Do you believe in Miracles?…read more One of my favorite stops in Chihuahua is "La Casa de los Milagros" or "The House of Miracles". It has the perfect mix of history, romance and bohemian atmosphere. The house is a beautiful blue colonial hacienda style home right behind the Cathedral, ironically on a street known for it's ladies of the night. The story of the house is that it was a favorite stop of Pancho Villa, who would often stay the night along with his many "companions" one of which caught the eye of the man of the house. He decided to leave his wife and travel with Villa and his ladies. The wife, diligently kept up hope that St. Jude would grant her a miracle and bring her husband back home to her. Which after some time he did return for good. There are several large rooms with great colors and large canvas paintings of colonial era religious art adorning the walls. The ceilings are high with log trusses on the roof, the lighting is dim at night but bright from the many windows and open air hacienda patio in the center during the day. In that patio you will find a troubadour singing many nights with just his voice and guitar filling the air. The food is mostly cafe style, I normally settle for some tapas and the cheese plate. You can order coffee with cream, sugar and tequila or brandy if you like. Or if you would like skip the coffee all together and just get the good stuff. Overall, it's the quiet relaxed atmosphere, sense of history and lovely music that keeps me coming back. Sit down, order a coffee with piquete, and hopefully gaze into the a pair of gorgeous eyes on the other side of the table. Magical.

I won't return to this restaurant ~…read more Had my third meal of the past few days here. Tipped the server 200 pesos for a 492.00 check Noticed on my receipt, the selected transaction currency, (which was not given to me as an option... ) I said I wanted to pay in pesos... And see that the restaurant has defaulted to US currency with a 6 1/2% markup Deceptive, annoying ... shortsighted on the part of management I'll never come back here to dine - Never

I loved my drink, Sex on Creel and had 2 shots of sotol piña colada, which were awesome! Super smooth. The burger con chile pasado was pretty yummy but the fries were not cooked right. Oil must not have been hot enough because they were soft. My mom ordered the t bone steak. .. do yourself a favor a do not order this. It was flavorless and super tough. The chile pasado on the side was delicious, the mushrooms were the canned kind. Overall cool spot, the drinks were great but stay away from the steak. Next time I'll just order drinks and botanas (appetizers)

Dinner with a view…read more One of the impressive new additions to Chihuahua's new downtown district is El Meson de la Catedral (The Cathedral's Kitchen). The biggest draw here is the magnificent view of the Chihuahua's cathedral and the Plaza de Armas. Your visit will have to include a selfie with this backdrop. As such most of the patio is usually full while the interior dining room is sparse. Make a reservation in advance for the patio if you have a large group. The food is generally good, but the main dishes are the winners, while the sides are a after thought. My favorite dishes were the Filete Mar y Tierra, which includes a flank steak and a few shrimp with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. The steak, shrimp and wine sauce was on point, but the veggies were without flavor and the potatoes salty. The Arrachera for four, was much more on point, juicy meat morsels with toasted and peeled chiles and sliced avocado. Pair them with homemade tortillas and you are in heaven. We also had the cold cuts and cheese plate. It caned with sliced asadero, jamón iberico, melon balls, olives, mini tomatoes and sliced strawberries. I wasn't sure the combination would work, but the combination of sweet and savory did the trick. The few drinks we enjoyed were the sangria, and a few mixed drinks. To be honest they were pretty tame. Then again we were next door to the cathedral. Pious nightcap
