07:36 AM PST Here's an option for New Year's Eve that transcends the traditional Times Square dropping of the ball. It is a distinctly Lake County event. You have to love this place. This email comes from Douglas Koskey, one of the organizers of the Astatula "Blue Collar Ball Drop." "I am writing to you to announce a most unusual event that will be taking place in the little ole town of Astatula, Florida on New Years Eve. It is the "Blue Collar Ball Drop", a family friendly event that you and your friends are invited to attend. "Conceived by a group of Astatula locals, the people of this sleepy little Blue Collar burg wanted a New Year's celebration that folks could attend without disturbing the sleep patterns of hard-working types that had to report to work someplace the next day. So they pushed the clock forward three hours and celebrated their own ball drop at 9:00pm! "Three years ago, a ball made of dixie-cups and Christmas lights was attempted to be dropped from the Astatula City hall flag pole. The ball jammed at the top in the wind and at 9 pm, one local resident gave the extension cord a hard tug and the ball crashed to the ground. Last year, a ball was constructed of one of those plastic contraptions that expand and lock into a much bigger ball, then it was loaded with several strings of lights again. This time, it was hauled to the top of a rented scissor-lift in front of the Race Car Diner by a truck-winch and lowered at 9pm. This went much more smoothly, however the ball sagged under the weight of the lights and it looked more like a pear than a ball! "This year, ring-leader and Astatula Mayor Jake Farley has constructed a 7 foot diameter ball made of welded rods that rivals the infamous Times Square Ball. Loaded with hundreds of LED lights and a mirror ball inside the outer ball, this one will certainly hold it's shape and will be lowered from a crane that is ten stories tall! "You will be able to see it from the Howey bridge across Little Lake Harris" says brother Arlie. "Celebrations start at 6pm on New Years Eve. Hamburgers and Hot Dogs will be served and attendees are asked to bring a covered dish. Music will be provided all the way up to the countdown and other surprises are planned as well. Anyone interested in dropping in is welcome and this is a Family-Friendly event. For the all-nighter crowd, this could be your pre-party! "It is absolutely free, just drop on in for the "Blue Collar Ball Drop" located one mile south of the Astatula City Limits on County Road 561 at the field in between Farley's Frigeration and Petrotech."
