If I could give Ryan Vakulskas zero stars, I would. This is the first time I've ever bashed a…read morecompany online in my life, so that's saying something. I made the massive mistake of hiring his company to do some dirt work, lay some concrete, and remove and replace a retaining wall in my yard. It was a $12k estimate. Things started off fine, and demolition was accomplished in one day. Then when they poured the concrete, he claimed the concrete itself cured too quickly for them to properly finish it. They blamed Standard Concrete. Suits from this company came out and inspected the concrete and found nothing wrong with it, but Ryan said he wouldn't put his name on the work, and came out and tore up most of it without my permission. He ruined my entire backyard with his skid steer while doing it. His guys framed to repour, but then he quit working and kept asking for more money. I ended up paying the $12k estimate in full just to get him to come finish the job, but even that wasn't enough. He now wanted more money than that, and refused to complete any more work. He was awful to me and treated me horribly, and at one point even texted me "F*** you" among other things. I still have every text he sent me for proof. I finally refused to work with him anymore. I only got the retaining wall removed, my backyard destroyed, and maybe 100 foot of sidewalk done for $12k. I hired another company to complete the job because I couldn't stand the thought of seeing or talking to Ryan again. He's truly an awful person.

I highly recommend using House of Kitchens if you have a new build or you are remodeling. Until I…read morestarted working with them I didn't understand how important it is to have someone measure your space and plan out your design. At the beginning of my remodel, I joined a kitchen remodel facebook group and I saw a lot of unhappy customers because of poor spacing between the cabinets, countertops with bad seams and cabinets that weren't level. The FB group taught me these are common mistakes that happen when using big box stores and contractors who are not experienced in kitchen remodeling. My experience was nothing close to what I saw on Facebook. The customer service isn't only great for this type of business, it is exceptional by any standards for any industry. They communicated everything throughout the process and they offered great advice when my husband and I struggled making decisions. We would not have chosen the cabinets we have if we just walked in and made a decision on our own but once we got the sample home, it was a perfect match to our stove but also a perfect fit to our overall design and "vibe" of our kitchen. We also had a few special requests they have never done before but they made it happen and everything is beyond our expectations. I can't imagine what our kitchen would look like if we used anyone else.

I knew he did it and he finally admitted it and fixed it but not correctly. I also came home from a two week vacation to find water in my basement because my valve to my mainline was leaking. It takes a lot for me to complain, but this was absolutely a horrifying experience. !!!!!!

The lead time was two months because of a special order from Lowe's. Tod was informed that I have a very busy work schedule and that the work absolutely had to be completed before a certain date. (Tod eventually charged $1,347.05 for doing less work than promised; an increase of 38%). Tod would show up at very irregular intervals, often days later than first promised, with little or very poor excuses demonstrating exceptionally poor planning and unprofessionalism on his part. He very frequently puts his own interests and other clients before his previous appointments instead of living up to his scheduling promises. Once he worked starting on a Friday afternoon into the early evening, and once on a Saturday until 9 or 10 pm after having had literally months to plan a more normal and professional work performance and promising a normal workday for the work performance. He displayed very poor planning and communication skills. Even worse: Tod eventually stated that he could not install the a/c unit after all, months after being hired. I asked him if he could help install 18 small garden pavers. An associate of his and I myself did most of that work late on a cold Saturday night in the dusk as otherwise, it would not have been done. Tod charged an additional $372.05 cents for this small extra work, including double and triple charges for the same work, a fee for "delivery and usage" of his own wheelbarrow (!) and a $75 "service call for pickup and delivery of a/c unit to your home." The latter was a charge for me calling him to ask if I could meet him at a store 3 min. from my home to transport the unit and him only being a few minutes away, -not at all mentioning any additional charge-, and getting help lifting the unit on either end. At one point, Tod sent 40 unsolicited text messages with pictures to my husband! This was very inconvenient and bizarre. At the same time, Tod did not communicate with me, the wife, about the same job. This came across as Tod attempting to curry favor with the husband against the wife; not cool. Tod is a sweet-talker with a pleasant voice, but with him bailing on an otherwise promised job at a very late stage and attempting to charge no less than 38% more for doing less work than contracted to do, I recommend that you stay far away from this person and company. Tod does not appear to have the construction skills that he clams to have. He may be a nice person privately, but does not appear to be forthright as a professional.
